Hi all, I suffer from severe acne, since I was 14 (now 16) and so I was prescribed roaccutane. I have been on this drug for 5months and about to go in my 6th month. I was on 40mg a day, taking 2 20mg tablets, (weigh 10st10) but was knocked down to 30mg a day because I got some pretty bad side effects (swollen finger and my mood becoming more aggresive)

I have been on roaccutane for 5months now about to go in to my 6th month (40mg for month, and the 30mg been the rest and current), and honestly I don't think it's enough because even though my face is a lot better then it was (although it's still pretty grim because of all the red marks left) My main problem is my back, which is still full of spots and by now I'd of thought it would be near enough cleared (which it isn't at all) and I feel like giving up hope, because at the end of the month I'll have finished the course, which I don't want to finish, just incase the derm doesn't prescribe another course for me.

Does anybody have an idea when my back will start to clear? or become more visible or whatever? I don't care for the red marks on my face atm, because it's not exactly that bad, but the back is absolutly grim.

I would be surprised if your Dr pulls you off Accutane if you are still getting new spots. Mine told me the goal is to reach a dose where you stop getting new acne breaking through, then stick at that dose for a while then come off it.... but that is just my understanding of my docs advice.

Can't really see the point coming off it until it has actually done the job it is supposed to. You are 10st 10 which I think 150lbs or about 68kg............. all the reading I have done says the normal dose is like 0.5 to 1mg per kg of body weight. So in theory you could be on a lot higher dose but I guess with those side effects you have the Dr has to be very cautious.

No idea what the normal time frame is but I'm starting to see some improvements of my back and I've been on a lowish dose for about 15 weeks now.

I rarely see new spots appear, my latest known spot to appear was on my cheek, but it's now fading away. Just the remaining backne hasn't disappeared.

I wanted to stay on 40mg, or even be put on higher, but my mother asked the derm to put me on 30mg.
