Went to dermatologist to look at my acne. My acne is moderate close to severe but my jawline is severe. I had cortisone injections on my jawline so it should take a bit to see if it flattens.
I was told by looking at my face, to use epiduo as the topical cream and solodyn as the antibiotic. I also brought my facial products to the derm to show what i use and was told those are great products for acne.
I was given a few samples of epiduo and solodyn as I don't have insurance. I was told that its very expensive without insurance. Does anyone know how much a 1 month supply of epiduo and solodyn cost individually without insurance? I was told it would take 4-6 weeks to see some type of results but it should clear up your skin in probably 3 months or so.
I checked reviews online and from what i read, epiduo doesn't really do much. Thoughts on this? Did this work for you? Im told to only use this at night. Also, i know epiduo has Benzoyl peroxide but does this work better than it? I was told i could just use 2.5 or 5% BP if i dont want to spend the money for the epiduo since i dont have insurance. I could get acne.org bp and thats $25 and would last a very long time. What about epiduo?
I also read a lot of ppl mentioning that going on an anti-biotic is the worst thing you can do. Is this true or false based on your experience? I read some reviews where ppl mentioned there is hair loss as a side effect and that it doesn't work at all. I did read some good reviews about it but mostly were negative.
Is epiduo + solodyn a good choice for moderate to a bit close of severe acne? I read reviews that this is what most derms prescribe to patients where their acne isn't severe but its getting there. I had asked if i would been a candidate for accutane and was told its best to do this first to see if it works. The thing is i dont think there is any way i would try accutane b/c i read there are some really bad side effects like sexual dysfuction.
Which is more important? Epiduo or solodyn? And how long should i use it before i can say... okay this isn't working or making it worst. Should i stop asap if either of these are causing problems?
Hey, I hope epiduo works out for you, it's doing wonders for me and I've been using it just over a week. I only use it at night, a pea size amount and only on my acne affected areas. I haven't experienced the stinging red itchy side effects everyone talks about....
Morning: cleanse face with my mild 0.5% salicylic wash, moisterise with cetaphil
Night: cleanse face with my mild 0.5% salicylic wash, let face dry for 10mins, apply pea size amount of epiduo to acne affected areas, let epiduo dry and wait 10mins, moisterise with cetaphil
I also take an oral antibiotic 50mg twice daily.
If you're sensitive to the epiduo, make sure you use a gentle non medicated cleanser and moisteriser like cetaphil.
My acne is mainly on my chin, angry red swollen cysts! Just a week of using epiduo the bumpiness has gone down by 90%! I still have pimples on my chin, but it's not so cystic, and any new pimples are more discreet and go away after a day or two.
In Australia the price of epiduo and antibiotics isn't too bad, approx. $30 for each. As you're only using a pea size amount daily the tube will last for ages!
I'm loving epiduo, it's really helped with the inflammation and I really hope it keeps on working as my wedding day is in September! Good luck, hope you're experience is just as uplifting
I'm on minomycline. Massive difference between bp and epiduo. I used bp previously and it did nothing to bring down the inflammation and redness. After a few weeks it would dry a pimple out but by then 5 more have reared their ugly head. I was skeptical at first too, especially reading some people's review, but I think they were using way more than a pea size. It calms down a cystic pimple overnight for me. They don't vanish obviously, not straight away, but it has done wonders for the massive bumps that were all over my chin. Try it and see for yourself, good luck!
Would you say just using epiduo would be fine or would i need to use the antibiotic my derm prescribed me? The thing is i dont have insurance so from what i see online, it cost between 850-1000 dollars per month for 30 pills. Thats pretty expensive... i dont mind that but i read a ton of ppl said it doesn't work. Im also worried that once you get off anti=bitoics your acne would come back even worst than they are.
Do you have opinion on this?
I would say that Dan's regimen would be the cheaper option, but I have no opinion on what would work better.
From my own experience I'm currently using epiduo at the moment (I need to update my signature now you've alerted me to it) along with a topical antibiotic and its keeping my acne at bay with a lot less hassle then following the regimen, however it was following the regimen that got me clear in the first place. I'm just using epiduo to keep my clear because I only have to use a small amount in the evening.
I would say that if you're a position where purchasing epiduo is going to be too costly, then give the regimen a go. It worked wonders for me.
Well for me it isn't that costly. I think epiduo is $100 or so. The Dan Regimen BP cost $25 or so. However it seems like you have to follow dans regime to a tee for it to work and use it 2x a day and you cant use any other product during that time.
But if you use epiduo, that wouldn't be the case? I know epiduo is once a day only at night.
Also are you suppose to put moisturizer over epiduo or not?
I use a pea size amount of epiduo in the evening with a topical antibiotic applied twice a day. I wait about 10 mins and then apply a bit of moisturiser. As my skin was already used to using BP, I had no adverse reaction to the epiduo.
A tube of epiduo lasts around 3-4 months. If using the full regimen, a bottle of dan's BP lasts around 2-3 months.
I've never tried the regimen, just other bp products and never had success personally. But try the regime if financially it might be better for you? As for epiduo, I love it. It's helped my big sore cystic pimples wonderfully. Although pimples still come up, they aren't cystic, and go away in a day or two rather than weeks. I don't think you have to to use oral antibiotics with epiduo, but better to talk to you derm rather than take my word for it. I wait 10-15mins after I've applied the epiduo at night and then moisterise lightly with cetaphil. Good luck with your decision!
Do you know if you can use any other stuff while doing epiduo? For example can you still put an acne cream like salyclic acid on during the day? Or i should avoid it completely when im using epiduo? Should i also avoid any mask like aspirin mask, queen helene mask or using honey when im using epiduo?
So during the day, you dont put any acne cream at all? And only at night the epiduo? Thus you only use acne treatment at night and during day just clean and mositurize?
Okay i used the epiduo once every other day and i did it for a few days. Not only has my cystic pimples gotten more red on my jawline, but more and more cystic pimples are now in my jawline area. I had 3-4 of them and now theres 6-7 and its extremely red and painful. Is this the initial breakout that people talk about when using epiduo?
Does anyone know how long a tube of epiduo should last? I was given 6 samples of epiduo from my dermatologist and each one is about 2 grams. I spoke to someone who has these samples and was told those samples should last 1 month or so thus each of these 2 gram samples should last 5 applications? Would that be correct?
How big is the tube? I googled and its 45g but is that the only size that you can purchase? Does anyone know how much does it cost without insurance? I googled and it seems like its around $400 for it? Should i wait until i run out of samples first before purchasing it?
Also, i have a coupon card given by my derm for the epiduo and i read that it saves $50 off epiduo since i dont have insurance. Does anyone know the approximiate price for it? Another question i have is do certain places charge more or less for these prescriptions? Such as a regular drugstore vs a big name drugstore? Or should prices be all around the same? I would like to know where i can get the epiduo the lowest cost as im from nyc.
The official ny state prescription paper i received from my derm... does anyone know if it expires? I was given this about 2 weeks ago and i wanted to know does it expire after a few months or whatnot? Such as if i was to get it 3 months later on after the prescription note was given to me, would it still work or would i need another one?
Okay so i been using it for some time now. However it seems to cause my cystic pimples. The first few days it seemed to help but the breakout now is really bad. I gotten more cystic pimples in the area.
Also im a bit confused about the applying the epiduo. I was insftructed by my derm to just use a pea size amount. I know what a pea size amount looks like as i seen pictures of what ppl do with pea size. But do they mean pea size for the entire face? Or do they mean pea size for each area of the face? For example, i have very bad acne on my right jawline. I also have a good amount of acne on my forehead. Then i have a good amount on the left side of my face.
Does that mean i use a pea size amount for each of those 3 areas thus 3 pea size amounts or just 1 pea size amount for all 3 places? Because if someone has acne in many areas of the face, i can't imagine a pea size would be enough if they have pimples everywhere.
Also, is applying moisturizer necessary? Does applying it make it work better or not work?
Hi, I'm using Epiduo at the moment as well When they say a pea sized amount they definitely mean for the whole face. If you use a lot more than that you'll probably find it causes a lot of irritation but in reality I probably do use a little bit more than that for the entire face because I have acne in multiple places like you. I think it's fine if you just apply a really thin layer all over and measure it that way rather than by a pea size of solution on your finger. Just remember that less is definitely more with Epiduo so you don't want to overdo it.
Moisturiser-wise I never apply moisturiser straight after Epiduo. I apply the Epiduo on its own at night and wash it off in the morning then apply a moisuriser for during the day. It seems to work well for me as my skin is improving as well as staying nice and smooth rather than getting dried out and flakey. I think you definitely need to moisturise at least once a day with Epiduo though otherwise I think you will run into difficulties with dryness and irritation. Hope that helps!
Epiduo was my Savior! I used the small sample tube and then purchased the big tube and only got half way through that and my skin was clear. Probably 2 or 3 months... I use it maybe once a week now only on my problem areas if they are starting to break out. Definitely use as little as you can as my face did get quite irritated. I moisturized day and night while on it but usually waited an hour after applying it before moisturizer at night. If I wasn't moisturizing twice a day my skin was flaking off, which was gross! Just see how your skin reacts to it.
