How is your hair loss? Its diffuse or it follows a pattern?
hairline receding with a pattern could be a mpb unmasked by the effluvium you had
if youre having heavy sheds, diffuse hairloss, and hairloss in areas that shouldnt be affected by AAG youre probably experiencing a chronic TE
its already been proved that accutane cause effluviums, diffuse hairloss and lower your hair density, but it should be temporary and improve by the time u get off of it
u should seek a professional help to figure it out with a doc what is causing it because accutane could mess with your hormones to a longterm point and this could be causing your hair loss
how is the state of your scalp/hair? its itchy, inflammed, very dry braking or is it normal?

Wow, that's very interesting!
Nobody would expect that we could have a candida overgrowth. Some people had a successfull treatment with cannabis oil or liver flushes if we look a bit back in this thread.
Your treatment with your supplements have maybe more or less the same effect.Everybody can easily check themselfs if they suffering on candida with a look on their tongue (white covered surface) and with a saliva test in a glass.
@eph95
How were you diagnosed with Candida? Was it a doctor who recommended those supplements to you?
@Tom87
I did the saliva test in a glass and it came out positive (there were the white strings). But still i'm a little sceptical about this...
The more i read about candina on the internet the less i'm convinced to this. It looks like a bussines to me. As i read doctors have a little knowledge about this and neglect (i know, we shouldn't trust them on the other hand ;)). I can only find on the internet some 'stories' how people wonderfully after years of pain find out the candida is the only cause of all their pain and miraculously cure themselves. They say - do that test, buy this supplement and you will be cured. Can someone provide me some worth, maybe scientific information, that candida can really be the bad guy? One day i even found a guy on youtube, who was convincing that it's certain opposite - candida overgrowth is not the cause of all the symptomps or ills, but the ills (like some autoimmunology diseases for example) can lead to candida overgrowth which is not bad itslef. This is the youtube movie: [Edited link out] but its all polish if anybody can handle this
I don't neglect all this stuff, i just want to be careful and be 100% sure something is safe... I would really like to do all the tests for sibo, candida and more, but i'm not sure if this is not just the business to take my money and could accidentally lead to worsen my health
Btw., about vitamin D - how could some of you be defficient in vitamin D, while living in Australia? (I saw some of you live there) You have nothing but sun in Australia, don't you? Would it mean body is not capable of producing vit D itself anymore?

I've read the first 10 pages or so from this thread before I realised there were over 300 pages, so now I just skipped forward and tried finding some updated info but it's naturally not easy.
I started taking accutane two years ago (I was 22 by then) because I had some nasty huge acne cysts on my face. 6 weeks in and I started noticing that my hair started falling in the shower at an unprecedented rate. This was very noticeable (mainly because my hair was pretty long, and by long I mean nearly 2 feet long) and it was pretty scary. I've NEVER had my hair fall even in the shower, changes of seasons/temperature, etc. I only took the accutane for two more weeks until I figured out it was that causing the hair loss, and then I stopped. And I kept losing hair. For months. To the point where I was forced to cut it short.
Fast forward two years to today and my hair is still falling, I've lost like half of it, and it's super thin. I've been taking a vitamin and zinc supplement and using a caffeine shampoo prescribed by my doctor for the past 6 months. Haven't really seen much change, it just keeps getting worse as my hairline is also receding. Is there anything I can do?
Has anyone reached any conclusion? I'm gonna start trying out a healthy diet and look more into that. But I just really wanted my hair back, it was literally the only good physical thing that I had and now it's gone. Doctors won't help either.

I'm not sure if the hair thinning or loss is due to the dryness we all suffer post accutane or immune dysfunction??
I've seen some people with immune function problems ( not accutane related ) that has greatly affected their hair growth. What was once lusher fuller looking hair has gone all dry, frizzy and wirey etc. So it would seem that our immune systems are out of balance or somehow altered after accutane, not just the dryness.
"Vit D in Australia" - I can't think that we lack it if you spend enough time outdoors which I do. I just spent the weekend at the beach soaking up the rays etc, my brainfog and issues didn't improve i can tell you that. It's not a question of receiving enough D, it's more to do with how our body's process it post accutane, that is the big unanswered question for me.
Still trying to improve my gut health, it's got to be the key to improving immune function - said last week that I was seeing an Endocrinologist but I meant to say Gastroenterologist. Looking forward to getting some answers from someone who should know their stuff. For once I'm going to trust in the system!
Guys, have you tried Lansoprazole? It's for stomach ulcers, treatment of heartburn and stomach acid control. My GP prescribed it to me to exclude stomach ulcer, acid reflux (I don't have any acid reflux) as I have a pain in my entire upper right abdomen/back. I guess they just don't know what to do with me, as my blood work is normal, and my doctor actually said 'I look too well' to have more serious issues, basically. Now, I don't really want to take it, judging by my previous experience of not being inquisitive enough with accutane.
It seems obvious that there is adrenal fatigue, damage resulting in low cortisol andDHEA. Not saying it is clear cut and the only damage that has been caused but it covers a lot of the side effects that everyone is reporting. Adrenal fatigue can take up to two years to recover from. Diet, mild exercise, controlling stress levels and good sleep aids recovery.
Supplements: Ash wagandha, holy basil, fish oil, magnesium, vit B5 and 12,, vit C, VitD3 and Zinc.
Many of you advocate all of this as helpful in recovery.
http://draxe.com/3-steps-to-heal-adrenal-fatigue/
Cortisol and DHEA, crucial for good health will often take a nosedive during advanced cases of adrenal fatigue.
DHEA is a precursor to the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone
Also look at the links for leaky gut and candida.
We all know that accutane closes down sebaceous glands so it makes sense to look at the effect on multiple glands.
Also consider prostate gland.
Seen much discussion on this already but who has had extensive tests and followed a treatment plan.
Anyone care to share their results.
Please look at this Dr Axe website - there is quite a lot of lifestyle and diet advice.

I had a x4 cortisol saliva test and didn't notice anything unusual with the results.
However, that's just me. Most people should test with this method if they choose to take an interest in adrenal function. I personally believe however accutane runs deeper than this.
Guys i have still low semen volume due to 5 pills (120mg total - 4 days of usage) of accutane. I have also loss of morning erections. But my general erection is ok. 1,5 years is gone now.
Everyone heard the eph95's probiotic and wormwood cure. What you guys think ? what should i do ? is it safe to use with hornygoatweed ?

Hey, how much time did you actually spend in the sun? Because I spent 1-2 hours 5 days in a row and I noticed some really positive effects. For those of us who took accutane for months, it would take consistency beyond a couple days to upregulate vitamin D metabolism. I'm dying to get back out there but the last two days have been clouded/raining.

It's diffuse, definitely TE. I never had any shedding before this and based on my parents and grandparents I shouldn't be prone to go balding. And even if I were to lose some hair I wouldn't be like this before reaching 40 or something.
I don't really consider my scalp to be itchy of inflamed at all, and I don't see nothing wrong with my skin, it's just oily as it's always been. I've been to two doctors and a dermatologist in the past 7 months and they all told me the accutane had nothing to do with it and that it wouldn't cause this effect (which I'm really skeptical of) as they've prescribed it multiple times to several patients yada yada. Only one doctor told me that the accutane probably triggered this but that it's still probably a hormonal problem or that I was already gonna lose some hair and I'm just doing it faster.
The mother of a friend of mine took accutane a few years back (she was around 47 at the time) and she experienced quite some hair loss, and then after about 3 years she recovered her hair naturally just like that. I've read some people saying they've never regained hair after years, but also some people saying they did after 6 or 8 years, which is what gives me some hope. I've read recommendations for bumping up my daily biotin dose, taking milk thistle phytosome and changing my diet, and maybe do a liver flush, as my liver and bile flow might still be affected by the accutane. Has anyone gone by this?

Ill just do an overview as this can contrast between what was and what is, easier.
After Accutane:
Stutter/stammer (tripping over words)
Depression
Social Anxiety
Anxiety
Bleeding gums
Memory loss (long term/short term)
Brain fog -Inability to think through any simple problem - perhaps depersonalization as a result - learning difficulties
No beard growth
Muscle aches
Psoriasis (winter on face, scalp and calves extensively)
ED
0 Libido - Thoughts never entered my mind, even when opportunities where right in front of me
Eye floaters - I somewhat put this down to milk thistle as thats when I noticed them develop, however it may have triggered something else, not sure
Decreased energy - inability to be social
Current:
Bleeding gums
Moderate memory loss - however no where as bad (30% etc)
Brain fog - again no where as bad (20%)
No beard growth
Eye floaters
Decreased energy - Slowly getting better

Like me, you have about 30 different problems going on all at once. That's the hardest thing cause just when you think you've got one issue covered you're reminded that you've got to address the other problems!
One thing that I do agree on with doctors is, you can only treat the symptoms post accutane - what else can you do when no one knows the clear definition of what's gone wrong, hence why we are all on this board sharing info and trying our best to work our problems out for ourselves - what else can we do!?
Can I ask how you feel about your gut health? Do you get acid reflux, do you believe your immune system has been altered ??

Gut health was weak after tane. Passing wind all the time. Like 50 times a day lol. And they were rank. That has since gone, No acid reflux. My immune system seems to be strong, have dealt with having a few colds around me in personal and work life and am feeling fine. Haven't been sick in a long time myself. However I still believe gut flora is linked. Seems to be that once other problems are dealt with, the gut can be addressed.

ive pretty much taken every brand of ppi including lansoprazole(not on any atm but considering going back on nexium otc.) I would say its safe to try at least short term if that is what your concerned about, at least to see if it helps. start with the lowest dose. if you have any discomfort in your throat this could be a different type of reflux known as lpr for short.my throat has been looked at three times now both by an ent and gastrologist. ent diagnosed me with lpr due to red swollen larynx and gastro dr diagnosed me with eosinophilic esophagitis which he also wanted to treat with a double dose ppi.
They are a double edged sword though because they can cause some dehydration which can lead to further muscle weakness and are little bit drying. just the opposite of what we need of course. but id have to say are almost necessary for anyone with serious reflux issues. you could try something less potent like tums first maybe to see if that gives you any sort of relief.

well all i would say is have a game plan of what you want to tell him. and be prepared that he might be no help at all. unfortunately just like haniaD was saying, Drs look at us and think we are healthy. Ive come to the point where im basically just using doctors for the different test i know they can run, to rule things out. ive pretty much had all the gastro test, short of a liver ultrasound and biopsy. i actually just had a ct scan of my liver, pancreas, gall bladder, stomach ect. nothing remarkable of course. and it cost me 500 bucks and a slightly higher risk for cancer. Awesome.

Yeah im the same, I just use a GP to get some blood tests and referels, beyond that, they just don't have a clue.
I remember when I first went to see a doctor about my problems and he said I just need to take Vit c - that was it. I ended up jumping around from doctor to doctor over the years, even went back to see a doctor that my parents took me too as a child - none of them know what to do. Told one about the eye floaters and he said it's just an age thing - I was 27
Wouldnt it be refreshing if you went to a new doctor about issues and they said - " I don't have a clue what accutane has done to you, but I do believe you".
You cant even see a psychiatrist, what can they offer? "oh this will pass", yeah right when??
I've been there, just can't go back, refuse to repeat myself!!

Yeah, I can see we all have the same problem with the doctors. My blood work showed raised potassium levels, but my GP said the level was most likely to have changed in the transport from the clinic to the hospital where they test the blood, so I guess I'm fine again...
I can't fu...ing sleep at night as my limbs are going from numb to heavy to burning hot, I have shortness of breath, my heart skips and jumps (among others), but maybe it's just stress as I'm frustrated it's not going anywhere.
I get the same 'treatment' at home. It's most likely my herbal teas, strange healthy diet and all those crazy supplement that I take that cause all my issues as the liver is the most forgiving organ and it regenerates, so it is impossible for me to feel the way I feel after accutane.
P.S. Sorry for the self-pity here, I know this forum is about the recovery, but 'getting things out' makes me feel better already:)

His belief was that God would cure him of AIDS. I'm prob not as spiritual as him and yet he believed he'd be cured, obviously that didn't happen....
Maybe be that's our only hope - to pray to God for a cure. What else can we do??
