Triglycerides And Accutane And Alcohol

Went for my first lab tests since starting accutane....not so good. Triglycerides up from 71 to 255. That's quite a jump. However, I did have two glasses of wine the night before. I am wondering how much of the trigs elevation was due to the alcohol. Any one have experience with this. I have not been drinking since I started, it was an isolated incidence of truly only two glasses. It did make me feel pretty awful the next day , though. My doc is gonna let me stay on it and just follow them, maybe end up on lipitor for a bit if they continue to climb.

I thought I was doing really well watching trigs...no dairy and minimal animal--chx or fish only--only 1-3 times per week. Only egg whites once a week. Apparently, I could do better. I didn't realize the close relation to carbs and trigs, so I am going to cut those out also. Plant based entirely and low carb.

I'll let ya know how it goes next month.

Well if it was red wine, that's sppouse to be good for cholesterol! Did you fast for your labs? Also, you have the best diet ever, be skinny, take accutane and have abnormal cholesterol labs. Accutane can effect that, it's stated in your rx info and it may or may not go away after treatment per Roche! It also clearly states that Accutane can cause Hyperlipidemia!

Do a search on this board many other members on accutane have spoken about that. Thier docs took them off of Accutane b/c of it! Yes, carbs do effect Cholesterol alot of people with type 2 diabetes related to weight and diet have high cholesterol and blood pressure. When they cut out the carbs and loose weight, thier sugars, cholesterol and etc..go down or away!

I am not going to try and convince you to stop accutane but, By eating a plant diet and protien is a wonderful idea and in fact you could probably clear up your acne naturually and not have to take 2 potent drugs!

I'd also like to know what are some of the highest trigs that people have experienced (first hand, experience)? Has anyone been able to decrease them with dietary changes while on accutane? How long after discontinuing the drug did they return to baseline (again, first hand info, please).
