So my acne came back ( big surprise there) and I'm sick of the emotional ups and downs. Should I go on Accutane? My mom is screaming at me not to because it can cause diabetes. So yeah that sucks. Don't want to trade acne for diabetes, really. :S So any alternatives to Accutane? I'm taking organic chlorella and had a slight remission in acne but didn't last anymore than maybe close to a month ( longest it's happened though, best almost month I ever had lol). I have a perfect diet and foods no longer seem to be correlated to it anymore.
I'm sick of having it I've had it forever. So too risky? So many people here on the forums seem to be on it, though. But it still doesn't make it safe right? Acne bothers me so much that it's affecting my productivity for my career, but if I take Accutane it also might make me tired so it's a double-edged sword. I don't know what to do.
I've never heard of accutane causing diabetes, but it can cause quite a few other side effects. Accutane gave me hair loss, sore joints, dry eyes, dry skin, dry lips, slight depression, and impaired my wound healing. Thankfully most of those side effects went away for me, but I still heal poorly compared to before. I scar much more easily now.
What else have you tried for your acne?
I would avoid accutane. Many people here are on accutane, because people from all around the world who get accutane come here to talk about it. I consider the side effects to be too risky for the benefits it has a chance of delivering.
There are other options out there. They might not work, but then accutane might not work either. I would start with diet changes. If it's as simple as not eating citrus, you'll save yourself a lot of trouble down the road.

Just curious, what issues have you had with citrus?
Thanks for the responses. There's not a single food that causes my issues except dairy and I don't even eat it. I've eliminated a lot of foods for sooo long to see with no results....i am getting depressed cuz my diet's boring. @ CWR24 it lists it can raise blood sugar and that's pretty weird. My acne is not severe but is moderate and is extremely physically painful because it burns and is bright red. It's really weird acne. and the blackheads from hell. Quetzl did you take Accutane?

It can raise blood-sugar, but that is a very FAR cry from diabetes. In any case, that side-effect is rare, and temporary. I have read some pretty far-our horror stories from people who took accutane, and not one of them mentioned diabetes on the list of things they thought was caused by accutane. Unless you already have diabetes or some form of insulin resistance or sensitivity, that shouldn't be the main reason to not take accutane. Also, I've been on absorica (another brand of accutane) for over a month, and I haven't had any issues with fatigue.
On another note, if you haven't tried any other prescription care for your acne, I would at least try that first (i.e. topicals, retinoids, antibiotics, etc.). If you have cut out alot of things from your diet for a long time and you haven't seen any difference, then stop - it probably isn't necessary and may be causing more harm than good (malnutrition can cause acne too!).
I would try accutane. I am on a second course but that is just apart of life. My current derm says I wasnt prescribed the correct dosage during my first course. But accutane did clear my skin up tremendously, Seriously. Check out my pics in my gallery and see for yourself. And to the whole diet thing, when it comes to acne, you might as well through it out of the window because when I took accutane during my first course, I was healthy. Even before when I was on accutane and had horrible acne, I was healthy. I was on the track team and soccer team and my diet was consistent and healthy. I can say that I did take accutane before and there are side effects which do scare people but my confidence went up after taking accutane. It changed my life and although my acne came back, I know that it will clear it up again and people who usually do a second course stay acne free apparently but we will see. I just had the typical side effects during my first course, dry lips, dry skin, nosebleeds, and joint pain but nothing severe. And look three years later I don't have any health issues. If you start it, you can stop it if you don't like the side effects but it will change your life if you are sick and tired of having acne, it sucks but with accutane, it changed everything for me. Btw, i never had depression while on accutane. I think a lot of people are just already depressed when having acne but it is more of frustration and they are jus associating it with depression. i am not saying that people do not get depressed while on accutane but for me, I was not depressed. It just sucked having acne at the time being but i knew that it would clear me up and I was always positive. Just stay positive like I did. Just try it out and consult with your dermatologist about it! Hope that helps. Check my gallery if you want to see the before and after pics of my acne during my first accutane course. Good Luck!

Hi thanks. The people telling me not to take it haven't answered whether they have taken it or not so. I'll check out your log and what not. Thanks!
