I just started accutane today. I don't have very severe acne. Only about 1-2 pimples at the moment and some tiny bumps on my forehead. I would say my biggest problem is tiny blackheads on my face that aren't noticeable unless looking really close in the mirror. The derm let me go on it because I have been on 3 different oral antibiotics for acne totaling over 3 years and many topical medications that have failed to completely clear my acne. I am almost 19 years old now.
I was wondering if you think I will experience an initial breakout while starting the accutane if I have been on topical vitamin A for about 6 months and had some bad initial breakouts with that. I am on 40 mg a day.

I've been on 40mg a day for about a month and I started my IB around the third week. Not everyone gets an IB, but I remember reading somewhere that the presence of macro comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) increases the likelihood of an IB, so it's possible that you will since you said you have blackheads. I wouldn't worry too much about it though, just keep moisturizing and be very gentle with your skin, and you should be fine. If you do have an IB, it should resolve quickly and get better from there.

Omg u took accutane for the same reason as me! Lol. I took it got blackheads. My blackheads DISAPPEARED in week 3. It's crazy! I'm sure you'll be happy with the blackhead result. My acne got much worse though, on my cheeks specifically. Im on month 4 1/2. 80mg a day

Hah i'm taking 40 mg per day and also got my IB in the third week! Hopefully it subsides soon! 🙁
