I've been on ACZONE for about a month now. My derm gave me a bunch of free samples, I just went back on Monday, and she gave me a bunch more. I might be getting a prescription depending on whether or not insurance will help pay. It's GREAT stuff, and I've been clearing consistantly over the past month. I hear full results in 12 weeks.. so two more months. They have a website if you guys care to check it out.. nothing too great on there though. It really calms your face and doesn't leave you greasy, for me anyway.. and hasn't dried me out.
I use cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (the bar) because its a real good lather and am on 100mg of doxy and thats it. I use the Aczone in the morning and at night. I always try to wash at 730 when I get up for work and 730 at night, take the pills at the same time as well.. seems to be workinh.
I've been using Aczone for a month now. Here's my report:
So far, there has been a SLIGHT reduction in active pimples on my face. It has reduced the black head mine field on my nose which is strange because it supposedly only works for inflammatory acne.
The best thing about Aczone for me is that it reduces the redness of active pimples by A TON.
I'm hoping in another couple weeks I will have more positive results.
It is expensive and not much comes in a tube.
I recommend that everyone gives it a try.
i have been on aczone for 2 weeks now and honestly im amazed at how much its helped already! i am seeing less bumps and it has reduced the reddness. i dont know if this will help anyone but i do think aczone is working for me. I have had moderate acne, and i have been on differen and doxycylin and neither of those have worked. my fingers are crossed that this aczone will continue to clear up my skin!
it has only been a week since I started using Aczone (a.m. and p.m.) and I'm worse than ever. I'm really hoping this is one of those "has to get worse before it gets better" things... I have VERY painful cystic acne localized on my forehead. Dr. and Derm both haven't been able to figure out why I only seem to get it on that part of my face, and I'm definitely sick of the mystery as well. Idk what to do. I feel like aczone isn't going to work in 12 weeks if it's only made things WORSE in a week. very sad....and hopeless
Have been on Aczone (am) Taz and Duac PM for almost a year. I have not used aczone in about a month. I put it on today cause i was told it will kill infections on the skin. I use it go tonight to wash my face off about 9pm, and looks like my forehead is a mine field. Lil bumps ect in it almost looks like a reaction. I put the taz/duac combo and an now ready for bed.
I still get bumps here and there after a year.
Almost at the 2 week mark for Aczone
I'm 23/F who just started a major breakout of pustules on my forehead, and derm prescribed me Aczone along with Bactrim, but I'm too scared to take the Bactrim so I'm letting Aczone do most of the work. Occasionally I will also use sodium sulfacetamide and also tea tree oil to spot treat, but what I have to say about the Aczone is this:
It's really not that drying, which is good. It hasn't really reduced my number of breakouts, and in fact I think I have seen more, except they don't get quite as inflamed. I have yet to experience the reduction in redness and number of breakouts as some of you have experienced, so overall, I'm not sure if this product is working for me. I don't wanna go buy it bc I've heard it gets really expensive, so I'm gonna put that off until I actually see some results.
Am I using it wrong, or am I just unlucky?
I've been on aczone for 2 years with differin .3%.
This stuff is a godsend.
I currently have only one pimple, and have had less breakouts for about a year. I'm still on it, though, because I am a teenager and still getting pesky breakouts due to stress, periods, etc. Hormonal stuff.
It's only $27 with my parent's insurance for a 60g tube (they increased the size) so it's not too pricey, but that's with blue cross blue shield's helping out- haha. If you can't afford it, I'd suggest asking your dermatologist for a bunch of samples and ask for some coupons.
This stuff is just amazing, honestly. Dries out my pimples in 4 days tops. Scarring is only temporary and fades pretty quickly (that's just me though, my skin scars easily)
If you're skeptical of this, ask your derm for samples and try it out. This stuff has been amazing for me!

I've also started aczone about a month ago, and have not seen any significant improvement. Like you, my skin has actually gotten worse. Lots of small bumps and even more breakouts on the side of my face, forehead, and chin.
Was wondering, did you make it through the 12 weeks? If so, did your skin get better?
I don't know if i should stick with this or not...
I am using Aczone now. Not sure if we have the same kind of case but I am in my 30s and have chin acne. The rest of my face is clear but my chin is covered with cystic acne. My Derm thinks it is hormonal but even when on birth control, I still got the same kind of acne (but not as many). It has come back almost worse than it has ever been.
I have been on Doxycycline (Doryx 150) for 3 weeks now and just started the Aczone a week ago. It is a MIRACLE. Within 2 days the redness and inflammation were almost gone. No stinging after the first application. I have been on it a week 2x per day and my chin is quickly healing. No new acne and the ones that were there for 3-4 weeks (even on the Doxy) are markedly less inflamed and I would say are almost gone.
I was very skeptical about this drug as it is new (in the topical form at least) but it has worked better than anything else I have used (retin-A, Tazorac, benzaclin, Clindamycin topical, etc). And no side effects. Other than the normal moisturizer ( I have been using Jason's Aloe on my chin), I have had no peeling or dryness.
Hope this info helps.
I have never read a post of acne.org that describes my situation perfectly. My face is exactly like yours...I'm also in my 30's, only chin acne, random cysts, i think it's hormonal even though i'm on birth control and my derm says it's controlling my hormones perfectly (Yaz 28) - no clue what's causing it. My derm just gave me Aczone (dapsone 5%) and i'm hoping it works well for me since you had great results with it.
One question - do you put on all over your chin? or more like a spot treatment? I have used it for only 1 day and noticed that it really drys out my skin - do you use a moisturizer with it? I haven't as yet but was curious if you have. Really glad you posted the above. thank you.
