SO after a battle of trying for nearly a year, I finally persuaded a GP to put me on the combined pill. I've been given microgynon 30 as a start-off pill, but I've heard a few negative things about it. (I'm not using it for JUST my acne though, I want to sort out my hormones aswell). But some people say they've broken out when using it which I'm sort of worried about now, although it does help some with their acne too. So, if my acne is light to mild but my skin is very very oily, do you think it will have any effect on it? Also, I'm taking tetralysal 30 lymecycline at the same time, which I've heard antibiotics affect the effectiveness of the pill. Would taking both of these be a good idea? Tell me about your personal experiences and recommendations thank you!!!

Microgynon is one of the safest pills out there, very little physical side effects. How you mentally react depends on the person. I tried many pills before getting on Microgynon 20 and then after a year on Microgynon 30. Finally a pill without headaches, moodiness,... Libido did lower though. I read it can make your acne worse because it is androgenic. My skin didn't react badly to it. Acne stayed the same, and I took that pill for 2 years I think. Now that I stopped using the pil all together my skin is terrible though, combination of stress, ocm tryout and crazy hormones. Only pill that ever improved my skin was Diane 35.

If you take antibiotics you can't use the pill as an anticonceptive. It is in the information included how long you have to use extra protection. Just always read the information with your meds :P

yeah ive heard about how good diane 35 is, but i asked about it and my gp said my acne is not nearly bad enough to put me on that hmm.

and ahhh gotcha, yeah i was never intending on using it as a contraceptive anyway so im not too worried about that, it was mainly for the hormones/irregular periods/acne/pms. would the antibiotics affect the help of those at all or is it just the contraceptive aspect of the pill that it can affect? and ive also read it claims to help hair and oily skin also, is that true or? sorry for bombarding you with questions haha :)

True that. It isn't advised to use Diane 35 for years, so after I had to quit my acne came back (took a long time though). While on Microgynon my skin was drier than usual, but I have dry skin from the start, so I'm not sure if it isnt just the last oiliness of puberty wearing off. My hair didn't change in neither quantity or quality xP

As for the antibiotics... I only have experience with antibiotics for actual diseases, not for acne treatment. Tetracycline and amoxicilline are both antibiotics that could interfere with the birth control aspect, but I at least didn't experience amoxicilline having a bad effect on my acne even with several treatments a year, although I doubt this is useful information for you since I've never take antibiotics for more than a month a time.

tbh id rather have dry skin than oily skin as long as the dry skin doesnt cause the oiliness yknow? so far lymecycline hasnt had any effect on my acne at all, in fact has possibly just made it worse but gotta stick it out sigh. and yeah, being gay i probably dont need to worry about any ineffectiveness of the birth control aspect so thats the least of my worries with this haha :D so im kind of anxious yet admittedly looking forward to seeing the results of microgynon 30, should be interesting seeing as my skin is completely unpredictable ughhhh.thank you very much for your help! :)

Popping back in here... my acne got inflamed over summer and I actually visited a dermatologist. She advised to take a light antibiotics treatment. So for 40 days or something I took 500mg tetracycline once a day. My skin at first cleared up a lot, to a level that I hadn't seen since I quit Diane 35 birth control. At the end of the treatment (mid September) my skin was a bit worse again, but the inflammation was gone and still is, so I'd say that it did what it was supposed to despite taking Mycrogynon 30 at the same time :P I do hate that monthly breakout in my stopweek. Since September I only get a pimple or two every week, but during my stopweek I get a lot more. So all in all for the rest of the month it's that one or two pimples a week + the remains of the ones that came in my stopweek. So even if your birthcontrol helps, it could still be the same result in the end because in your stopweek things take a dramatic turn t.t
