Got a perscription for 80mg Accutane from my derm which I start tomorrow, I'm excited! 22 y/o male, 170lbs, moderate acne on face and severe on back (mostly shoulders). The treatment is for 4 months. I went to CVS today and picked up a chapstick, Aquaphor, vaseline loation, and cetaphil moisturizer. Like many of you, I have tried many other treatments and my most recent one was: 10% BP in the shower, topical clindamycin 2x a day, and .025% retinol cream at night. It defintly helps, but I still have acne. I am hoping that the Accutane helps 'cure' it.
I know to expect the dry lips, nose, skin, and I will be on the lookout for anything more serious. I have been doing some reading on here and there is awesome first-hand advice.
All feedback is welcome.
my old advise to anyone who uses it is: drink plenty of fluids, limit vitamin A rich foods, eat low fat, watch the salt intake, and do not get pregnant (its teratogenic). Accutane raises LDL cholestorol increases risk for heart attack stroke. Vitamin A in large doses (in this case accutane) is toxic to the liver and can cause long term complications. These complications can affect other GI organs.
Be safe.
My advice is to be patient and not to expect major changes right away. Also, don't dwell and obsess on every headache, body ache, feeling down day you might have. Think about how good you'll feel when your acne becomes something in your past and you don't have to think about it every day. Good luck and I wish you all the best!
I've been on accutane for few weeks to help with very very bad acne and I expected the worst from this treatment but in only few weeks my acne is 40% better.
My Routing is to shower morning and night no more than 10 minutes long tee tree soap, moisturise with e45 lotion if staying in my house and if I go out side I use simple hydrate moisturiser, Any Chapstick for my lips.
