Isotrex Gel - Experiences?

Hi,

I had Isotretinoin last year, finishing in June which although got rid of my acne then, I sooner relapsed later October but my acne has never been as bad. I was then given Differin 0.1% for which actually made my acne worse although still no where near as bad prior to Isotretinoin.

I went to the doctors yesterday with my hospital discharge letter, stating that my next move is to take Isotrex gel ( Isotretinoin gel? ), if that failed then a 6 month system of antibiotics, and should that fail a second course of Isotretinoin.

Does anyone have any experience with Isotrex gel? I'm assuming like most creams and Retin A, it'll get worse for a few weeks before getting better and will take a few months to see any results good or bad?

Thanks :)

Hey
I have used isotrex before and am in my second week of using it for a second time. It worked for me before so hoping for similar results. The key is perseverance because it is uncomfortable to use at first (dry, scaly, red skin). Give it a few months though - I hope it works for you!

When you used it before how long did it take to work for you and how was your initial breakout?

I can't be exact as it was a few years ago, but I don't recall it taking a really long time. I would say a couple of months. I didn't seem to have the initial break out as most describe (and hope I haven't just jinxed myself!) to me it just felt like no improvement for a few weeks.

Also, something I wanted to add was hyper- pigmentation. I got this in my forehead - brown marks on either side of my forehead that came out when I was on a beach holiday in 30degree temperatures. I think this is a rare side effect to isotrex and is triggered by sunlight. I now make sure I wear factor 50 on my forehead during the summer months.

I'm currently using Isotrex gel but finding that it's drying my skin out horribly :/ it's also making me break out in little white heads that I've never had before... Have you tried the anti biotic called Lymecycline? That's what I use currently along side the isotrex and I'm finding it a great help! (I've been on it for 8 months now)... x

How long have you been on isotrex? What was your skin like before it?   I've been on that antibiotic twice  with no luck at all. Looking into the birth control pill now

I've been using it on and off for 8 months but it dries my skin out way too much for every day use so I just put it on overnight when I have a bad breakout. I also went onto birth control pill around 2 months ago, wouldn't say I've noticed any change in my skin though to be honest... That's a shame that the Lymecycline didn't help you :( that's only thing that has helped me and even still, my skin isn't completely cleared up .. The struggle hey :(
