Im currently suffering from bulimia...i swear this only happens during the summer when im home and theres nothing else to do but eat. And believe me when I say Im doing everything to control it. Nonetheless, Ive been on accutane for 3-4 months and im pretty sure i have one more month left. So my question.....how will my stuggle with bulimia affect my accutane treatment? I try to take accutane at least 5-6 hours before i binge and vomit. Im wondering if my accutane treatment will suffer because of my disorder. Any thoughts???
well i think this would depend on how rapidly the drug is absorbed into your system and this can vary from person to person, for example vomiting can sometimes make the contraceptive pill in acitive and an unexpexted pregnancy can occur all because the medication had not been absorbed by the body before the vomiting occured. All i can really suggest is that you wait the maximum amount of time between taking the medication and vomiting, but there are no gaurentees that you are receiving the maximum benefit of accutane. i really hope that you can beat the bullemia as well as your acne
The fact of the matter is that you need to have ingested some fat w/your accutane for the medication to be fully absorbed into your bloodstream. If you're not eating fat in your meals (or are purging it all away), you won't get the full benefits of the treatment, because your body won't be getting the full amount of the dosage prescribed.
If you're managing to get down some fat w/your 'tane (and keep it down), you might be all right. However, purging and not getting enough fat down w/the medicine is a true possibility, so you may not see long term results from your course. I hope you're able to get the help you need, and that the meds get absorbed into your system. Good luck.
Well, I highly doubt you only suffer from seasonal bulimia; unless you practice anorexia during the rest of the year. Regardless, neither is compatible with a course of Accutane. Firstly, bulimia is a symptom of a psychological imbalance - a disqualifier for Tane. Second, while engaging in such dietary disorders you are inhibiting the absorbition of the Tane. Accutane needs to be taken with fatty foods which need to be digested into the blood stream. Neither anorexia nor bulimia facilitate that requirement.
Though you'll probably find this of little solace, taking a full course of Accutane (properly) will only help you lose weight. Accutane is hard on the body. While on a proper course the body hardely has time to gain weight.
Goodluck, on all counts.
thanks all for your honest answers! and you are right spezza....it is a psychological inbalance. Ive been struggling with it since freshmen year in high school....im about to be a seinor in college so thats like what....7 years?? Once I started college I was able to tone it down to only summers when im back home have nothing to do. Anyways, I would find proffesional help but im pretty sure they would take my accutane course away in a heart beat...and this is the second course ive been on in the past 2 years.
