I've had acne for about 6 years, (i'm 19) and have tried everything, (proactive, clindoxyl, birth control, accutane, bianca, epiduo) etc... I had tried accutane last year and it worked great but about 4 months after ending the breakouts came back, the doctor prescribed epiduo and I have been using it for about 2 months and it has done nothing but make it worse.
My doctor has suggested a long term low dose accutane regimen, which I am interested in but confused about some aspects. Does anyone know about some of the risk associated with this, particularly concerning liver conditions, stomach conditions, and possible pregnancy complications after coming off the medication.
Has anybody had great success with this? Does the acne return as soon as you come off accutane? Do I have to be on this regimen forever?
Thanks for any advice you may have, it will really help me.
Hello MM I am new on here as well and just posted because I have been thinking about starting Accutane. I have been doing a lot of research online and in addition to going to my reg Derm who I have been seeing for about 5 or 6 years I got a second opinion after the said I could go on Accutane. You may wish to do that if you have insurance and it doesn't cost you too much. The only real thing I would be cautious about which really concerns me about the talk of long term low dose Accutane is I don't believe there has been long enough research to see the long term effects of what this might cause. It appears to me this has really only been dabbled with more recently past 5 or so from Googling it. And since Accutane has been around since1982 in US thats about 30 years so if they only came out with lawsuit claims a couple years ago who knows what they'll come up with next. I have no real opinion yet because I have no started yet I have heard great things and bad things. Unfortunatly I guess everything depends on ones own body but I would just be careful with how long you stay on something like this, just a piece of caution. You may wish to post the dose increments you were on before and for how long etc too. Best of luck!!
