I am almost at the end of my 2nd month of accutane, going to start 3rd month soon. A few days ago I have notice that my vision is getting worst and is getting a lil blurry. Before my vision is not really good but i can still able to read signs on the road and menu on mcdonalds without glasses, but right now I can't read them until I get close to it.
Have anyone experience this? If yes, did you stop taking accutane?? I really don't want to give up half way of my course. I have been struggling with my acne for 2 year now and I really want to get rid of my acne, at the same time I am scare of what it will do to my eye.
Accutane can cause many different eye issues. Some of the side effects listed can cause vision issues to such as high sugar levels, severe dry eyes and other eye issues. It is best to call your physician to speak to them about your vision problems. We are Not physicians! Basically you can risk permanent eye problems or possibly acne free face as Accutane is not a guarantee that your acne won't return!
Your blurry vision is likely not due to a refractive error (something that would be able to be corrected with contacts or glasses), but due to dry eyes aggrivated by Accutane. When your tear film lacks oil, your watery-based tears evaporate more quickly causing dry eye. And since the surface of your cornea is pourous and not smooth, this dryness causes the corneal surface to become more exposed and thus causes blurry vision, especially at the end of the day (for me at least). I've had this exact dry eye issue myself for several years now and have seen opthlamologists about it before I started Accutane.
Try placing some eye drops in your eyes when you notice your vision gets a little blurry, if you do this and your vision instantly clears up for a short while (even if it's just for 30 seconds and after the initial water blurriness that all tear drops cause), there is a good chance your tear film lacks oil and this is the problem. I highly recommend Systane brand eye drops, especially the high performance type. If the drops do not help your vision at all, even for a very short time like 15 seconds, you may have developed a visual refractive error, which can happen at any point in a person's life. Regardless, it'll be good to see an opthlamologist about your visual issues.
There is a chance Accutane can permanently alter your eye's oil glands so that this issue persists, but there are some people who's oil glands go back to their pre-accutane functioning after the treatment is complete. There are some symptom mitigating, but not permanent, treatment options available from an opthamologist if the issue persists after Accutane is stopped.
