Hello,
I'd like to share my experiences with isotretinion, mostly to see if other people's results/effects are similar or not to my own. I'm a 19 year old male and I've been on 20mg for nearly 2 months out of a total 8.
After these 2 months my acne has reduced dramatically, I was used to new acne every day for years and now I hardly ever get any new acne, on my face at least.
The main effect I've felt from the isotretinion is a sense of drying out - my skin often flakes off similar to sunburn and I have to rinse my face around every 6 hours I find. I've been using a cream on my lips because otherwise they get very dry, irritating and sore. I also seem to have to be careful not to over-scrub in the shower, after I showered today my face was very red and started stinging very painfully until I put some cetaphil on which reduced the stinging to a managable level. The inside of my nose also gets dry and bleeds a little, just enough to form irritating scabs which can be painful. Not sure what I can do about that.
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures from when I started the treatment, here is me now. My face has hardly any acne compared to what it had 2 months ago, except for blackheads which I still have a lot of, especially around my nose.
I'm a few weeks in and having roughly the same reactions @ 40 mg every other day. I was prescribed 40 mg 2x a day (!!) and am hoping I can get it reduced to 20 a day to keep me from turning into a speck of dust . I am getting the same somewhat flushed/raw look as well after applying cetaphil. Good luck! Sounds like you're going to be a success and good for your derm to not give you a crazy high dose starting out.
Ic. When you say "pick a lot," what exactly do you do to the pimples on your body? Do you consider touching them with your fingertips or hands as picking? Or do you physically scratch at the pimples or squeeze them?
I don't so much anymore but I used to scratch and squeeze at them pretty much every night when I went to bed. I was often a bloody mess. I know this obviously didn't help but it was kind of a frustration thing I guess.
My derm mentioned the possibility of some kind of laser surgery after my 8 months of isotretinion.
I went to my derma yesterday. He said everything seems to be going well but there is obviously still a long way to go. He said that my 20mg/day seems right and gave me another 2 months on it.
I'm interested to hear how there doesn't seem to be a general consensus about how much isotretinion is best. I've seen reports on this forum saying as high as 120mg/day and as low as 20mg twice weekly. I guess it depends a lot on the person and how severe their acne is.
hey man, hopefully its going good for you.
When you tore your scabs off you lesions, did the lesions turn into open wounds or anything?
Yeah, I guess they did.
What about the scabs that peeled off by themselves, did those scar?
Not really sure, hard to keep track of specific ones. Not a whole lot peeled off by themselves I guess.
