I will be going to my 3rd Dermatologist in 3 years... As of right now, the doctor and the rest of his team are away on vacation until the 22nd of July. My appointment is on July 24th at 10:30 am.

For the past 3 years, I've tried a few things to help maintain my acne.. but, as i continued treatment.. i had to move onto stronger medications because my acne just got worse...

Here are the things i've tried:

1. Dalacin (Dalacin-T) (Used for 3 weeks; Did nothing at all)

2. Benzoyl Peroxide (Ordered it off Acne.org; Did wonders at first, then made my acne worse; Used for 2 months)

3. Stievamycin (Used for 1 month; Did nothing)

4. Stieva-A (Used with Benzamycin; Did wonders at first, then made my acne worse; My Dad noticed that my acne got worse throughout the treatment; Used for 2 months; However I continued to use the Benzamycin alone for 10 months)

5. Benzamycin (Used with Stieva-A; Did nothing; Discontinued use after 1 year; Just made my acne worse like the Stieva-A)

6. Blu-U Light Treatment (Did this once a month for 8 months; Did nothing; Discontinued it)

7. Chemical Peels (Did this once a month for a year; Did nothing; Discontinued it)

8. Pro-Active (Used it for 2 months; Waste of money; Discontinued it)

9. Glycolic Acid/Salicylic Acid (Used it off and on for a year; Made acne worse)

10. Doxycycline (Used for 1 month; Did nothing)

11. Tetracycline (Used for 1 month; Discontinued it)

I would try other medications, however.. im allergic to the majority of the remaining medications i havent tried.

When I go to my dermatologist appointment.. should i bring up accutane, if the doctor doesnt? cause, i really wanna try accutane! i mean, i just want clear skin!! i havent had the luxury of feeling smooth skin.. in like 7 years.. I'm 19 now :/.... so you could imagine how horrible i feel at the moment...

My profile pic was taken 2 years ago... when the medications were working... at first... and now, my acne has gotten way out of control... dont worry... ill post more pics of myself.. if i start accutane... it'll just be pictures of my progression.. weekly!

Good luck with whatever you decide. Just make sure you do your research and don't blindly trust the dermatologist. If you feel that you have exhausted all your options, try to find the root of your acne. It might be multiple causes, and a good dermatologist/ doctor should be able to help you figure it out.

You listed things that you tried, but it seems that you gave up on most of them after a couple of months. Just so you know, most drugs make acne worse before it gets better, so maybe you didn't stick with some of them long enough? Have you gotten your hormones checked, and other things too (e.g. vitamin deficiencies)?

I saw that you tried blue light...I tried red light and had some short term success with that on the surface level.

Whatever you decide to do, best of luck!

If that's what u want I would bring it up. Your at the point where you have tried many things and failed. Even though I think u may have giving up quickly. Either way if your acne is presistant enough and not responding to other drugs an you are aware of all the side effects and the things that can go wrong and you are willing to risk that then I say go for it

Hey, generally speaking all you should need to do is explain to your Dermatologist all the treatments that you have tried, explain that they've failed and you would like to try accutane.

With regards to your antibiotic usage, the general consensus is that you have to be on them for at least 3 months before you can assess whether it has been a sucess or not, so that being said, your Derm may want to try you on those again. However, not that I'm recommending this or anything...but you could say you've taken them for 3 months instead of 1.

If he doesn't prescribe it, and you're sure you want to take it, just emphasise how much it is effecting your quality of life, social relationships and self confidence, say that you have researched the drug, are aware of the side effects etc.

Good luck to you :)

@Miss Soloist: thanks for the reply! :Di want accutane.. i literally breakdown when i feel my face..or when i see myself in the mirror... i have these deep, big, red bumps on face that have been there for months!!! and they havent come a head.. they just stay there.. all hard, and sore!!! will accutane get rid of these stubborn bumps?? will accutane get rrid of most, if not alll my bumps??? will accutane help me? :/

Also, what if the Derm doesnt prescribe me accutane? should i find a new Derm who will? I mean, since they are technically a doctor.. shouldnt they hear they the needs and wants of their patient? and to make them happy.. consider listening to their patient(s).
