I've been on Accutane for 20 days and I was on a dosage of 20mg/day. I just did a blood test today. The ALT and AST levels turn out to be around two times higher than the upper normal limit. The dermatologist told me to stop taking Accutane. But I am still concerned. Are those elevations reversible? Also, I am also applying Differin once at night, should I stop that too?

Yes, the liver will go back to normal and can also repair itself if it needs to.

If your numbers were elevated, you do need to stop taking it, as it is putting a huge strain on your liver and you could get permanent damage if you continued it.

I guess you can go to your regular doctor to find out why they were so elevated. Are you on other medications that are processed thru the liver? Do you take Tylenol very often or medications that contain it? That can strain your liver as well.

Also, alcohol is also hard on the liver.

You should probably find out about your liver, regardless of your decision to get off the Accutane. Somethings going on.....and you NEED your liver.
