I try to be optimistic but at this point 2 years down the line still losing hair the way I do with no regrowth in sight is just to much to take. I havent heard of anyone losing hair this long that goes into remission.

Its not like I can just shave my head and be cool with it. Its worn be down the point I just cant bare it anymore.

I'm in the same position as you are. It's been three years and my hair is still thinned all over and hairline receded about almost an inch.

After relentless research, it seems that there is no treatment available. Some literature says that chronic telogen effluvium can last up to 9 years before it resolves, but that seems more like a guess than a real number.

It's rather surprising that there isn't more data on this issue considering how old of a drug accutane is.

I heard the emu oil may help in telogen effluvium by kicking some follicles into anagen phase but the evidence seems just anecdotal so far. I may try emu oil someday since I did read some good things about it and it doesn't seem to bear negative side effects.

Please do update this thread if anyone finds anything that works. Good luck everyone.

Guys, after 3 months of Roccutane i decided to drop it. Too much for me to handle in terms of hairloss and IBS. Guess its between a choice of hair or skin for me.

Stay strong, bro! I'm sure that your hair will bounce back to its original thickness in no time :) As for your skin, 3 months on accutane is in some cases a full course so you might be pleasantly surprised with the overall results, regardless of the fact that you've dropped the course. How is your skin right now?

Thanks mate. Skin is doing alright now just some slight scars left. Its just that i am rather disappointed i gotta stop the course cause the first round i did Accutane i am perfectly alright as compared to now. But i would just liked to find out since i am dropping accutane after 3 months, is it alright to take vitamins containing Biotin and slight amounts of Vitamin A? Btw i shaved my hair also.

I'm no expert but if I were you I would stay away from Vitamin A for some time. You know that accutane is partly huge amounts of Vitamin A that could be toxic to your body. Many suspect that the reason for this hairloss is Vitamin A toxicity. As for Biotin, I believe that it is ok to take it during and after your course. Also, you could consider taking flaxseed. Just make sure that you are not taking omega 3 complex (because in many cases it would contain Vitamin A). Many have reported that flaxseed is quite beneficial for hairloss. It is a great aid for your skin, hair, nails, etc. Just make sure you start off slowly with it and then you could increase your dosage for instance each month.

Brave thing you did shaving off your hair, man. I feel for you! I did the same thing 2 months ago, military style :P I said "the hell with it" and shaved it with my trimmer. The shorter you cut it, the stronger it will be. Don't worry, you did the right thing. Now try to relax, don't stress or think about it too much! Try to enjoy yourself and with time things will definitely get better!

Once again - drink tons of water, try to work out as often as possible, eat well and don't skip meals (that also affect your hair), sleep a lot and take naps if you have the time, take supplements in moderation and don't stress about this temporary issue :)

Thanks for your advise mate. Yah shaving off is less of a stressful thing to do. Currently people in singapore are facing too much stress or whatsoever that even guys as young as mid 20s are losing hair. So you think flaxseed is ok? My wife is taking it though.

Yeah, bruv. I believe flaxseed is perfect for this condition for several reasons:

* It does not contain Vitamin A (unless you pick up a specific brand that sells a combo with that vitamin).

* Flaxseed contains omega-3, 6, 9 which are fatty acids and they are stored in our bodies in pretty much the same way as Vitamin A is (being fat soluble). This basically means that you could potentially "replace" the enormous amounts of Vitamin A present in your body with omega fatty acids. (I don't know if this is scientifically proven but I've spoken to a few MDs that told me that this could actually help.)

* Flaxseed has been used as an anti hairloss treatment and this is evident by the numerous articles you could read on the subject around the net.

As for the young men that are losing hair, I agree. After I've started worrying about this problem, I've noticed that a lot of the men I see each day have hairloss problems. I personally think that this is mainly due to pollution and stress. When I thought about it, I decided - "fuck it, I will take a step back and try to be a bit more objective". Stressing about it won't help. Anyways, keep us posted on your progress but try to live and enjoy your life, mate!

Update on my situation. Everything was going great after mesotheraphy. New hairs in temples starts to grow. A lot of them. Small in diamater, but getting longer and longer up to 2cm. But one day thay started to fall. And now almost every one of them has fallen. So mesotheraphy doesn't work for me/ for our problem.

Have anyone tried Elemental analysis of hair? I only checked how many of my hairs are in telogen/anagen phase. I didn't check for micoelements, vitamins in hairs. I check in blood, but i have read that it can be good in blood and bad in hair.

@ redemption2501 - how is your minox theraphy going?

Well, not much is going on. I think I'm getting some new regrowth but I'm not absolutely sure. I'm still shedding so yeah, nothing worth mentioning. Will keep you posted if my condition dramaticall improves.

You mean you are still shedding despite off Accutane? I regretted for jumping into the Accutane bandwidth too early also without even completing my Doxycline. Sigh.looks like Accutane can only suppress Acne for a period. My mum is in her 60s and still she is getting acne. Looks like i am doomed also.

@Raybies

I'm not sure I understand your question. Many of the people posting in this thread are experiencing shedding years after stopping accutane and that includes me as well.

I personally believe that accutane could permanently solve your skin problems and quite a few users have reported that this is the case with them. Of course it depends on several (if not numerous) factors such as general skin condition (mild, moderate, severe acne) prior to your course, drug dosage, period of time taking it and probably (and quite importantly) skin care after stopping it. Some of us get it back and they need a second course but in most cases even if you get a relapse your skin condition will be much milder than what you had previously.

Last but not least, you are not doomed, chin up man! This is your second course, right? You have a very good chance for remission. Keep it positive

Yup but this second course lasted only 3 months before i decided to drop accutane. Hopefully have a good chance of remission. Thanks for the encouragement. Experiencing shedding years after accutane is scary man. But then again I am sure you can pull through it Redemp with your positive mindset. Don worry at most we all shave our heads. haha.

My second course was only a month on low dosage and it helped. My skin cleared entirely 4-5 months after 2nd course. When i stopped taking accutane, i also stopped using any gel on my skin, including soap and others. I clear my face with water without touching my face. It's clear, shinny, smooth and thick smile.png

Hey guys I am new to this forum but I have been reading this forum in particular for about a week now. Redemption; my case is awfully similar to yours. I am 10 months post Accutane and ended my 4-5 month course back in March. I was on 40mg, 60mg, then 80mg for two months. During my course I did not notice much hair loss but once i ended my course I began experiencing shedding and diffuse thinning on my head. I believed that it was just temporary and that it would fade away as accutane would leave my system. Unfortunately it hasn't faded away and not only am i losing hair on my head but I am also experiencing hair loss and thinning all over my body including my eyebrows, legs, arms, and everywhere else except facial hair which is odd to me. Till this day i am losing about 5-10 hairs in the shower and plenty more throughout the day. I am not sure what to do at this point, which supplements to try out and to even speak to my Derm who put me on this because i know she will just tell me its MPB which is really isn't and it is obviously due to the Accutane. I took claravis the generic brand if that means anything. So far my skin has been nice and clear. I do experience minor zits here and there but other than that its bearable and alot better than it was before accutane. This drug has made my life better by clearing up my skin and faded away scars, but it has now left me with the fear of having to shave my head off and live like that forever. I do not blame my Derm but i am angry this side effect isn't explained further to its patients because losing your hair is alot worst than accutane in my opinion. Redemption, you and I have such a similar reaction to this drug which is why I am posting here. I would love to hear how your treating your condition and what you have done. I hope the best for all of us and that we all grow our hair back sooner or later

@Nevergiveup94

My previous first course of Accutane ended in 2007, then during 2008-2009 i experienced hair thinning and hair loss. My family don have Male pattern baldness though, even my derm refused to pin point the problem to accutane which is the cause. Eventually everything resolved by Propecia. Sigh.

Hey man, hello and welcome to the board smile.png Yep, I agree, your condition seems to be pretty similar to what I have. I will jump straight to suggestions:

  • You are already 10 months post accutane. I would say give it another 2 months and then, if your hairloss does not start to improve, jump to minoxidil. It has the potential to kick start your follicules back into an anagen phase which basically means that it could dramatically help with regrowth/shedding. If you plan to do that, make sure not to use a generic minoxidil but a brand that has soothing agents in its product as well. Pure minoxidil could irritate your scalp. If you are not aware of minoxidil this is more or less a topical version of Rogaine (one of the most potent drugs against hairloss). You should apply it directly on your scalp.
  • You could start using a few supplements - flaxseed, biotin, vitamin e, saw palmetto. Flaxseed has been reported to help with hairloss and it's a great addition to one's diet. Biotin (Vitamin H) is very beneficial for hair growth and health. Vitamin E is fat soluble and again is a good aid for your body. Saw Palmetto is somewhat of an unknown supplement when it comes to hairloss - some report that it helps, others say it does not.
  • Invest in and use a high-quality shampoo. I personally use Revita everyday.
  • The usual shit that you could read around the net - exercise and drink tons of water. It's a cliche but regardless it's very true.

That's it basically. I think that we should attack this problem both internally and externally. One would need to invest in the above products and some of them are not cheap. But at the end of the day, we all know what's more important.

Keep us posted on your progress, bruv smile.png I wish you all the best!

P.S. Just wanted to mention if it's not clear, I'm doing exactly what I've suggested (in the 4 points above).

what do you think about using low laser therapy to repair the damages that accutane has done to our hair??

I'm on accutane from 3 mounth and my hair are thinning day after day ......Laser X5 for example can be used whit succes ???

I'm only worried about photosensitivity caused by accutane....

another question : in your unfortunate cases of hair loss ,you Have you noticed a big and persistent drop or just a general thinning of the the all scalp . Cause my derma said that my hair is only thinner and dry so seem less than they are . The hair on the sides (that not fall,generally) have the same consistency as those at the center of the head , but are very very very thin now . Should I be worried or just wait?

Hairs on my sides and back were falling out too. Now they stopped or slow down at least. I am starting to think that no matter what you will try it wont help. I don't want to discourage anyone, but i tried so many things and none of them help even a little. I think that iso causes problem in your body that is so big that you can't do anything about hair loss because the problem is not in hairs or fossils. The problem attacks hairs and fossils, but it is deeper in your body. I think that only time can help. I have less sides effects every week. I am gaining more and more weight which i loss after iso, my bowels are better, i have more energy, i don't get flu or sick, which i used to a lot, my lips and hands are in better condition - and it's winter which is odd, because they should be in terrible condition -, no more insomnias. And one more thing...on iso course i had somekind of cyst on my face - a small one, like head of pencil. I thought it was a pimple and i used gel on it, but nothing happened. I had it for 5-6 months after 1st course and on the 2nd one i noticed it again, different place. It came off last week. So it was 8 months after iso. Anyone recall something like that on himself?

Been almost 3 years since Accutane has touched my body. Still suffering from extreme thin hair and shedding hair all over my body. Fuck this shit. I'm thinking about trying Rogaine but I'm thinking about testing it on my leg hair for few months first because I don't want to it worsen my hair.

I've been using copper peptide and emu oil mix on the hairline. I will let you guys know if I see an improvement.

I have no information about or experience with laser therapy so there is not much I could say about such an approach. Maybe you should ask a dermatologist or MD about that.

@sztuka1988

I disagree. There is plenty that one could do to at least alleviate this condition a little bit. Maybe this won't dramatically change the situation but still, it's better than nothing.

I think that laser terapy can be help the people that notices a thinning of the hair resulting of accutane . I read that this laser therapy ALWAYS made the hair more thick and some have noted a growth . I BELIEVE THAT I will use only AFTER MY CYCLE WITH THE DRUG ACCUTANE WHY i'm SCARED about the photosensitivity caused of accutane

Hey Redemption thanks a lot for your reply and the tips on what i could do to help my condition. I will definitely give your ideas a shot and hopefully something will work for me. Thinning hair and losing hair each day is so stressful and all i can do is imagine what my hair be like X months from now. Sigh* i really hate this guys its really not what i expected from this treatment. I hear form everyone "stay positive and positive things will happen" but reading the posts above really crushes all the hopes i have in my hair growing back.

@Raybies- So your saying propecia grew your hair back? Did the acne return?

Redemption and whomever is on the same boat as us, if you dont mind me asking, how old are you guys and how do you style your hair nowadays? (two unrelated questions lol but i would like to know to relate myself to you guys)

Do you grow it out or keep it short?
