Fair enough, but please don't assume ignorance of people just because they are taking the medication. I can assure you that I, as well as many others, have done countless hours of research on Accutane, specifically on ultra low-dosing, and have read the warnings and opposition. Often, it is safe to assume that if someone is even taking the time to post on an acne related website in regard to Accutane, they have probably done research elsewhere as well.

Simply put, there are far more people who have taken, and are currently taking, ultra low-dose Accutane with no side effects than otherwise. For many, this is enough to justify taking the medication.

If the medicine can provide someone with happiness and improve their quality of life, that benefit often outweighs the possible risks.

Back in 2009 I went on a course of 20mg - 40mg a day for about 7 months. The acne remissed and I went trying other methods for 2 years. It was then I went back to my dermatologist and asked for the low-dose course. I took 20mg a day for a week to get it into my system and have been on 20mg once or twice a WEEK for the last 10 months. I rarely have any flare-ups or pimples for that matter.

Keep your dose low, the results will be the same and your body wont hate you as much from the dryness.

How was your acne prior to accutane? Mine is moderate to severe so i'm not too sure if it will work! That is awesome that low dose works for you though. I will consult with my dermatologist neck time i see him 🙂 Also, do you know if you are allowed laser if you are on low dose?

I used epiduo before, broke me out like crazy! That was a year ago and I haven't used since. I've seen great reviews about epiduo, sadly it's not for me. When I woke up in the morning, 3 or more big acne appeared on my face. I consulted to another derm and she said I might be allergic to epiduo. surprisingly, adapalene (differin) is good, but my face can't handle too much retinoid. What brand of sunscreen do you use anyway?

I use sunsense daily suncreen 30+. It was recommended by my dermatologist. I live in australia so i'm not too sure if you will have it where you are from

hello, do you use roaccutane or the generic version? I used both 20 mg and 10 mg generic version of roaccutane (isotretinoin) last year, but I felt that the generic version were different than the original drugs. I felt that the generic version had many side effects compared to the original. They should be the same (generic and original) according to the regulations but I don't know whether it's really the same or not.

Accutane was and is the only thing that works for me. So I am lucky in that respect.

I used both 20 mg and 10 mg generic version of roaccutane (isotretinoin) last year, but I felt that the generic version were different than the original drugs. I felt that the generic version had many side effects compared to the original. They should be the same (generic and original) according to the regulations but I don't know whether it's really the same or not.

I use brand name Sotret prescribed by my dermatologist. I have used generic as well and can't say that I remember any different side effects or results between the two.

I know that it's a must while on accutane, but i'm always having breakout after wearing sunblock.

A couple of my friends said it took 2 weeks for it to start working. But it's been just over 2 weeks for me now and acne is still the same, if not worse! if anyone can shed some light on our predicament it would be much appreciated

you'll experience the side effects in 2 weeks or more after taking accutane. until now, I still have 1 cystic acne and 2 papular acne. I don't know that the accutane is working or not, but I believe it's working even though it takes quite a long time (over a month and I still get acne). Do you use prescription topical drugs while on low dose accutane? I used differin before but my eczema got so bad that I've to stop it.

I have epiduo on my cupboard but i'm yet to use it. I used to use it with minocycline and i felt that it didn't help too much. And it would irritate my skin and i thought it left marks longer if i used it. To answer your previous question about sunscreen. Yes i defintely use it. I usually used to use sunscreen anyway. I used epiduo before, broke me out like crazy! That was a year ago and I haven't used since. I've seen great reviews about epiduo, sadly it's not for me. When I woke up in the morning, 3 or more big acne appeared on my face. I consulted to another derm and she said I might be allergic to epiduo. surprisingly, adapalene (differin) is good, but my face can't handle too much retinoid. What brand of sunscreen do you use anyway?

Don't put anything else on your face while you are on any dosage of accutane. It is not necessary and will not expedite the process. Simply wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply an effective moisturizer like Vanicream lite lotion.

I have not had any hair loss that is for sure. I also never experienced any depression while on the medication. However, like anyone will tell you, the medicine reacts differently with everyone. I guess your only comfort lies in the statistical evidence that there are more people who DO NOT experience the serious side effects than those who do.

If you are going to take Accutane and are worried about the side effects make sure that, in the case that they do occur, that the benefit of not having acne outweighs the cons. I can tell you that for myself, someone who has had minor generalized anxiety disorder and some OCD issues, I am unable to point any fingers at Accutane for making either of these issues worse. I don't know if that is of any consolation, though.

Believe me when I say that the Accutane is "working" even if your acne is still the same. The speed at which you can expect to see clearance is different for everyone, but the average amount of time seems to be anywhere from 2 to 4 months. At your current stages you should actually expect to see a purging or initial breakout of your acne as the drug settles into your system.

Do not lose sight of the finish line! The Accutane will work and once it does you will be amazed at how clear your face will look and how different your outlook on life is. As for right now, ride it out. It's nothing you haven't dealt with before, I'm sure.

It was then I went back to my dermatologist and asked for the low-dose course. I took 20mg a day for a week to get it into my system and have been on 20mg once or twice a WEEK for the last 10 months. I rarely have any flare-ups or pimples for that matter.

Keep your dose low, the results will be the same and your body wont hate you as much from the dryness.

Umm i'm not too sure which version i use. I think they asked me at the pharmacist, and i got the cheaper one. They said it was the exact same stuff though

Not really on the low dose, no. One pill a week isn't much and doesn't affect sun sensitivity greatly. Not to say that I don't put on sunscreen when I head to the beach or go out on the boat -- I do of course. But when it comes to putting it on everyday when I'm just walking around outside? Nope and I never have a problem.
