Hello I'm 24 year old girl and have battled body and facial acne since I was 10-11 years old (never had clear skin!).
Now I've finally caved into the idea of taking Accutane after many many years of resisting as my acne is aggressive enough to last for the rest of my life.
I'm honestly afraid though. I'm going on 80mg I believe for the next six months according to my dermatologist. What's going to happen to me? What should I expect?? Will it really be that bad
I was on 60mg. I know quite a few ladies that were on 80mg and handled it really well. Main issues u will encounter is dry lips and skin and hair. Your body stops producing oil, so it's important to help restore oils by using lip balms, My favorite was bag balm. For my hair I only washes one or maybe two times a week. With no oils you don't need to wash often. When I did wash I always used a deep condition product. Make sure to moisturizer your face and body, I used ceraVe moisturizing cream in the tub. Do no use any lotions these will not be effective. For body I used Vaseline intensive care.
I also took biotin for my hair to help keep it strong. Fish oils to help my joint pains that Accutane brought. Heating pads for lower back pain that Accutane brought on.
I wouldn't be scared. Just listen to your body!

Thank you so much for the reply!
Oh I love Vaseline lotion. My legs and feet are naturally extremely dry and it's the only thing that moisturizers my skin. Perhaps I could use it on my face as well during treatment? I currently use the cocoa butter Vaseline formulation as my body lotion. I don't find it clogs pores or gives me black heads ect.
With accutane I'm not too freaked out over dryness more so the big scary side effects (I know they're rare) that I'm hoping I don't encounter.

Personally I would be scared to use something scented on my face. Since it is not just cocoa butter, I would be worried it would cause me new acne. If you've had success with it before though, do for it. Although I do think you'll be better off with a cream instead of a lotion of your face. I hear you about the big scary side effects. Something you need to keep an eye on for sure, and if something comes up make sure to speak to your doctors about it. Don't push the medicine if your getting bad side effects. That's my two cents 🙂
