Hey guys, this is my first post here so I will give you a little background info first.

I've been lurking on this forum for a few months and decided it was time to sign up and ask for your advice.

I'm a 17 year old boy and suffer from what I would say is moderate cystic acne.

It all started back when I was 15 and a half. That's when I noticed my first pimple and soon after it quickly got worse.

I didn't think too much about my acne because I thought it was normal during puberty and due to hormonal changes.

I tried a lot of different wash lotions, cleanser, toners, moisturizer etc. but nothing seemed to control my red, inflamed pimples and oily skin.

So this April I finally mustered up the courage and went to a dermatologist. She diagnosed me with acne papulopustulosa and precribed Minostad 50mg, Differin and BPO.

I took all the meds as prescribed and after around 2 months I was completely clear. I stopped taking the antibiotics but still applied the BPO once or twice every week.

My skin was great and I was very happy.

Around August/September I noticed I was getting a few small pimples and papules again but nothing serious.

In October I decided to go the derm again and she prescribed me Differin and BPO.

1 week later all hell broke loose.

I broke out all over my face with deep, inflamed pimples and nodules. At that time I believed it was due to my heavy weight lifting and stopped going to the gym.

For two months now my skin has been horrible and I am regularly getting cysts on my forehead, cheeks and jawline.

I've even tried taking the antibiotics again but they didn't help this time around.

I am not sure what to do anymore, should I give the antibiotics another shot or should I go on Accutane?

The thing is I am afraid of the side effects from Accutane. My hair is already thinning and shedding quite a bit and I read that Accutane causes tiredness and joint pains, which would be detrimental to lifting weights.

Furthermore, my dermatologist is currently on holiday for two more weeks and I would have to see a new one.

What would you say is my best option, Accutane or Antibiotics?

Differin may have cause an initial break-out. I would try antibiotics and also begin a regimen of probiotics to replenish all your good bacteria. If that doesn't work after a couple months, just go for accutane if you can.

Taking antibiotics and probiotics at the same time? Wouldn't that be stupid since the antibiotics immediately kill of the good gut bacteria from the probiotics?
