derp: stay strong man! i have been experiencing some more breakouts than im use two as well..but like you said a couple posts ago we just need to say F**k it for the next 5-6 months...things will get better if we can just be patient and trust in the proccess

Kimber: where did you say you got that Dr.Dans stuff? the aquaphor is not performing as well as I hoped and id like to give something else a try

#14..wow two weeks..its kind of flown by

-anyways dry skin and lips are really the only side-effect ive experienced so far

-i feel like this stuff kind of messes with your head in terms of being hyper-vigilant about my body...every litte ache, sore, or upset stomach I automatically assume its because of the accutane..when in reality it could be due to a number of things

-ready to tackle the next two weeks

Hope everyone had a good weekend

I didnt start getting really noticeably dry lips until midway through week 2..I was only putting on Chapstick maybe twice a day..then around day 9 or 10 I started to need a coat of aquaphor every two hours

Hi everyone,

Sorry to jump into this group a little late on, but I too have just started the treatment (we call it Roaccutane here in the UK). Was thinking it could be helpful to know experiences of others going through it as well!

I'm on day 5 now, and have already noticed a few side effects. My face has actually become red, as if i'm slightly sunburnt. My skin/lips have become pretty dry but vaseline & moisturiser are working. I was encouraged to use moisturiser and my dermatologist even gave some away with me. No improvement of my skin (as expected), but like others have said, i'm starting to get an increased number of small whiteheads. I'm currently on 30mg tablets, not really expecting any improvement of my skin until I go up to 60mg in 4 weeks time.

I always monitor my diet so have taken a few steps to increase the levels of fat I eat. Anything to help get rid of my annoying acne!

Hey Mark, good to meet you

yeah red-face unfortunately is a common side effect of the drug. I seem to get it every now and then.

whatever you do make sure you do not go out in the sun for a long period of time!..your skin is very sensitive on this stuff and the sun will make the redness 10x worse. I went out in the sun for maybe an hour last weekend and my face was burnt and red for like 3 days

whats the process like to get roaccutane in the UK? cause its pretty intense over here

Hey all sorry I've been MIA over the weekend. Derpface thanks for letting us all crash your thread! Maybe we should call it "Accutane class of 2015 lounge." That's what I call it in my head :D

On Dr. Dan's: I've also heard this is the best for Accutane patients and I'm planning on getting some. They have it at my local CVS. The miraculous pharmacy that overnight air mailed my tane to me included a miniature pot of Vaseline that I've been using a lot and my lips are normal. They were a little chapped before I even started because winter has descended rather violently on my corner of the Great Lakes.

My status: just a little peeling in places where my skin is healing from old blemishes. It makes me happy to see something happening, but I predict that soon I'll be begging for mercy and moisture. I have only gotten one new pimple since starting the drugs, and it progressed quickly (~12 hours) from inflamed spot to whitehead to flat red mark. I don't really believe the hype about the IB. I have heard it occurs in a minority of patients rather than most. Also, the ones with the IBs are more likely to post in an acne forum than the ones that are just getting better straight away. If you dig around there are lots of reports of Accutane courses w/o IB. As y'all were saying before, it could be a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing. Believe in the IB and it will getcha!

On my diet: I have been letting go a little! Or a lot... I know I shouldn't but the cold weather means me and my roommates are baking more, and I just can't resist. I have been good for so long...

If all goes well with my end-of-the-semester pre-Thanksgiving work tomorrow, I will post photos of my skin!

I hope u are right about the ib happening to a minority of people

I've only experienced small breakouts so far and they go away very quickly

Could be tame or that I stopped retin-a and bp

my derm said I could continue to use ewtin-a and spot with bp

dr only deter patients from using these opicals while on tane because of the potential to have extreme dryness

I thought might try retin-a every 2 night

lets just saw I realized quickly this wouldnt workout..lol

Im in northern nj and we have snow coming wed..noooooooo....s

I've been on multiple antibiotics prescribed by my doctor for years now, none of them really helped a lot. FINALLY I was referred to the dermatologist and within the week I was on it. Think its more complicated for girls.

Its pretty much standard over here to start at half dosage to see how it effects you before going onto the full dosage. Have to go for another blood test really soon to make sure its ok to continue.

The sun sensitivity makes me happy i'm starting it in the winter, would so suck in the summer!

Ham: good to hear from you..I was wondering if you were still with us

I like that proposed group name **accutane class of 2015**

I know exactly where your coming from as far as baked goods..my roommate made a fresh apple pie and I had like three slices with ice cream...whoooops

Kim: I called my pharmacy and put in a order for some dr.dans and should have it in the next couple days..thanks for the suggestion

Mark: okay yeah that's similar to how it goes over here..and no kidding about not having to go through this over the summer..that would be a bummer

Kim: oh no! You traveling for turkey day? We are in the middle of a big snowstorm now! I actually love snow, even when I have to ride my bike in it like tonight (my only mode of transportation). I hate that it causes car accidents and makes it hard to travel, but I love almost everything else about it.

Mark, I'm sorry that you can't relate to this, but who's pumped about Thanksgiving?! I will feel a little less guilty this year digging in with tane on my side. I love Thanksgiving. Mmmm.

Have you tried just pure Vaseline/petroleum jelly? It is non-comedogenic and it works for me. I even use it on my face at night when my skin is super dry.

Welcome back ham. Unfortunately I can personally attest to an IB in less then five days in. Nothing outrageous but my face is worse now then it has been in years....and it's a different kind of acne then I've ever gotten before.I just picked up aquaphor? isn't that the go to move?

Yeah I kinda take that an initial breakout is just like any side effect of accutane...like joint pain some people will get it while some don't.. And people will expierence it to different degrees

-I've been using aquaphor and I'd say it works pretty well

Sorry about your breakout derpface. It's one of the last though!

I think Aquaphor is made with petroleum jelly and has a bunch of other stuff in it too.

Derpface, on day 6 my skin has become worse too. I have a few large & angry spots as well as a whitehead breakout on my upper lip (literally the worst place to have a breakout).

The good news is my semester has finished so I can just hide away. Also, i'm broke right now, so at least bad skin will make me not go out and spend money ha!
