I took one course of low dose (10mg)Isotretinoinand it has completely messed up my digestive system (I can't toleratefat and fructose anymore). Two weeks later I have noticed much brighter stools (common symptom of fat malabsorbtion). Myliver enzymes were in thenormal range during the whole treatment (apart from slightly elevated bilirubin). I have tried various supplements, probiotics, antibiotics, diet modifications etc.with miserable results. At this point, I am preety sure that Isotretinoin has induced some sort of allergic reaction to certain foods (i.e.fructose intolerance)via itsimmunomodulating properties. I am also consideringsmall intestinal bacterial overgrowthbecause Isotretinoincan cause variations in the microbial floras of several sites of the body.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

Your bile flow is compromised. You probably have thick bile or gallstones. Taurine, Glycine, and Phosphatidylcholine can help.

Glytamins will also help, though I have no personal experience with them.

My treatment of choice for myself is liver flushes & coffee enemas which help to clear out the biliary tree of stones & sludge.

Don't waste time testing or trying to treat SIBO. If you do have it, it's because of poor bile flow. There's a study somewhere that shows that when bile flow is shut off SIBO occurs but when it starts working again, SIBO disappears. It has to do with bile's alkalinizing effect on the small GI (which inhibits microbial growth and proliferation).

IMPORTANT

Is there a new forum being created specifically for discussing accutane side effects? This would be invaluable. This SINGLE thread is too disorderly. I'm worried that it may shut down at some point and we will all be lost from each other. Perhaps users here could trade email accounts in the meantime.

Yeah 5 alpha reductase is our Main Problem (think propecia, many symptoms are the Same). I have forgot to say that this Summer i have tried real proviron and it does Not work! I even felt more fatigue. I say it all days what we need is Igf-1 witch induces all Organs that Produce hormones to make more of them and to metabolize them via skin. It inhabits foxo like nothing other can Do.

Wanna add, that I feel good on supplemental lithium (It lowers FoxO3). Starteed today and noted energy increase maybe placebo after that short time. I also reccomend to take Algae oil witch only contains DHA not EPA. EPA is not good for us, because it has shown to increase FoxO3. DHA lowers FoxO1. Have buyd some DHA only (from Algea oil). I will say you how I feel on my regime. ..

Update on taurine. Noticed today that my hair and skin seem a bitless dry.
Also noticed a bit of pain under my sternum briefly today, which is something I had for a couple of monthswhen I finished taking accutane. Thinking it might be liver/gallbladder related?

Does anyone here suffer from really bad sweating? Before accutane I hardly ever sweat but now, on a hot day I can feel sweat dripping down my back and stomach.

Is that good or bad? Does it mean my body is trying to push accutane out?

its called TEWL. its bad. basically your skin is damaged and cannot hold onto its water anymore.

Could be bile reflux. Taurine may make it worse by increasing bile flow.

Hey guys Ihave an appointment to see a family doctor/ naturalpath who also does hair analysis. Going to get my hair tested to see vitamin or mineral deficiency. Hopefully it will give me an insight to what's happening in my body.

This isn't until January tho, I had to go on the waiting list, 3 month wait! Heard he is very good. Will update if I find anything that might be useful to you guys

Make sure you get the one from Trace Elements Lab. It's the best. They don't wash the hair specimens, they test for a WIDE variety of things, and the format used in the report is easily understood.Go to liveto110.com or drwilson.com to learn more about nutritional balancing.

Getting a hair mineral analysis is highly beneficial but it won't cure you of accutane side effects. It's not checking for retinoic acid metabolites.

For those of you who feel better after drinking alcohol.... logically it would mean we have too much of something

.......

Alcohol Because both retinol and ethanol are alcohols, there is potential for overlap in the metabolic pathways of these two compounds. Competition with each other for similar enzymatic pathways has been reported (Leo and Lieber, 1999), while other retinol and alcohol dehydrogenases show greater substrate specificity (Napoli et al., 1995). Ethanol consumption results in a depletion of hepatic vitamin A concentrations in animals (Sato and Lieber, 1981) and in humans (Leo and Lieber, 1985). Although the effect on vitamin A is due, in part, to hepatic damage (Leo and Lieber, 1982) and malnutrition, the reduction in hepatic stores is also a direct effect of alcohol consumption. Patients with low vitamin A stores, in the study by Leo and Lieber (1982), were otherwise well nourished. Furthermore, the reduction in hepatic vitamin A stores was reduced before the onset of fibrosis or cirrhosis of the liver (Sato and Lieber, 1981). Results suggest that vitamin A is mobilized from the liver to other organs (Mobarhan et al., 1991) with ethanol consumption. Chronic ethanol intake resulted in increased destruction of retinoic acid through the induction of P450 enzymes, resulting in reduced hepatic retinoic acid concentrations (Wang, 1999).

Typically, the majority of vitamin A metabolites are excreted in the urine. Sauberlich et al. (1974) reported that the percentage of a radioactive dose of vitamin A recovered in breath, feces, and urine ranged from 18 to 30 percent, 18 to 37 percent, and 38 to 60 percent, respectively, after 400 days on a vitamin A-deficient diet. Almost all of the excreted metabolites are biologically inactive. Retinol is metabolized in the liver to numerous products, some of which are conjugated with glucuronic acid or taurine for excretion in bile (Sporn et al., 1984). The portion of excreted vitamin A metabolites in bile increases as the liver vitamin A exceeds a critical concentration. This increased excretion has been suggested to serve as a protective mechanism for reducing the risk of excess storage of vitamin A (Hicks et al., 1984). Body Stores The hepatic vitamin A concentration can vary markedly depending on dietary intake. When vitamin A intake is adequate, over 90 percent of total body vitamin A is located in the liver (Raica et al., 1972) as retinyl ester (Schindler et al., 1988), where it is concentrated in the lipid droplets of perisinusoidal stellate cells (Hendriks et al., 1985).

For anyone wanting some basic simple diet/supplement recommendations

All the nutrients (a, b's, c, d3, k2, all the minerals)

Taurine, glycine, creatine

100-150g protein

150-250g carbs

60-100g fat

30-50g fiber

Follow this diet if you can: [removed]

Enough omega 3 from wild fish or cod liver oil or some high quality fish oil supplement

I use MultiMin from nutricology for minerals, coral calcium and magnesium calm for magnesium/calcium. Iodine is important as well

Zinc boosts testosterone, you could try optizinc on top of the multimin

Essential amino acids can be good

Grape seed extract for blood flow

Garlic (food) for blood flow

B-Right by Jarrow for B vitamins + MethylB12 sublingual by jarrow that u put under tongue

D3/K2 drops by Thorne Research

Find a cod liver oil that has vitamin E in it, then you dont need to supplement vit A or E..

Drink lots of water, get a filter if you can. Take electrolytes. I like these ones: (also has vitamin C so u dont need extra vit C)www.iherb.com/NutriBiotic-Essential-Electrolytes-100-Vegan-Capsules/5452(take like 3-5 a day)

You could try BCAA or EAA and see if that makes u feel better

Try n acetyl l tyrosine or mucuna for dopamine boost and see if that boosts erections

Dark chocolate or cacao nibs increase blood flow

Yerba mate improves blood flow

Licorice root helps me with more penis bloodflow (it also is a potent anti inflammatory by raising cortisol)

Longvida curcumin (Curcubrain by NOW) is good to lower inflammation

PQQ and MitoQ is great for oxidative stress

Blueberries and other fruits/veg is also good for anti oxidant properties

You could try liposomal glutathione but its super expensive..

Inositol works for OCD/anxiety

D-chiro-inositol works for insulin resistance

NAC works for OCD and liver health

Methylation can be a huge fix but also mess you up if your body isnt "ready" for it: Methylfolate, sublingual methylb12, SAM-e and TMG + l-carnitine fumarate and adenosylb12 (co enzyme b12) sublingual

Google Freddd's protocol. There a huge FAQ about it on howirecovered.com

@trytohelp2014 - those alcohol/retinol studies are pretty interesting. I'm pretty that when I've been drinking excessively my night vision returns as well, although I'm not absolutely 100% on this. If I go out on NYE I'm going to make a point of testing this the following day(standing in a dark bathroom, where I would normally have zero night vision).

Also regarding TUDCA/UDCA (I've tried using TUDCA at 600mg/day for a time, and it definitely helped mental clarity quite significantly), however it's an expensive supplement, but this study states that 600ui of vitamin E and 500mg of vitamin C per day was as effective as UDCA in reducing liver enzymes (study was looking at patients with fatty liver disease)

Vitamin E plus C combination treatment is a safe, inexpensive and effective treatment option in patients with fatty liver disease, with results comparable to those obtained with ursodeoxycholic acid [UDCA]

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16245220

Also following on from that Vitamin C actually looks like it has quite a few benefits to the liver. I'm not sure if anyone has ever tried taking quite a high dose for a period?

Vincent Zannoni at the University of Michigan Medical School has shown that vitamin C protects the liver. Even doses as low as500 milligrams daily helps prevent fatty buildup and cirrhosis. 5,000 mg of vitamin C per day appears to actually flush fats from the liver.(Ritter, M. "Study Says Vitamin C Could Cut Liver Damage," Associated Press, October 11, 1986) And vitamin C over 50,000 mg/day (not a misprint) results in patients feeling better in just a few days, and actually eliminates jaundice in under a week.(Cathcart, Robert F. III (1981)

Thats a lot of vitamin c to take, what about the acidic nature of it? Or maybe take the non acid ones. Didn't someone on here mention they took heaps of vit c for a couple of years and it didn't do jack?

Its interesting that the article mentions one study where 50g per day of Vit C was taken and yielded improvements, Im pretty sure nobody on the thread has taken a dose that high, at least as far as I know.

I think the most relevant is that Vit C + E alone can reduce liver triglyceride levels (although the study posted above was over a 6 month period), and its well documented that accutane raises these levels. Quick google;

  • Users of a top-selling acne drug appear to have "substantial increases" in serum triglyceride and total cholesterol levels as well as liver transaminase levels

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/788668

Actually interesting that the above article actually includes some suggestions to alleviate the increases in lipids;

  • "Recommendations for managing isotretinoin-associated increases in lipids are directed first at dietary changes, such as reducing intake of simple carbohydrates, saturated fat, and alcohol, and replacing those calories with whole grains, vegetables, nuts, and fish.Exercise also is helpful for improving insulin sensitivity, as is caloric restriction to achieve a normal body weight."

This is interesting too, however I don't know anyone in my family at all who is diabetic

  • According to Stein, patients with insulin resistance, family histories of insulin resistance, or type 2 diabetes mellitus or with certain apolipoprotein E isoforms (E2 and E4) are especially at risk of lipid changes while taking this drug

If you want info on vitamin C look up the lecture on youtube by Suzanne Humphries.

@tryingtohelp2014THANK YOU for your post! That was a fantastic find!

What is your opinion of liver flushing? Surely you must think it's a viable option seeing that 90% of vitamin A seems to be stored in the liver and the studies you referenced indicate that we may have a retinoic acid toxicity issue due to the alcohol ingestion improvements connection? You may want to take alook at one of my previous posts as well which finds the same thing: we are toxic in retinoic acid.

Doing a liver flush in less than five hours... Will see how it goes. It's my 7th one.

@trantran83333Are you going to do more of them? It's an excellent healing modality.

Does anyone have any inkling as to how long it will take for taurine to get rid of the remaining accutane in our systems - I'm not having much luck finding anything that would give me an idea.I've already started seeing some results so I thought it might not take that long to sort it out completely. But either way I'll probably stay on it for a few months at least.

i was reading on a bodybuilding forum ( they really know their shit) where one guy has been taking 15 grams of taurine per day 3x 5 grams per day) for a month. it apparently increase your testosterone 180%. he feels he was saturated at 1 month, and the beneficial side effects lasted another 2-3 months.

Ah that's an interesting find, thanks. Had this guy been on accutane or was he taking it just for the testosterone increase?

I wonder if when we get rid of the accutane stored in us by taking taurine and we return to our "normal" state (as we were prior to taking accutane), if we need to take any again. I mean ideally once we get it all out things will go back to how they were before (once our bodies have healed that is). And wiith this guy he might have already been in a condition that we're aiming to be inand taking the taurine elevated him above his "normal" state, which is why the benefits stopped after a few months. I know thatisn't a very scientific way of putting things but I hope my point is getting across lol.

I wanna ask you, if your ED is cured not only temporary. After I have read your post about DHEA and Pregnenolone. So now i wanna try it too. My question, if you have tried both DHEA and Pregnenolone or if you only have taken DHEA (Maybe DHEA is enough). I hope I can cure I love a girl and it would be great if I can fix this fucking shit that tane has done to me..

(My T raised a lot since accutane reduced it and i supplemented DHEA for a few months and i have the ability to have sex 4-5 times daily now, where as after accutane i could not do it once in a year. Couldnt even get it up with viagra/cialis. Now i never touch anything to help with libido/ED. I mean this post from you)

I went through 2 kilograms of vitamin C in 2 years

And a few hundred grams of liposomal in a couple months

Didnt improve anything that i know of.

I never used pregnenolone and DHEA did not boost my T, it boosted my proven low DHEA serum levels..

T just returned over the years when my body had all the building blocks needed and lack of inflammation n such..

Theres no magic supplement to fix testo

Only getting all the building blocks, HCG, clomid, nolvadex and if all that fails, testosterone injections (I have never tried any of those drugs)

DHEA might not have had anything to do with my libido being good, but its not good to have low levels so i took it for health reasons..

ok so it looks like alot of people have had hair loss(that never came back) from high dose b5 used to treat acne. works in the same way as accutane by shutting down oil production and greatly reducing sebum. numerous people have stated that supplementing with l- cysteine eventually helped regrow their hair.human hair is 13% cysteine.L-cysteine is also used as possible sjogren's treatment, has an effect on collagen and moistens mucus membranes also meaning the eyes. It aids in producing taurine and alsoglutathione, the bodies most powerful antioxidant.

There is also alot of interaction with insulin and its growth factors.

L-cysteine is required for cross linking with the insulin receptor, it has a binding affinity. it is a required protein for igf-1. just dont have time to piece it all together atm. just another road to go down...
