Beta carotene and retinol are two completely different things, with beta carotene being far safer. With beta carotene, the body only makes what retinol it needs from the beta carotene.
Ive tried three different specialty soaps in the past month, with carrot soap being the worst of the three, cocoa butter bar soap being in the middle, and equate brand sensitive skin body wash being the best of the three.
just started a supplement combo of gamma oryzanol and beef tallow pills. Will see how it goes.
I do feel dry but still think the sebaceous glands are smaller now and accutane is gone.
Im actually finding that no shower soap at all is best. So the only things getting any soap/shampoo are hands and hair. The gut microbiome is likely involved in our issues. Aged garlic black currant avena sativa and kelp all have prebiotic properties. Just so worn down from the never ending fight.
Accutane didnt just wipe out acne on the skin. It wiped out beneficial bacteria all over the body. Body soap exacerbates the problem. A variety of Prebiotics I believe are key to recovery, such as those mentioned above. My machine has always listed laminaria, garlic, bananas, black currant, cabbage, cauliflower, brusselsprouts, oats as top food recommendations. Getting 3 or 4 of these in pill form daily I believe is huge. Crucifers are anti androgen so theyre out. Aged garlic and avena sativa are both pro androgen prebiotics. Kelp helps detoxify radioactive material.
Currently supplementing with Dha,Lecithin, Kyolic original, Vitamin c gummies. Lecithin activates Lrat, and Dha is an rxr and rar ligand.
I'm currently on low-dose isotretinoin (20mg/day). Would there be any risk in taking a 20-day course of Epitalon, Thymalin and GHK-Cu, all at 5mg/day concurrently? My dermatologist has no answer and I struggle to find any anecdotal experience online.
No notable negative side effects from the Accutane so far, just looking to mitigate damage.
I've experienced good things from doing keto, but also bad.
For myself at least, I went really, really hard on it. Like absolute zero on all carbs and sugars.
I didn't realise, but after about two weeks of this it got to a point where my body was under so much stress that I developed an intensely painful knot in my stomach, and which has probably impacted my digestion permanently.
I've also had periods of doing keto like this too strongly or for too long, and my body 'forgetting' how to process carbs.
It took me three weeks once to 're-learn' how to digest beans (a simple, healthy carbohydrate).
My point from all of this is, take heed of the advice from someone who has made mistakes being too hard/impatient with their health: go slow and be gentle.
Your body can actually stay in ketosis even if you eat a very small (I think they say under 25 or 50 grams per day?) amount of carbs.
Then you avoid all the issues I've mentioned regarding overdoing it and forcing your body.
Also, while keto is good - I've personally found fasting from all food completely (and then eating a small amount of carbs as part of a balanced diet) to benefit my health much more, rather than eating every meal as normal but without carbs.
At the moment my schedule for fasting is to eat only dinner on Mondays (i.e. 24h fast from dinner Sunday to dinner Monday), and then no breakfast on Wednesdays and Fridays (e.g. 18h fast from 6pm dinner Tuesday to 12pm Lunch Wednesday).
Some other tips:
- Try to stay well-rested and un-stressed during keto or fasting, this will help the body do its 'cleaning'
- Some light exercise is helpful too, if you can manage it. Something easy like a 45 min walk.
- Drink plenty of water. Again, don't overdo this, but keep a big bottle near at hand and try to encourage yourself to drink from it as often as you feel comfortable.
- During your day/s of fasting and keto, try to do gentle activities that don't create stress or nervousness. Set aside as much time as possible to day-dream or read from something light and entertaining. You don't want to be shaking yourself up, but rather, allowing your body to feel at peace (and so able to initiate and undergo its cleaning/healing processes). Walks outside are great, slow and peaceful, mindful activities.
Best of luck.
Hey All!
Ive been through several courses of relatively low dose Accutane, due to suffering with outrageously oily skin. Although it definitely helped with that whilst I was on it, the change wasnt permanent, and the oily skin returned.
Unfortunately the worst, persisting side effects for me were flushing, excessive sweating and a general intolerance to heat.
Even when its cold out Ill still sweat & flush, same with the smallest bit of exertion, such as walking up a flight of stairs.
Has anyone else suffered with similar post-Accutane, and if so how are you dealing with it?
Ive heard Plaquenil / Hydroxychloroquine might help?
Thanks!

Where did you hear or read this please?
Be specific, was it in relation to accutane or just excessive sweating in general?
Yes, I suffer from excess sweating, similarly can break out very easily just from walking or doing light duties etc
Havent known how to combat it. If you know more about it, please let forum know
Instead of damaging yourself with accutane, why not address the intestinal bacterial imbalance that causes acne? Aged garlic, yogurt, kefir, raw sauerkraut. Cutting back on sugar.
Yogurt gets me cystic acne and kefir didn't help, I'm currently without dairy, we shouldn't judge others for taking accutane
Hi I'm 25.. I had very mild acne. But I started taking Accutane 10 mg per day a year back (as prescribed). After 3 months, I started noticing grey hairs (I've never had grey hair before). My doc told it's not related to Accutane. So I continued. Finally by the 12th month, the grey hairs increased to around 20 in number. So I stopped the drug. Now I have around 20 grey hairs. Have been off the drug for 4 months. I'm scared. This month I experienced sudden clouding of vision in one eye after switching the lights off.. It resolved by itself within 5 minutes. This happened twice in the past 3 weeks. Have never experienced this before !! I'm so scared.. please help.. In blood test, the only condition I had was low Vitamin D.. Could it have something to do with my liver? Please let me know how I can reverse these side-effects.. I'm so worried
@chisa99 All I know about greying is that stress can cause it.
I agree completely with pido on stress causing grey hair. I believe autoimmune disease is a major factor with accutane people. My biofeedback machine has always indicated high wbc counts ever since I first started using it.
probably the most effective thing for autoimmune disease is beta glucan. Many studies show its ability to calm down an overactive immune system. I just started earthborn elements beta glucan and although Im not healed I can say it has decreased the fight or flight feeling within.
@thomas76 Yes I do believe I have been under much stress since the lockdown period started. Have been working from home since then. And somehow things are much stressful than before. So it could be either that or the Accutane or both together I suppose. But I'm unable to resolve this stress since finding grey hair is stressing me more and it just feeds the cycle LOL
The beta glucan just wasnt a good fit for me after a while. I should mention that my machine has always detected low hemoglobin ever since owning it. I would try synthetic iron supplements here and there, which would darken my stools and give me a short quick burst of energy but thats it. I recently started beef spleen pills, which is whole food heme iron, and these seem to be far more helpful than a cheap synthetic iron tablet. Just had some of the deepest sleep Ive had in ages. Only negative is the kidney pain. But I believe thats because fat soluble stored toxins, such as possibly accutane, are being converted to water soluble form, which would irritate the kidneys temporarily since the kidneys handle water soluble toxins. Im doing at least six capsules daily of codeage beef spleen. Other quality brands include ancestral supplements, dr Rons, and life giving store. Will continue with the daily beef spleen capsules and see how things go in the coming weeks.
@thomas76 Ever since Accutane messed me, I'm averse to taking any synthetic vitamins or supplements. Instead I'm trying to up my intake of whatever nutrition I need in natural form. And the greying has stopped since I stopped Accutane. But the ones which already went grey (20 strands or so) are still growing grey. But I've at least figured that Accutane is the cause.
Since I've heard people say it messes with the liver and that could lead to this, I have been taking liver strengthening foods like fresh Amla juice, curry leaves, false daisy plant herb (Bhringraj). Also have been consuming nuts and milk with fruits daily. It seems to be working and my hair is growing healthier now. I really hope these already greyed strands disappear soon too

No luck with copper here. Magnesium gives me diarrhea and rls. Probably the two most beneficial minerals for me have been calcium and iron in the form of bovine bone and bovine spleen. But not worth supplementing long term I dont think.
Ive gone back to beta glucan, only this time Im combining it with beef brain and vitamin c gummies. Beta glucan is a powerful hydration booster, more so than Hyaluronic acid. It also calms an overactive immune system. Beef brain is loaded with dha and cholesterol. Cholesterol is the precursor to testosterone. Testosterone converts to dht with the addition of hydrogen, which is increased with the use of beta glucan. 4 beta glucan capsules with 1 beef brain pill daily. Vitamin c gummies eaten as desired. Will post results in the next few weeks.
New here and to be honest I always thought the only side effect from accutane was dry skin (which I was totally fine with). Im currently dating a girl that I struggle keeping erections with. This is an issue Ive had since I was 18. I always thought it was an anxiety thing because when Im by myself I dont have the issue as much. Now I think its because I know the best way to pleasure myself and it takes lots of control and the exact correct movements. One day Im talking to my girlfriend about how I had horrible acne 16 years ago and I took accutane. She asked me what the long term effects were and I just said dry skin.. then we looked it up. And 3 serious side effects stuck out to me. Loss of libido (I still have one but its not nearly as strong as other men), numbness in the penis (not completely numb, I enjoy sex and it does feel good but I always had the feeling that I didnt enjoy it as much as others) and the loss of erection.
All these symptoms started around the time I started the drug. I was visiting my old hometown when I was 18 staying in a hotel. I hadnt eaten a lot that weekend (no Uber and I was in the middle of nowhere) and when my ex came to visit I also drank that night. I got ED. Not even loss of erection. I couldnt even get one. I freaked out, she was disappointed and I thought that was the reason for my anxiety for the next 10+ years. Luckily for me ED medication does help. (I cant finish on them but at least they help) I had so many horribly embarrassing moments with women throughout my life and I never once thought the root cause could be accutane. Doctors told me to exercise and eat better blah blah blah. I feel slightly better but also sad that there could possibly be no permanent fix for my issue.
