Hey guys, really great post!
I started using Accutane 13 days ago and so far so good.
I'm 25 and weigh 72kg. I have started on 20mg p/d and will be up to 40mg on day 15 and then up to 60mg two weeks after that.
I'm using a few supplements aswell, some of which I was using before and some that I am using to try and combat the accutane side effects. I'm taking 100mg of Vit C, 15mg Zinc, a complex Vit B supplement, 300mg fish oil, 400mg glucosamine, 800mg Calcium and some Vit D.
Lips have been drying out a little but I have been using plenty of lip balm. I've noticed puting loads on just before bed really helps out the next day. Occasionally I will forget to do it and my lips are a mess as a result.
I've also stuck with BP for the first two weeks aswell. A small amount morning and night. I haven't noticed any problems with this yet. I haven't had a initial breakout yet but I do intend of dropping the BP use down to once a day for the next two weeks and then stop all together by the time im onto 60mg. But ultimately I'll let me skin tell me when to stop.
Finally I have been drinking loads of water. Like 6-8 litres a day. Pretty much just trying to keep drinking water as much as I can. This was a tactic I used before accutane to help control my breakouts and it's something I feel is keeping my skin under control now. Also I have cut out all the crap from my diet. No chocolate, cake, fizzy drinks, beer ect.
Anyway, as I said before, so far so good and I'm pretty happy that I haven't had a IB. Keep up the great posts guys, really good to read your experiences!
Did u say no liquor?
U would have to pry that out of my dead cold hands..I need a drink now and again to get through this..LOL
Im just kidden I had a cocktail or 2 round the holidays but didnt notice a difference
I tolerate BP pretty well and have used it since starting tane (10 weeks)
pretty much as a spot treatment
but i notice now that im on 50-60 mg that I get red if I use it too often/too much
GL on your journey!!

Hey mary
No, left eye isnt too bad but the right is bright red, upper eyelid is swollen and buckets gunk coming out
I am freaking out
Being paranoid that they are going to make me get off tane and these last damn 3 mnths were for nothing
I did have a very nice lady from the boards message me who was familair with my situation
same thing happened to get 1 mnth inot tane and she decided to stop meds
she spoke with other people in the same boat and they continued tane and for the most part eye issues completely resolved themselves after the course
I dont want to screw up my eyes/eyesight
Ill feel better if I can see another eye Dr tomorrow
please say a NO snow prayer for me:)
For now Im using warm compress and no makeup at all
God, this better all be worth it
My skin is tight, red and lots of flat red marks
Hope everyone else is doing well
kim
Kim: I hope it will get better! I am not in the best mood about Tane today, but I wish you don't have to get off of it and that you can finish your course! For the last week, I have been getting at least one new every day, small, not very inflamed, but still.. It really pisses me off. I have finished month 3 today and I was expecting to have a better skin by now. Now my right cheek, which had been almost acne free my whole life is covered with 6-7 red marks, as my left cheek and my forehead, and my chin/jawline. I am starting to wonder if it's really worth it, I mean, I had persistent acne, but never has it covered my whole face like now. I just want to know when it will stop!!! And will all those red marks fade away? Argh, I'm sorry folk, I don't want to be negative, but I just need to vent. I've been patient until now, but since I am starting month 4 tomorrow, I feel a rush to get better...
Okay, it's hard, but we must not give up and pray for better days.
Here we don't get much snow this winter, but it's something around -25 every single day. I would prefer snow!
Thank you for your support guys!
Yup things are pretty crappy for me too! While I have not developed any new zits in maybe two weeks which is amazing, I've notice one of my cheeks is slowly expanding in discoloration...it's like a brown scaly patch that is slowly covering my whole cheek! Anybody else have anything like this? Im asking the derm when I go in a couple days.
Also my red marks aint healing for shit...blotchy everywhere!!
Hey derp/mary
well I am relieved to say my skin doest look so bad except flat red marks and my skin drier than ever and red (no flakes and no brown patched..sorry derp!..hope derm can shed some light)
My forehead mess is clearing up....and i feel like just now as I can see a glimmer of hope with my skin (afraid to say that out loud) my eyes are a hot mess
the warm compresses helped, and when I woke up this am they arent glued together..win!
Im feeling like u Mary though about all the breakouts and red marks..which are worse than before tane/and worse than expected
I dont wnat to stop tane, but i dont want to regret it...
Sorry Mary u are having a rough one
feel free to come here and vent...we all need a place to do that on tane...because no one else really understand
GL everyone
Hope its a good day for all!
delayed opening for kids
going to try and call eye dr in a bit
U have the best attitude derp!!
Chin up
I believe it will work...really do
just getting there
think we were hoping to be in a better place by this mnth..so that was a tad discouraging
I want to be done with tane but the thought of having to end it early scares me
bough ha pills
lubricate your skin and joints from the inside
going to try everything
Hey everyone!
Were all not to happy for now hahaha. I only know that yesterday i just couldnt take it anymore and i popped some shit. Although i dont have any active or new pimples for now, my face is covered in scars and my chin and cheeks are horrible.
Kim.. I hope your eyes get better, idk, theyre just a really sensitive part of our body. Hope it goes away soon.
Derp.. I admire your attitude. Btw y'all with big doses and will see results before i do... So please, eveb if you guys get clear skin before i do.. Dont leave me alone *sobs*
Its day 74 i think, and i thought i would be waaaay better by now. Did i mention that my hyperpigmentation marks never go away? Well yeah, theyll always be there to haunt me. I hate this shit. But its the only way to go.
I Believe that i will start seeing results by the 4th or 5 th month... Just being realistic , cuz my dose is small.
Thanks en1gma
and dont worry not going anywhere
we started together...end this thing together
Im so hoping the other folks we havent heard from in a bit are doing well
So glad for this group to know im not alone and even though my bonehead dr said I shouldn't be breaking out by 2 mnth mark..duh
I know from thus group it is normal
or would have felt like a real odd ball!!
Sorry about the picking and spots
im really fair and scar easily
healing takes months...feel your pain
hoping after tane when my skin can tolerate it..to try ipl.or hydro to lighten scars
Im pretty bummed about my eyes
the dry skin.achy knees and scaly hands are one thing
hoping eye dr gives me some good news tomorrow
Hang in there

Hey guys, Sorry for just vanishing completely... Had this really down period around christmas, and had to stop reading anything about Accutane, and then when I got back from the Holidays (adult staying with parents for 10 days, while on this drug and not beeing able to have lots of wine- it had to be a complete disaster....) I started reading your posts in this tread again - in silence. My last serious pimple was mid-December I think, so not that much to add apart from the periodic depressive mood and some strange results on my blood work. I believe you've all had some serious IBs, but hang in there and it will get better eventually. I'm trying to remember how self-conscious I as before the tane, thinking that all people ever noticed about me was my skin, but that was not the case, and I'm sure it's the same now.
My skin texture hasn't improved that mouch though. I'm having days where I think my large pores is all people can see.. .
Hope this week will be THE week, where everything changes for you all!
Quick question, I've moved onto 40mg yesterday which for me consists of two 20mg pills. Do you think it's better to take two together at once or spread them out over the day. E.g. One in the morning and one at night?
Keep up the positive attitude! 6 months is nothing compared to the rest of your life with great skin!!

My experience is that it really doesn't matter, and that's my doctors answer as well. I'm taking 60 mg, and sometimes I split the dosage and other times I have it all at once. Depending on the food I eat that day, and when I work out. The most important thing is to remember to take them with food. My doctor said I should take them when I eat "a heavy meal, preferably with some fat", and not just having a fat free yoghurt. But some people get more side effects when they take all at once, like muscle pain or a red face.

I did a little digging and i think they rec split in 2 doses
I would do that...feel side effects are also less when dose spread out (could just be me)

Did you get to speak with a new eye doc today? I'm only using my glasses for the moment, apart from when working out. Tried doing that with out my contact lenses, but ended up not seeing the instructor - not a wise thing to do
The crappy mood might not be because of the tane though. It's winter, I live in a city where it rains 260 days a year (Not from this part of the country so not used to this), and a lot of stress not only during the holidays..., but it helped to stop worrying about the tane.
My lips are so dry it hurts, my hair is so dry it looks like it's about to look like sheeps wool any second, eczhema on my hands (again; cold and wet rainy/snowy weather doesn't help), but skin has not peeled significantly thanks to good products. Just wish I could find something for the lips.. . Using 100% shea butter from Loccitane now, under the vaselin.
I have 11 days to go until my 3 month mark, and then I've taken ca 6000 mg. Supposed to take somewhere between 8500-10 000 mg before I finish. I'm on 60 mg a day.
The red marks from my IB on my chin stayes just as read as it was almost 3 months ago. Love it!
I all here update:

I use 3-4x a day
If not using just blistex in the blue tub..every hour..
Have u considered a humidifier in your bedroom?
help forced heat/air drying u out
As far as your skin smoothing out..I think that will happen any da.
My skin for about 2 mnths was a pore filled bumpy mess..I would say maybe in the last week or so its really started to smooth out
Hang in there!
