Hi everyone. So, I was on accutane for 6 months, and I got little to no results. I still have moderate/severe acne. I guess it is just disheartening because I spend so much time on these forums reading about how much success people have with it. I seriously feel like I am the only person in the world who Accutane didn't work for. Has anyone else had an experience like this?

Accutane shrinks sebaceous glands, which reduces oil temporarily (the sebaceous glands grow back over time).
However, your hormones still control the rate of oil production. Basically Accutane has shrunk the opening in the "oil fence" so to speak, but your hormones may still be pouring oil out of that opening 24/7, in which case the Accutane doesn't help a whole lot.
This can still be happening in the deeper layers of your skin, even if the surface feels relatively dry.
oh you are not the only one...but yes it feels that way, especially on this site it does work miracles for 95% plus....they have no idea what it is like to be in the minority here- none!
so our path is harder, those of us that actually were on accutane and suffered the side effects, still have to keep working- stinks!
so you work on diet, for me dairy and wheat were triggers, yes it's hard to avoid but I do....and BP never worked for me either (again I'm in the 5% how nice!) but thankfully SA does
don't give up, you can win, it is just much harder without the miracle pill- you actually have to work hard to find the answer...the derms will not help, they scratch their heads and say gee it works for everyone else, I just don't get it...and there is nothing else that they've been taught
so chin up, the triggers are out there, start a food journal, eliminate dairy first, experiment with some good topicals, don't give up
and there aren't many of us out there, but there are a few! there is hope!
Thank you for all of your replies! it definitely helps just getting support from people (: I honestly can't remember what my dosage ended at, but I know that it was relatively low. I had LOTS of side effects of the accutane, and still even have a couple of them. It did help the acne on my body, but my face was almost completely unaffected, maybe a little less oily. I never really even understood why my term took me off, he just did.
I appreciate all of your suggestions too! I have tried The REgimen and diet change, but I am considering trying both again, so thank you for the advice (:
As for hormones, I think that that is probably my biggest trigger. I am on spiro now, which is helping the most out of anything I have tried, even though I have not reached the results that I would ideally like to have from it
Sorry for such a long response, but thanks again guys! I really appreciate you all taking the time to help me out (:

When your signature says you stay clear by avoiding sugar, are you talking about refined sugars only? Fructose from fruits?

I eat a modified Paleo diet. I don't eat sugar or white flour products except in rare circumstances. I eat fruit and some whole grains in moderation. But in general I focus on vegetables, seafood, and meat.
