Okay, so basically I have been plagued with acne since I was 13 years old. I had two very successful courses of accutane but recently my skin has started to deteriorate rapidly and i've been getting quite serious breakouts. I'm currently 18 years old so it's a very big age socially, so my confidence plummeted drastically. Anyway, I went to my derm and she prescribed erythromycin tablets. This was on a Thursday and I had to wait until the next Tuesday until I could pick the tablets up. I was feeling so depressed about my skin that I done something incredibly stupid. I had some accutane (20mg) tablets left, and for 4 days, I took 20mg a day. My skin is now very very dry and my spots are drying out and coming to the surface. I stopped the accutane two days ago and I started having 4 tablets (2 in the morning and 2 in the evening) of erythromycin a day. I'm really worried and depressed because not only has nothing improved with my skin, it is now dry and red.
Please please will somebody give me some good news about erythromycin and hopefully give me some advice!
Any help would be so much appreciated.
I feel where you are coming from. I am very conscious of my moderate to severe acne. It can have a huge impact on confidence and self esteem. For erythromycin, I do know it is an antibiotic used to treat acne. I took Doxy. While on Doxy I showed some improvement. Drink TONS of water. It sometimes hurt my stomach. I found for myself when taking an antibiotic it can definitely help if you have had some food before you take it. My acne is very red and sometimes pretty dry. For the redness I got some skin color tinted sunscreen that helps for the short term. Not an ideal solution but it works for now. For the drying I either use Waxelane or cetaphil. Both have helped with the drying. They can make your face look a little oily though. It will just take time. You will get there. Im just starting the process of talking to my derm about accutane to take care of my persistent acne. So any advice on that would be helpful...
Don't worry. It just takes time.... Hopefully both of us are clear soon.
Cheers.
