Accutane can prevent the acne recurring in some cases and it's almost sure to stop your acne from returning to as bad as it is pre-accutane.

However, Accutane can cause severe birth defects in unborn children so you obviously cannot get pregnant whilst taking it. There's also a certain amount of time you have to wait before getting pregnant after Accutane to make sure it's properly out of your system so I guess this is something to consider

I've been on Dianette for 3 months and starting to see real improvement in my skin, however I'd like to try for a baby next year and obviously would have to get off it! Absolutely terrified since everyone says acne comes back even worse!

Would taking Accutane mean I could get off Dianette afterwards with no problem?

This is such an old post but thought I'd give it a shot nonetheless....

I'm in the same boat here as you were.... ready to start a family; dianette is looking like it is starting to have have an impact on my moderate / severe acne, but really want to try for a family next year.

I know I'll have difficulty conceiving (long story) so it's likely to be a long and arduous process. I can't stand having a face full of acne to boot!

The GP has said they will refer me for accutane if the dianette isn't fully effective within a another 2 months time, but I'm worried that if it clears me completely, they won't make the referral.

Did you ever have any luck?

I went on Diane and Accutane (you have to be on BCP while on Accutane) in 2004. Stayed clear for 9 years. Stopped taking the Diane, and the acne came back. So, although Accutane is great, if your acne is truly 'hormonal' (if it clears up on Diane, this is probably the case), then Accutane may not be a permanent solution.
