Hey buddy, read the posts from the past. For now people have found that applying Benzoyl Peroxide (works for me) and Azelaic Acid CONTINUOUSLY (use one or the other, or maybe try both if your skin can handle it)have helped treat this problem. We do not have a "cure" for this condition but the two compounds I just mentioned are just a way to clear up your skin if you apply it everyday non-stop. Also note that it takes a few weeks of applying before you see the pustules start clearing up.

When I tried using a sulfur cleanser - it seriously dried my skin, and any kind of exfoliation used to irritate the hell out of my skin.
I would advise against starting so many products at once. Maybe start out by washing your face with a normal cleanser and apply the azelaic acid product as directed.
I have been using BP for approximately 5 months non-stop everyday as shampoo and face wash. However, I am going to discountinue to see if I am fully free of this. It has been three days and so far so good, my skin doesn't get dry or anything from shampoo or normal body/ face washes. My lymph nodes are still shrunken. I no longer have seb derm either. I believe I was probably infected with GNF and BP eradicated it.I think this happened in the first place because I tried the caveman regimen which gave room for GNF to survive since it is and oily environment. Im going to give it a try to see how it goes without BP. The reason I wanted to discontinue was that BP was giving me fine lines. I read this happened to some people and they just discontinued BP. As of now I am using dove body/face wash in the shower and just regular shampoo. When I get out of the shower, I use salycilic acid toner for oil control and then moisturize. My face since stopping BP takes way way longer to get oily again and sometimes it even doesn't get oil. However if Pustules start returning I am going back to BP again.
@JohnnyPIm not sure about anything else i dont want to change anything as it works so well.. sulphur soap 10% honey oat exfoliation every night very gentle and Azeliac acid thats it...
morning just sulphur soap
Hey guys,
I've been following this topic for some time as I have myself the same problem since my early 20's (now I'm 33).
Ok, just to clarify that by saying the following things I only share my experience with you, guys.
I'm not a dermatologist, I'm just a regular guy who struggled with this issue and consequently found some dependencies worsting and bettering the problem.
I wish I knew at least half of the things, which I know now, earlier...like most things in life
So first of all guys, you need to realize problem and it's importance and get really motivated to change huge amount of things in your habits.
I know that first question that pops up in the head of everyone is "What causes this shit...?"
Let's get started by loving ourselves more: loving our bodies, loving our head and face, loving our skin, forget for a second pimples and etc.
Yeah, I know you don't want to hide from the world and let this shit break down your self-esteem.
Ok you just started the treatment. THE SECRETS ARE TO FIND A BALANCE AND LESS WILL DO MUCH MORE FOR YOU! Yes - right, you need to keep some things minimalist (at least in the beginning) in order to achieve results. And remember, you have to work for it, do shit (no cheating) and never give up.
We have to realize IT'S NOT one single thing causing it, but IT'S a complex of daily routine things and to some extent the genes (it surely could be greatly controlled though!)
Ok there are bunch of factors impacting it:
- what you eat and your daily eat routine
- what vitamins and dietary supplements you take with food or LACK of these in your meal
- amount and quality of water you drink
- how you shave yourself / trim your beard (hygiene and replacement of razors)
- face and hair wash products and how often you use them
- stress factors in your life
- antibiotics intake in your teenage years
- alcohol
I'm gonna say couple of thing for each of these factors (not going much into detail)
Let's start with eating topic. What's OK to eat (at least in first half an year):
- boiled rice
- boiled potatoes (moderate quantities)
- vegetable soup
- garlic, onion (preferably raw)
- sauerkraut
- coconut oil, olive oil (moderate quantity) as source of fats
- steamed broccoli, cauliflower etc.
- lentils, beans in moderate quantity
- olives in moderate quantities (7-10 per day)
- some fishes and seafood (google which are good)
- non-industrial beef and poultry if you can find (strictly avoid frying)
- boiled non-industrial eggs again if you cand find such (max 2 per day)
- fruits - small quantities: EAT THEM AT BEGINNING OF MEAL, BEFORE ANY OTHER FOOD
- smoothies
- rice cakes
- stevia
- max 2-3 teaspoon of honey dissolved in water per day
- couple of squares dark chocolate per day is ok
What's NOT OK to eat:
- absolutely all dairy products
- whey protein
- all kind of products with sugar
- gluten containing products
- junk food
- pizza
- fruit juices containing sugar
- all kind of soft drinks containing sugar
- soybean oil
- ice cream
- chocolate (couple of squares dark chocolate per day is ok though)
Drink clean and filtered water ~2 litres per day. Drink water before eating.
Vitamins and dietary supplements your body needs:
- vitamin C, vitamins from B group, vitamin D, vitamin E
- Omega-3-6-9 Fatty Acids
- Zinc, Selenium, Magnesium
Better don't shave for a while (even few months). After bettering use carefully a beard trimmer to diminish your beard.
RINSE YOUR FACE WITH THE COLDEST WATER FROM THE TAB COUPLE OF TIMES THROUGHOUT THE DAY. Wash twice a day - morning and evening with non-aggressive face wash. Same with your shampoo - do not wash your head every single day.
Change your pillow cover or using fresh towels over your pillow everyday.
Try to stress less - meditate, do yoga etc.
If you visit a dermatologist, I'm sure he/she's going to prescribe you an antibiotic, but remember this shit doesn't give you a result which will last in time!
If you're used to drink alcohol, you have to try only drink socially - a beer or 1-2 glasses of wine maximum.
These were my advises, guys... again I'm not telling they're the best, I just share my experience with you
Take care,
Cheers
@bungholio That's a great summary, thanks! Personally, I can tolerate goat and sheep dairy products. And another trigger I found out just a few days ago, is trimming the hair inside the nose I think I will now just let it grow...
@Maicon Thanks mate. Yes, some sheep and dairy products might be ok, it's up to the individual metabolism.
However, I'd advise you guys to stop entirely dairy products intake in order to start a proper detoxify process.
I'm not saying I hate dairy products - exactly the opposite, I used to eat a lot of them, BUT...
Let's get honest about it - they implicit complex antigen-antibody reactions in our bodies, which to some extent mess up our metabolism. Ok, I agree that amino acids in some ripened cheeses are good in general, but starter bacteria used in production are bad for people with this issue.
I've cut out dairy products for an year know and it gave some nice results, haven't completely cut out sugar (but still have greatly minimised the intake).
If you provide your body with carbs as much as possible from rice, potatoes etc. instead of bread, it will give great results too. Again, it's a combination of factors, not a single one and it's not easy
Regarding nose hair, I sometimes burn them with matchstick, it's not dangerous, you just need to be fast
One other important thing don't use lip balm sticks! Use vaseline in tin instead.
@jcbdigger365where did you get azelaic acid from? bp works for me but i wanna see how azelaic acid does. Amazon does not have a lot of options.
which brand did you get?

@Alladin#$@I sent you a message.
@Alladin#$@Hi, Im actually taking steps to formulate a brand new product for this condition based on my experience. You can check back to my posts and I have explained what I did to resolve the problem permanently. Ive been helping friends and people since and having great results, if you are interested PM your email and we can go through a one to one consultation as Im pretty sure I can sort this problem out for you permanently in a matter of weeks.
@Alladin#$@ Hi, you are not alone on this. I have been on Dalacin T and fancl powder cleanser as my daily routine. After i used up my Dalacin T, i was using aloe vera to treat my acne pustule with aloe vera as spot treatment. Pustule was under control with around 2-3 per week and will recover in 2-3 days.
After follow this thread and noted how @jcbdigger365 got amazing result, i decided to try azelaic acid and i got Ordinary suspension 10% azelaic acid cream. My face took this negatively and broke out with more than 5 to 10 pustule with new ones on a daily basis. I stopped azelaic acid after 4 days of use. Went to get new bottle of Dalacin T, managed to bring the breakout under control. However pustule still will come but much lesser with use of Dalacin T. Hence i decided to use another potent med mentioned in this thread, benzoyl peroxide. I got benzac 2.5% and current regime is at night dalacin t and morning BP.
Breakout started on 15 sep after use of azelaic acid
Used Dalacin T on 25 sep and bring it under control within 5 days, but still 1 or 2 pustule will come
Started BP on 6 oct and notice lesser pustule.
Will wait for pustule to stop before treating dryness.
Still hope to go back on azelaic acid.
For the past few weeks I've had amazing results with just a few simple tweaks to my routine, It's almost made my skin 100% (Note: I do continue to use bp at night). I'm hoping some of you guys could try this out to see if it helps you as well. My ultimate goal is to ween off of BP fully.
- I eliminated all nuts. I used to eat cashews every day, and I've stopped completed.
- As soon as I wake I drink a glass of room temp. water with a splash of lemon juice and a teaspoon of salt. I use organic lemon concentrate and Himalayan salt.
- In my morning shower, after my normal cleaning routine, I do cold immersion for 1-3 minutes (Wim Hof method).
I know these are pretty simple, but It's almost completed eliminated all pustules from appearing. I think I've maybe gotten 1 small pustule in the past 2 weeks.
I'm thinking I have reduce my inflammation enough that it's stopped the folliculitis and follicle inflammation. If you do incorporate this into your daily lifestyle, please post results. BP has helped me immensely and this has only made my skin even better (and it's cheap!).
Regards,
@MaiconSeems we are the minority who are reacting against azelaic acid.
Anyone who has a breakout the first time with azelaic acid but succeed with second try onwards?
Nevertheless Im thankful with bp putting the pustules under control. There are still 1-2 coming but they mostly dry up before developing overly big and ugly. Considering I just started 6 oct. Awaiting better results in days to come.
The cold immersion does seem to help.
Hey all.
Just an update. Since my last post I've tried:
- a staph decolonization routine (hibiclens, iodine, triple antibiotic ointment followed by BP)
- azelaic acid (no negative impact, I actually quite like the cream (20%) but just didn't help at all).
None of the above showed any noticeable improvement, unfortunately. In fact today it's particularly bad, and my mental health is just as bad as a result.
Went back to the derm and he persuaded me to try the antibiotics. So I'm now 5 days into a course of lymecycline alongside another topical decolonization period. Twice the standard dose for acne treatment. Not ideal, but I am doing everything possible to maintain a level of gut health (fermented foods, no refined sugars, varied probiotic strains etc). Will wait and see. This will be the first time I've taken antibiotics in a long time (at least 7 years).
I've also taken another nasal swab to see if my nose is still colonized with staph.
Anyway, considering we're all in the same boat and this platform is a little clunky... I've just decided to createa brand new FB support group for those suffering from chronic folliculitis and related conditions. It'll be a space where can post about and discuss the latest research, treatment options and progress etc. I'm also working on a simple website that collates many of the treatment options into mega-guides... but it's taking some time due to my work schedule.
Anyway, the FB group is literally brand new (10 minutes old), soif you're interested in joining, let me know and I'll send you the link. It's closed btw, so nobody outside the group would be able to see your posts or what you share there.
@Canucklehead12and @Thinker5great to hear that cold immersion has been helping. This is something I've considered for years but never taken the plunge! Think I'll give it a try over the next few weeks. Will let you know.
Also, @Canucklehead12 I think I remember you mentioning using Mother Dirt's topical probiotic spray in the past. Are you still using? How did you find it overall? I'm definitely keen to add a topical probiotic at some stage, but options are still pretty limited in the UK atm.
I havent been on this post in awhile because my face has cleared up. Im using Trader Joes tea tree tingle shampooon my face and hair. Leaving it on my face for a few minutes and my hair at least five mins. Showering daily. My face is noticely less oily now. You can buy it on amazon if your not near a Trader Joe.
Whats really helped me is a combo of that and bagbalm. Its in a green tin at Walmart or amazon. This stuff heals bedsores even tho its meant for cows utters. I was a nurses aid when I was younger and thats all we used for people and they didnt get bed sores. Anyway,If I get any pustules,I pop them and immediately apply bagbalm. At night I use .05% prescription generic RetinA with a thin layer of bag balm in any dry areas or red bumps. Swipe nostrils with bagbalm if needed. In the morning I use a thin layer of finaceacream and then using an at home exfoliator that really scrapes and suctions the dead skin off my face. If I keep it smooth n not dried I can keep my skin clear. Im also off dairy (mostly) and cut back on sugar. Dairy is known for inflammation. Exercise and 8 glasses of water. Keeping stress down too. It all helps.
When my face is clear I just use the tea tree tingle shampoo for cleaning and witch haze. Witch hazel keeps my skin at its natural balance. Then RetinA no more than twice a week because its drying. I think I was getting them when my skin was too dry.
I stopped using BP because it was giving me fine lines.
I exfoliate my face weekly. Going weekly for microdermabrasion treatments work best and starting there will clear your skin. But I stopped going because its too expensive and just an at home microdermabrasion system. The kind that scrapes your face and then suctions it like a vacuum.
I know it seems like a lot but its worth it.
Note that initial use of RetinA and Finacea will most likely make your skin worse at first. Making anything under your skin that is clogged turn into a zit. If you dont want that then spot treat and dab RetinA just on the pustule only. Dont forget the bagbalm in the same spot.
Very good, thanks for the update!
How long does it take until you see results? What happens when you stop using it?
I believe this product in English is called "Zineryt" and it containsthe antibiotic erythromycin.
