I'm a 34 year old woman who has had mild to moderate acne for almost 20 years. I've tried lots of things with varied success. The best year of my life, acne wise, was the year I was on doxycycline full time.
Anyway, I have really had it with the acne and ESPECIALLY my super oily skin. It's gross. It's not just my face, so something topical isn't in the cards. It's my scalp, my back, my chest. So oily, it's uncomfortable. In the morning, I smell like greasy hair, and there is no way I could ever not shampoo every morning.
I know Accutane is the gold standard for reducing oil output, but I'd rather not go through the side effects. Plus, since my acne is mild/moderate, I doubt an MD would prescribe it (most in our area simply won't prescribe it, period.) My thoughts for medications that could reduce my oily skin are either birth control tablets (which I've never taken), or Aldactone. Do you know of any other medication that could make me less oily? What is your experience? Thank you!
Spiro at 100mg keeps me from getting oily. It's the only thing that has helped my mild/moderate adult hormonal acne. BTW..Struggled my whole life with some sort of acne and tried anything and everything including accutane (3 times in 10 years). Spiro's side affects are not too severe for me as well. Just a bit of dizziness if I stand up too quickly.
