Hey all,
So I have been on accutane for a week now at 40 mg, I took accutane about 7 years ago when I was in younger and it did wonders for my skin.
I don't however remember how my body reacted initially to it which is what I'm hoping some of you can help me with
My derm put me back on accutane because i was starting to get cystic acne again and antibiotics weren't working. Now that i have been on it for a week my lips are begining to get dry ( I know this is normal)
However what i am noticing is that i am getting alot of new cystic acne on my back, in places I haven't had it before, I am also noticing that that most of the acne on my back where it used to be is becoming inflamed and red, and quite painful again.
Im wondering if this is something that normally happens, some of the cysts seem to have tiny white heads on it and pop on there own causing my shirts to be bloody when i take them off. ( I remember this happening alot when i was younger)
As for my face i get a few white heads here and there but ive been using aczone which helps greatly. My main problem area however is my back.
When i was younger my body didnt respond well to a high dose of accutane, Im not sure if 40 mg is high dose but im 22 now and weigh 175. I will be going back to my Derm in a couple of weeks so im sure we will discuss the dosage.
If anyone can weigh in on the cystic acne forming on my back that would be greatly appreciated, like i said i dont not remember much about the course of accutane, just that it worked great!
Hi baseball8star,
I'm on my first week of accutane as well, but only on a very low dosage. My dermatologist did tell me that there would be an initial break out and that I should expect to experience new cysts and white heads from the end of the first week onwards, and then that things would settle after a month or two and get better quite quickly from there.
I suspect that you are experiencing the initial breakout.
My doctor put me on a 400mg dose of Erythromycin twice daily to help counter the initial breakout. It might be worth talking to your dermatologist or even your GP about doing a short course for a few weeks. Your doctors will know how to approach it best as they have your medical history.
Best of luck.
