200mg is really high. I doubt any doctor would prescribe that high of a dose for acne. Even for a PCOS patient it's the maximum dose.

I am glad it is working for you but you ramped up to 200mg prematurely (2 weeks to ramp up is super early), and although you may not be experiencing side symptoms, I really really REALLY recommend you take your dose down. The absolute maximum prescribed for acne is 150mg and even that is rare. 100mg is usually considered the normal maximum dose.

Hyperkalemia is a real thing and it can be fatal. At 200mg you're playing with fire.

Otherwise, good luck!

I realize you aren't in the US but is anyone aware of the typical cost of spiro? I know it's going to depend on the kind of coverage you have through your insurance but ball park anyone? $5-$20? 30-$60? $70-$120-ish? Thanks! ALSO, WOW, your skin looks absolutely fantastic!!

So I'll be starting spiro soon- Any suggestions? My derma is starting me off at 50 mg 2 times a day. I'm worried about weight gain- I've already gained weight this year due to a very stressful job, is this a common side effect? (I'm 5'5 and 155)

There are some people who report weight gain, but I think the vast majority don't experience any weight effects. In fact, because it's a diuretic it you might actually lose a little (but it will be water weight).

I gained 10 pounds on 100mg dosage. Sure I lost weight at first, but after being on spiro for a while (a year and a half for me) my water weight went back to normal. However I don't get acne anymore, maybe a pimple or two every couple months.

The problem isn't so much that I was gaining weight, that seemed normal enough for me at my age, but that I couldn't lose weight. I changed my diet, started working out 5xs a week and yet still felt bloated in my stomach and bottom and fat percentage held steady.

Little discouraged at the whole situation :/

Hey Jojo5482,

How long were you on the 100mg of Spiro for?

I just started a where I describe what happened to me over the course of 8 months on Spiro. I gained 25lbs that I have not been able to lose no matter how much I exercise or how well I eat.

Have you been able to lose the weight? How long has it been since you stopped Spiro?
