Hello,

I have been suffering from acne for about 9 years now. The severity of my acne would continuously fluctuate between moderate and severe and I finally decided to go on accutane a few months ago. What caused me to go on accutane was that during the summer, my face suddenly broke out with what I think are closed comedones--and that is ontop of the regular inflamed acne that I already had. They stayed on my face for two months with zero signs of reduction and so I finally decided that I needed accutane. I read some things that said accutane may not work very well on comedonal acne but I have finally seen some results and so I thought I would share some pictures:

NOTES:

-My dosage plan:

-Month 1: 30mg a day [DONE]

-Month 2: 30mg a day [DONE]

-Month 3: 30mg a day [DONE]

-Month 4: 40 mg a day [IN PROGRESS]

-Month 5: 40mg a day

-Month 6: 40mg a day

-Month 7: 30mg a day

-I am currently about 20~ days into my 4th month. I only really started to see noticeable results when I went up to 40mg a day

-I have only experienced mild side effects that include slightly dry lips (I only have to use chapstick about one day a week) and slightly dry skin which never flakes or looks dry aslong as I put some light lotion on my face after washing. I am not quite sure why I am not getting as dry as some other people. Maybe it is because I am at a lower dosage than most?

Anyways, I am happy that I can finally post some pictures to show some results and contribute to the forums in some way. This is not an accutane log because I do not plan on updating my progress here, I just want to show how accutane works on comedonal acne.

A lot of the deeper scarring you can see are from my previous years of acne and I have experienced some additional scarring and a lot of redness while taking accutane. The amount of redness I had during month 1 and 4 are the same, but the slightly different lighting makes it look like there is a big difference. I still have spots left and I am still breaking out, but I still have 3 months of treatment left to go so I am hopeful that I will be completely clear at the end.

I had some free time tonight and so I just thought I would type this up for anyone who wants to look at pictures of accutane progress or wondering about accutane and comedonal acne. Thanks for reading and feel free to send or post any questions!

How was your closed comedones purge from the skin?

My small ones will become pustules but the bigger ones will turn into cysts which gave me scars as a result.

if accutane kills oil production, it should prevent comedones, no?

Thank you times a million for posting this!!!!! I have dealt with comedonal acne for years! It is the most aggravating thing ever!! I am on week 7 of accutane and I have scoured the Internet for someone with success from this type of acne! I am so relieved that accutane helps. I think I have noticed a very slight improvement but now I have hope that by month 4 my skin will be comedone free!! Thank you so much and good luck!!!!!

I also have comedonal acne and so far accutane managed to reduce it significantly (i'm on my third month). And i think that was the main cause of my initial breakout on my first month, the majority of them purged to the surface. Unfortunately it left red marks :( The rest of them are slowly going away, which makes me happy! Before accutane i was also wondering if this pill would treat this kind of acne.
