So i basically have been using proactiv for many years, and about 5 months ago stopped. Really havent broken out much from it since stopping. Its worked well , but the problem was is that the BP left scaring on my cheeks from the last bad break out i had in september. Basically the red spots that are smooth to the touch but annoying to look at lol. At least when its not freeezing out and spring or summer you can tan a lil bit and you cant see them but as of right now i cnt. My derm prescribed me Finacea to use , cuz he said its good for that kinda stuff. Ive read many reviews and honestly most have been great, nothing really negative. Either it worked great , or didnt work for others. Nothing really bad. The thing that freaks me out is because i read one or 2 reviews on the web how people got hypopigmentation from using it. Also says it on the instructions.

So is this something to really be concerned about it? Or is it safe enough to use, and rarely happens?

I know alot of you have used it , so id just like to know what your take is. Should i man up? lol

Thanks guys.

Also i like to tan outside maybe once a week in the summer, would i not be able to use this while doing that? I know summer is like 6 months away and hopefully i wont have to use it this long but its just a secondary question.

Again , Thanks

Never used Finacea before, but...

Have you tried Mederma Scar Cream? It worked amazingly on my acne scars and has SPF to prevent further damage from the sun. The only real downside was that older ones took a bit longer, but new ones heal insanely fast.

Hyperpigmentation isn't permanent, so to begin with I wouldn't consider that a negative side effect. Almost any acne medication will leave you with that temporarily.

I used it for a while and had no side effects. As time went on it became less effective, but it perhaps cleared up red marks (hyperpigmentation) even faster than other products.

I say give it a chance and good luck! =)

My derm put me on it to help with redmarks and what I have noticed is that it works well on new red marks but not so good on the older ones. I use benzaclin twice a day so I havent tried to use the finacea for anything else than the red marks but my derm said I should try to apply it to my chin area at night since I tend to breakout there the most. Keep us updated on your progress.

Well the cream was working well for the scars but i still was getting some acne , so he put me on Benzamycin in the morning , and the finacea at night. He wanted me to take an antibiotic pill along with those 2 for a month but i didnt fill the script cuz i dont wanna do that. Besides, the Benzamycin has an antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide mixed together. Only negative is that its cold putting it on my face cuz you need to put in the fridge lol. Used proactiv for years with great results so hopefully the benzoyl in this will work as well.

Btw it seems like this will really dry me out though this combination. Im sure its safe but im a pessimist. Does this sound right 2 you what he has me doing? I mean hes a really good derm.

I'd be careful with any retinoids...those things can be deadly depending on the person and unfortunately you never know how you will react unless you sacrifice yourself as you said-the Guinea pig

Finacea isn't a retinoid, it's Azaleic acid

Oh! You are right, so sorry, I get it confused with differin/adapalene.
