so my doc has had me on accutane for over a year at 30 mg day, but I have been cutting the dose and for 5 months now i have been on 30 mg three times a week. well, i stopped taking it this week cause i developed clicking in my joints, and the occasional come and go mild pain. and by the stories i have read, this is just the beginning and it could get worse.......so i stopped, but my doctor still thinks iam doing his 30 mg a day thing. iam supposed to end my fake course in this month or two.
so now what do i do. are my joints gonna end up fucked up or what? can i prevent it? also, that mild pain that comes and goes is mostly on my right knee....
I had that when i was on my course and it completely went away after i came off accutane. For most people that goes away after you come off of the drug but for some people it doesn't.
If you have cystic acne you might want to try niacinamide. I've been taking it for 4 years and haven't gotten a cyst the whole time. Also i suspect it may have helped me recover with some of my sides because it is an anti inflammatory.
what side effects did you have?

the sides i had while on the drug that went away after coming off are dry skin and general soreness all over.
a couple months ago i stopped taking my thryoid medicine and niacinamide for 2 weeks and my face got pretty dry. Then when i started taking them again the dryness went away. not sure if there is definitely a connection but just something interesting i noticed.
Tried some sugar and additive rich yoghurt on returning to china, before I had my yoghurt production going. Should've fasted instead. It devastated me, still spotting some blood in stool. Too bad because before that, I was perfect.
To facilitate recovery, I'm going to start water fasting every other day from now on. I don't think my digestive system can handle daily eating.

Isn't there a maximum dosage you're allowed to take for so long before you have to take a break? That seems like a long time. My derm took my weight and had to determine the dosage and for how long I could take it for, I suggest you bring this up to them because Accutane doesn't seem like something you'd take for over a year consecutively.
I had that knee thing too, worse even because sometimes I'd feel it in my sciatic nerve. It went away for the most part but I still get it from time to time. To me it is worth it though because I finally have the perfect skin I wanted.

I bought that up, and he said that he had patients on 10 mg for years!! Ugh...I am at wit's end. I don't know what to do. I didn't sleep at all last night thinking of it. And my greatest fear, which my be foolish, is for my horrible acne to come back. You don't understand, my acne was deforming, moderately severe. For me, this risk was worth it. I wish I would have bought the dose lower at a faster rate, and maybe I would have not developed these clicks. So what to do? Either take a 1 month break, and continue giving myself 30 to 60 mg a week. I am really afraid of 30, cause I am a 200lb guy, is that gonna be enough? Right now I was taking around 13 mg a day, and I am crystal clear. But this clicking makes me think I should not try to take this indefinately, and maybe I should try to cure myself, considering I am almost 27, and have a high chance of curing myself with a normal real course. But that means telling the doctor the truth and possibly having to find a new doctor, because he gets mad and doesn't wan't to threat me no more. And I really like this doctor.
And diet does not help me. I ate a no carbs, no dairy diet for months, and all I did was lose 30 lbs. I am immune to all antibiotics, and rentinoids don't work on me.

Why don't you try some Vit D and Some Hyluronic Acid for the knee it may help!
Anyone of you struggle with redness and flushing after accutane and has it gotten any better?
See the pinned thread in the Roscea fourm called Mino & Accutane induced flushing! What things have you tried? Is it only at certian times or most of the time and do you have any other symptoms?
I took accutane 10 years ago and my main problems are excessive dry skin, thin ski, sensitive skin. Has anyone ever tried to take testosterone gel? Testosterone increases the oiliness of the skin and makes skin thicker. Maybe accutane reduces the testosterone level long term. I have never checked my testosterone level. Maybe it is worth a try?
Hey guys/gals.
My friend Will (from the documentary I was in) has a Blog and is working on a new post.
He wanted me to write some stuff about Accutane. It's basically an Anti-Accutane post.
He found this:
[Edited link out]
Scroll down about half way to 'Distribution'.
This is the bit I'm talking about:
Distribution Extent
Following oral administration in animals, the drug is distributed into many tissues including liver, ureters, adrenals, ovaries, and lacrimal glands.1 Distributed into bile in humans.53 54 113 Unlike vitamin A, isotretinoin is not stored in the liver.7
Distributed into bile in humans
It's interesting that myself and others here have had blood tests stating their bilirubin levels are high.
What could this mean?
It makes me wonder if the drug is stored in fat... No mention of it on here.
My eyebrows got so short and look terrible. What should i do about it? are they ever gonna grow back? with each week, i see them more and more shorter, and thinner. My eyelashes are really a disaster, lost so many of them... Corticosteroid injection would help me??
One more weird thing i forgot to mention here is that, when my eyes get wett, droping a tear or something, they get so irritated, its like the lacrimal glands are producing a fluid that irritates the eyes. Whats there to do about that? anyone had this problem? My eyes get irritated 2-3 times a day and it hurts like shit!.
And....before accutane, my body, and my face was hot. After accutane, my face is cold, cold cold. Why's that? Huh!
Give me some answers please!

Take BAXYL like I told you before , it will lubricate the entire body , especially your eyes , it does work. (=

My eyes are dry, yes, but i can live with dry eyes. The thing is that, when my eyes get wett, they get very irritated. That's the problem.
@Indigo- Nice find about isotretinoin and the liver.
I think the metabolites of 13 cis-retinoic acid (isotretinoin) are stored in the liver instead of the actual drug itself. It gets turned into all-trans retinoic acid(tretinoin) and other retinoids by the body. It has been said that most effects of isotretinoin are due to it being isomerized into the active form all-trans retinoic acid(tretinoin).
The idea that that the drug or it's metabolites are stored in the body for years is totally baseless.
It enters the body, does its sometimes permanent damage, then is metabolized and excreted out.
Great news about MMS!
Oof, I finally figured out the problem since coming to China. I thought their chicken was less factory farmed due to developing status; turns out they're the worst offender. They contain caffeine, antihistamines, acetaminophen, fluroquinolones (banned antibiotics), arsenic, and even Prozac, plus the usual horrible omega 3:6 ratio. NO WONDER.
Now I have to find some organic meat in Shenzhen, should be interesting.
Figured it out. Herbivorous fish like tilapia and catfish are ok when farmed on grains. So I can go with those for my bulk cheap protein source, even if I can't find anything decent that's organic around here. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/action-item-3-make-the-healthiest-choices-across-the-spectrum/#axzz2LtZQPfqX
Wow some people are getting really far out with the theories here, If you consistently feel shit all the time which I do, how can you gauge how a particular food or supplement effects you? Forgive me, but there is nothing that improve my symptoms whether it be a food, a supplement or anything.
Livetoregret,
I think part of it comes down to figuring out what's going on in the body. My research and experience has supported that something autoimmune is occurring, as supplements/drugs that stop the auto-immune response include oil of oregano, MMS, cannabis (a lot of research, oral ingested form) and some others instantly stop my body in its tracks and hits the reset button. What's going on in my body may be slightly different than others, but i think the underlying inability to fight off anything, and the body attacking itself non-the-less is the real issue...for me at least. I've experimented tirelessly and there are things that DO work. I'm sorry if they do not work for you, as I only hope that someday you can find relief as well. I am still struggling immensely, but I have to have hope that the symptoms will stop getting worse and will eventually plateau which has happened for some people. MMS has drastically improved things for me. Currently waiting on labs to get done for diabetes, hypothyroid, etc. to get more information too. Yoga and MMS has gone a LONG way for me. If you don't have searing joint pain, my gosh that's one thing to be grateful for. I have it all over my body...only thing that's helped is staying mobile, doing yoga, taking HA, and yoga. Started taking iodine as well, instantly smoother skin. Lots of things were apparently damaged. It's all a matter if finding what went wrong in the body, and how to manage or fix it. It is possible! Don't stop questioning!
I like the attitude. Happy to hear you're having some success

what's your experience with oil of oregano? Thats one I havent tried..
I have searing burning throughout my body as if I am burning from the inside, but at the same time my body is covered in chicken skin and I have the chills,I went and saw a lady today who has 25 yrs experience in treating medical and cosmetic problems holistically - she looked me over from head to toe, she says my circulation is impaired, my body can not eliminate red blood cells she looked at my labs and says I basically need to rebuild my entire system my skin and hair are reflective of internal destruction..I plan on doing cosmetic accupuncture among other things.
I dont ecen know anymore, Ive lost faith in everything and am feeling very suicidal at the moment.
Livetoregret, I figured out that my symptoms followed eating and digestive pattern, so I tried various elimination diets. I'd recommend seeing if fasting helps. If so, the problem may be resolved by diet changes.
Joseph - In the first year off it I ate my regular diet, whatever I liked really but Ive always eater healthily just with alot more bread & sugar and stuff. I never increased my water intake or eliminated anything and I was sort of cruising, everything went to shit in May last year for me., I started eliminating any bad stuff eating lots more fruit & veg, supplementing my diet, drinking tonnes of water and I have become so sick I feel Im hanging by a thread and death would be a blessing..
Im scared to fast I dont want to then become deficient in anything Ive worked so hard to have all the optimal nutrition for hair growth I dont want to traumatize my body anymore, Ive been through so much..I just feel and look so sick and poisoned
Pain is merciless, that's a given here.
Just because you think you're eating healthy, doesn't mean you're eating right for your damaged system.
Go on a 24-48 hour water fast. If you improve, you'll know that what you're eating is causing at least part of the problem. If there's no change, then you'll know that removing foods won't help.
You won't become deficient in anything from a 24-48 hour water fast. Humans can go a long time without food.
