My hair has been shedding like NO tomorrow these past few months I'm only 21 and I'm scared im going to go bald at this rate!! My ponytail has nearly halfed its size. I thought it was seasonal at first but its just not stopping, I wear a hat in the cold weather, I've switched to organic nourishing shampoo's and conditioners and STILL it sheds! I know perfectly well how much hair loss is normal daily but its not normal when you can see the colour of your head in your hairbrush. I realized I have a lot of buildup because I would scratch my head and see lots of white stuff under my nails.. then I realized that could be related to my hairloss. Then I looked this up and I'm pretty sure its the cause... my hair hasn't been getting enough nutrients (and most likely oxygen) with the thick layer of build up I have. Oh my god I hope this is really the answer, its the only thing that makes sense. Im going to make the brown sugar scrub with the molasses and papaya enzymes, and follow up with a apple cider vinegar infused with burdock root and nettle leaves rinse. & Once this hair shedding stops its time to regrow the hair.. well this time ill make sure I have supple blood flow to the scalp via the brown sugar massages and be sure to take my vitamin D and fish oil supplements to ensure thicker stronger hair grows in. This post has really opened up my eyes about the danger of buildup, and I thought I knew about hair care. Thank you all so, so much, seriously, and best of luck to you and your hair. Treat your hair like its a fine silk- one of the best pieces of hair advice (in addition to this one) I have ever come across.
The jojoba oil was amazing at removing my scalp build up.
Whats the best and cheapest place to order it on the internett??.
The only place i could get it was at a health food an hour away from where I live. And it was $8.00 for 2 little itty bitty ounces . Ive been using it 3 days and half is already gone.

I had a hairdresser tell me that if you naturally have fine thin hair, the longer you grow it, the more it sheds.. BUT I have had this condition for MANY years, so maybe that is my problem...
I don't know if anyone else is experiencing this, but I have a crusty buildup on my scalp that I just can't seem to get rid of. I also have a moderate amount of dandruff. I have been off accutane for a year now and this seems to have developed post-accutane. The crusty buildup is hardened sebum and can cause your hair follicles to become clogged and die = hair loss. I've tried so many different shampoos with various chemicals that all seem to dry out my scalp and make the crustyness/ hairloss worse!
Here's what to do:
1. buy 100% pure jojoba oil (from health food store)
[several hours before you shower...]
2. Apply several tablespoons of pure oil directly to scalp (dry hair)
3. Turn head upside down and give yourself a very gentle scalp massage to increase blood flow to the area
4. Put on a shower cap
5. Blow dry outside of shower cap to heat up oil
6. Let the oil sit for at least 1 hour, if crustyness is really bad you may want to leave on the oil for longer (maybe even overnight and then wash out in the morning)
7. Shampoo with a very gentle shampoo, like baby shampoo, just something that won't further irritate your scalp
- it won't be necessary to use a conditioner but if the ends of your hair are dry just use it there
This is the regimen I have been following for 6 days now and my scalp is smooth and no longer itchy, no more crustyness! AFter the first day or two I noticed more dandruff which was probably just the crust flaking off. Most of it was gone by day 3/4. Give it a try! It really pays to use natural ingrediants and not all of those irritating chemicals.
Usually I only wash my hair every other day, but I've been using this regimen every day in an effort to remove the buildup and its working!!
Another thing you can do is apply it on a weekend day when you will be home.. To keep it warm put on your shower cap, and THEN wrap a towel around your head, or put on a winter cap, bandanna, or scarf.. This will keep things nice n warm..
I have had this problem on and off for over 20 years now.. Usually get it at the same back of head location babies get it (cradle scalp). It does not itch, I just notice I have these places of buildup on my scalp, and it annoys me so I pick at it... I never put my thinner hair and my current loss as a part of it, especially lately since I lost my job and have had some health and hormone issues; all of which can be associated with hair loss..
But the stuff on my scalp drives me insane... It does not matter if I shampoo daily, every other day, or more, it is still there.. The shampoo does not make a difference either.. All I know is the loss of hair, and the build up has got stop... I plan on trying this blend to see how it works.. I always use Tea Tree Oil, I have it in my shampoo.. And I add extra for cleaning.. I am not fond of their statement that it cannot be cured and can only be managed.. Also did not like the pics I saw online of how BAD it can get... So before I lose more hair, I am going to attempt to stop it..
Here is something another site has to say:
Crusty scalp and hair loss are related to each other as hair fall is common due to crusty scalp. Tea tree oil can be used as a natural remedy for reducing the itching and also the white flakes and it reduces hair fall. Tea tree oil is known for its anti-septic, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties. Read more on tea tree shampoo.
Another crusty scalp remedy is using aloe vera haircare products. You can rub aloe vera gel on your crusty scalp and keep it for 10-15 minutes. Then wash your hair properly with a shampoo. You can also apply few drops of lemon juice in warm coconut oil and massage on your scalp slowly and gently in circular motion. Let the oil be on your hair for two hours. Rinse your hair with a mild shampoo. Read on itchy scalp home remedy.
I tried using a good scalp scrub with hair friendly oil and sea salt... I was MORTIFIED at the amount of hair that fell off.. But after doing it and drying my hair, I did not notice a lot of fall out on my hair towel, and have not noticed as much falling out when I touch it, or just falling in general.. The salt obviously irritated my scalp, but it did get the stuff off... I would NOT at this point recommend this method, but I will see how things go tomorrow.. Maybe doing oil on hair and leaving it on for the day, and then using sea salt n oil scrub to get the now loose stuff off..
This is some info from other sites:
I get these too, mine are like hard crusty scabs. I just wet my hair and put like a bottle of cheapo conditioner mixed with some tea tree oil on and leave for a good couple of hours, then rinse out.
The scabs go, my hair is shiny and wonderfully conditioned.
The *very* best thing I've found to eliminate it? Giovanni Triple Tea Tree Shampoo, applied and left to soak on my scalp while I finish my shower. It gets rid of it everytime. Something about the tea tree oil.
Maybe it will help you as well?
The things that have helped me most are vinegar rinses, honey, and Rhassoul (in descending order). Vinegar definitely "resets" my scalp chemistry, while honey soothes and calms the itching, and Rhassoul seemed to clean "deeply" but I was worried that it damaged my fine hair.
Things that are bad are stress, eating sugar, and touching my scalp. Brushing, "scritching", scalp massaging, or combing the scalp can all make SD/flakies/itchies worse if it is flaring up.
My son (who is now 9) has had it for years. The doctor even prescribed stuff for it, which didn't work. Neither did any shampoo on the market. A few weeks ago I started him on CV Neem and Tea Tree Shampoo Bars, and his scalp is almost completely clear......go figure. He is ecstatic. He comes home after school, saying......"My head didn't itch all day!"
I had a dramatic improvement with Ktani's catnip rinse.
Try Grandpa's brand pine tar bar soap. It has almost completely cured my son (with continued use). It has been wonderful for him because it has been so bad for years we've tried everything from the doctor. Son is allergic to SLS so tried the bar -- perfect choice.
diluted a whole bottle with about 4-5 ounces of water in a hair dye bottle. I applied it to just the scalp and massaged it in 3x a week the night before I would wash my hair the next morning. One bottle diluted like this would last for 2-3 weeks. I use the cheap generic 2% MN from Dollar General. This type can cause greasies which the name brand does not seem to which is the reason why I needed to wash it before leaving the house, but others who have used the name brand did not ge the greasies so they would use it for longer time periods.
My growth rate at least doubled with the MN as well. I went from 1/2 inch a month to well over an inch a month.
I use the MN for about 3 weeks (or the length of time that it takes to finish the bottle) and then I take about 3 weeks off.
It has worked better on my SD and cystic scalp acne than anything else that I have tried be it homeopathic or prescription.

This site explains the issue pretty well for my problem:

This does not make me happy, as I am already having neurological issues:
Seborrheic dermatitis has also been linked to neurologic disorders such as Parkinson's disease and epilepsy. The reason for this relationship isn't known.

I don't want to get my hopes up too soon, but I found your post through Google and tried it last night. The effects were immediate! Only a tiny amount of... stuff... under my fingernails when I scraped my scalp, and a LOT less oily when I woke up in the morning. Normally I take a shower at night and by morning it's oily. Hopefully this continues to work! I did want to ask, how long do you usually blow dry the outside of the shower cap?
I hope I can help someone out there that has suffered with the "crusty spot" syndrome on their scalp. I developed this condition almost over night and after reading about it and trying shampoo's with "Salicylic Acid 3.0%" and no relief, a Pharmacist reccomended that I try a product called "Nizoral" with the active ingredient "Ketoconazole 1.0%".......much to my delight this cleared up the condition almost immediately !! My scalp does not itch anymore and the soreness and redness are healing !! If you can't find it in a drug store Amazon sells it.....a bit pricey at about $10.00 a bottle but well worth it. The spots are caused by a fungus which Ketoconazole kills effectively. I never had this problem till I used a hair gel by Scwartzkopf called "Got-to-be-Glued"....I noticed when ever some would spill out of the tube and dry on my vanity top I would have an awful time getting it off.....can't imagine what that junk does to your scalp......Peace....Out.......
