Vitamin D toxicity.
There is a difference between the way vitamin D is synthesized and stored from sunlight exposure and that gained from dietary sources. That means that it is impossible to overdose from UV exposure but toxicity is possible from dietary sources in what would appear to be comparatively low amounts. People with high sunlight exposure and additional supplement Vitamin D are at even greater risk of toxicity. Before I took vitamin D supplements I was unaware of the distinction between UV-sourced Vitamin D and dietary Vitamin D. Further information is available on the net.
Cigarettes and alcohol and vitamins
I was comparing the legality of the products, not their effects. Legality does not itself confer desirability.
I have not instructed anyone to stop taking supplements, indeed supplements form part of this regime. I have, however, made my views clear about large scale supplementation, but I have not been proscriptive. I encourage interested parties to do their own research and make their own decision.
This thread is manifestly not about vitamin supplementation. Consequently, I am not going to make any further posts on the subject.
This isn't about derailing a post. It's to inform people he's misguided with what he's presenting as facts.
In that case: great timing... Commenting on a one year old post, right after the two of you had a disagreement in your own thread. Don't tell me that's just a coincidence.
Anything can be risky. And I'm not saying veg juices are bad. They're actually very healthy for you. But it's not the cure-all for acne. There are many other factors that involve acne than just drinking juice.
Nowhere did the OP say it was a cure for all. It's a cure for him, and he encourages people to try it. Whether or not people need more than vegetable juice and B5, differs from person to person. Saying there are many other factors involved doesn't have to be true for everybody either. In fact, the OP is living proof.
Considering the recent history, I'll only allow healthy discussion, so avoid personal attacks.

Indeed, that it is impossible to overdose Vitamin D from ultraviolet-B (UVB) exposure, and you can in fact reach Vitamin D toxicity from supplemental Vitamin D - But that wasn't the point I was making. You state you can contract Vitamin D toxicity levels by taking a mere amount of 5,000 IU, which is just VERY unlikely. "Published cases of toxicity, for which serum levels and dose are known, all involve intake of 40000 IU (1000 mcg) per day. 1 Two different cases involved intake of over 2,000,000 IU per day - both men survived." http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/what-is-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-toxicity/ http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/about-vitamin-d/what-is-vitamin-d/vitamin-d-toxicity/
Anything can be deemed illegal or legal. Legality is the creation of man. Heck, their was a EU ban saying water doesn't hydrate you. Does that mean it's true now? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/eu/8897662/EU-bans-claim-that-water-can-prevent-dehydration.html
Hello,
I first want to say thank you wingedserpent for the time you have put into this thread and sharing your regimen with others. It is expecialy inspiring to hear of the success you've had. I am now following every step of the regimen and hope to have the same success.
I was wondering, do you add oil (like extra virgin olive oil) to your juice or recommend doing it? There are a lot of fat-soluble vitamins in the vegetables that need fat in order for them to be absorbed or at least have a better absorption rate. I realize that if you have done juicing for some time now and have seen results with helping your skin that these vitamins must be absorbed into your system without the aid of added oil. I dont want to megadose on the fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) as these tend to build up in your system and therefore can be toxic. I used to add some EVOO to the green smoothies so maybe its diffrent with
juicing. I know the person who started the green smoothies thread recomonds taking some oil source.
Hello Gabby, thanks for your comments.
Yes, that's a good question.
Generally I add a flax, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, sesame seed and goji-berry blend to the juice for the fat content, the fibre, and the protein, in order to make a more rounded drink in the morning. However, since this is a milled mixture, it doesn't dissolve and instead sits like a sludge at the bottom of the glass. So it's hardly ideal, and I can't imagine many people wanting to drink it! Adding a more palatable form of oil is a very good idea.
Because for a long while I didn't add anything to the juice, and it worked fine, I have not listed it on page 1, but I will now update it to suggest that users may wish to consider adding fats.
Good luck with your skin, and keep us posted!
Thanks. I add about half a tablespoon of EVOO to my juice daily. I think that should work.
What i have noticed thus far with my skin is an overall reduction in redness and inflammation. Its not very pronounced but I do notice it because I have been looking
at my face daily to see if there are any changes. I know that it takes time to see a real diffrence so Im trying to be patient. I am now convinced that healing of the skin long term happens at a cellular level which is from the inside. There are so many skin ailments that can be treated with diet, and expecially with juice.
I was watching the video GreaseMonkey put about this guy who only drank juice in order to loose weight and to help heal his skin rash. One thing he said that stood out was that when he was a kid and had a scrape all he had to do was leave it alone and the body would heal it from the inside. I think that makes perfect sense. Healing acne from the inside is the best way. Juicing not only helps acne but overal skin complexion.
I am also supplementing with Vitamin D3 because I limit my sun exposure. I am finding that many people have cured their acne by just taking this vitamin. I am now beginign to learn that acne can have so many causes and everyone is affected in diffrent ways. I wish it could be that simple for me but I highly doubt it. Even when I did have sun exposure I wasnt acne free. Maybe I didnt have enough sun exposure, who knows. Well, I remember you mentioned that you supplemented with Vit D3 5000 IU which was a toxic level for your body. Were you exposed to the sun as well while taking this amount? I only take 3000 IU. I am certain that I am low on Vitamin D but dont know how much. I plan on doing a test soon to see where I stand.
From personal experience, I wouldn't recommend using a face scrub. To me it's like rubbing sandpaper on scab, it's counterproductive to healing.
I would agree. Facial scrubs are very harsh on the skin. We've all seen the adverts of a woman using an apricot scrub on her face to reveal a flawless, porcelain-smooth complexion, but the truth is that these scrubs are abrasives. You are using grit to grind away the surface of the skin. If you already have a skin problem, abusing your skin further in this way just cannot be a good thing. When I used to have blackheads, I found none of these scrubs to be any use at all.
There are no easy answers to existing blackheads. In my experience, the only way to get rid of existing ones is to squeeze them. Whilst this does get rid of them, 99% of the time, you end up temporarily damaging the skin in doing so, so it's a trade off.
To prevent new ones, I am convinced that the way forward for Hollywood is the correct skin cleanser.
Yer I have ruined the skin on my nose from squeezing, so my advice for people with blackheads is to NEVER squeeze them, I have large pores all over my nose cause of this....
Still doing the juicing and loving it, lol. Got my mate in Scotland to get me a juicer off ebay for the time Im there... I leave next Friday!
Imisscheese, have you tried eliminating all things that have dairy from your diet? Your screen name suggests you probably have, but just curious. I'm starting to suspect dairy is a key player in my problem, along with sugar spikes and lack of veggie nutrients. I've learned that my skin reacts pretty quickly to what I consume. This may not be the same for everyone, but I saw things changing from just 2 days of juicing. I also had to eat pizza last week for my boss' birthday lunch, and I swear I had a flare up within 2-3 days after that... my temple pimples. I figure if my skin can react so quickly from juicing, it can probably react very quickly to the bad foods as well.
Anyway, I am a veggie juce convert. I think I will be drinking daily veggie juice for life! I KNOW it has decreased my inflammation/acne. Sometimes I put an apple in my juice, too. Apples are the only fruit I use, if I do use them. I'm also starting to experiment with other things like kale, ginger root and other greens. It's definitely become a habit for me. I also feel good about what I put on the conveyor belt at the grocery store. A woman who was behind me even commented on how healthy my food was compared to the junk she was buying. Haha! Here's a documentary of a guy who went on a 2-month juice fast to cleanse his body, and it ended up healing a rare skin rash he had that he couldn't get rid of with prescription meds... http://www.hulu.com/...and-nearly-dead
DAIRY is a thing of the past for me mostly,yes.... only drink soymilk, only eat yogurt after a bad stomach flu, and I MISS CHEESE oh so much..LOL and since ive stopped the dairy ive seen a BIG drop in number of cysts... and an even BIGGER inprovement of my overall skin appearance, feeling, oiliness since ive started WINGEDSERPENTS juice program..and note that i havent been taking the vitamins because i cant find the b-5 anywhere,, ive got the acetyl-l-carnitine but havent taken them because i know they should be taken together w/ the B-5...i will check online for the B-5...
But what i wanted o point out is that just the juice every morning for 2 months now ALONE has dramatically improved my skin,,,i have not had one cyst on my cheeks(where they would get the biggest and the worst) and when i would get a cyst on my chin, temple, or jawline, they go away at least a week quicker then before i started juicing...i understand that wingedserpents regime is to be followed to the 4th rule, but sugars in my diet is not going anywhere( once i stop smoking weed, i will stop the sugars), water intake has beeen average, and no B-5 or l-carnitine(but taking zinc,E,A,C,Omega-3) and just the JUICE ALONE is working, so i believe once i determine myself to follow ALL the rules, i can be 100% clear for the first time in 10 years....
FFIGHT ON EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd like to chuck in my two cents with the dairy side. I've been allergic since birth to all forms of dairy - although the Dr thought I'd "grow in to it", few years of extreme reactions...on verge of death...and voila, dairy allergy confirmed. But this isn't a life story. I've always had dairy alternatives and an okay diet, my mum brought me up with strong emphasis of a godo diet...but we all need to pig out once in a while [Edited image out]
But I've noticed over the years I've never had the flu...the only time I can recall was when a massive viral thing was going round college in 2002 which put me out for a day. Even when a few in my old office had mild swine-flu I remained unscathed. But I've had the wonderful opportunity of moving from different house-shares through the years and also noticed a few funny things. Once living with an ex, she/we decided to just buy soy because she couldn't tell the difference and was better economically and for fridge space her infrequent flu's became no more, energy levels picked up and she was more "regular"/less constipated in that area. Example 2: lived with an in-landlord in his 50's, all his life a dairy man. Always constipated, frequent flu's, flatulance...although I'm still a child and find farts funny (i know, i know). Needless to say he got on the no-dairy/soy bandwagon and alleviated the listed symptoms. This was a few years ago and whenever go for pint he's still keeping it up years later and always couldn't believe after all the medication, doctor visits etc...taking out dairy was a strong correlate to his alleviation.
But I'm not naive. And I don't expect people here to be. A lot goes into a healthy lifestyle and one simple elimination may not be the reason why this happened.
Apart from the two cents...
I have to say this is one of the most intricate and well-researched pieces of holistic acne treatment I've come across. Having a 50/50 lifestyle of abusing my body Vs vitamins/organic food and exercising leads me with persistent mild acne, blackheads and kurtosis polaris. I've come to a philisophical standpoint of really not wanting acne anymore...and in the mindset to hit summer with (hopefully) clear skin. I think I was more inclined to do this because once upon a time I used to juice and remember feeling great when doing it consistently.
I've been on this regimen for a week and already noticed a few positive results. Obviously I'm working on a good foundation (or at least I think so with good diet/exercise), but think I will have slower than "normal" results due to the poisons I've come accustomed to. Notably smoking and Starbucks...damn Grande Caramel Soy latte is devil dressed in angels clothing. But I've been hitting both addictions cold turkey and like a trojan.
Results: My skin is healing very quickly and swiftly in comparison to before. It's not anywhere near completely clear, but it's a good start. Obviously the no smoking and having sugar bomb everyday at 8am is hard short term (like any habit), but long term...even though a week...my energy levels are higher, I have a clearer head throughout the day, I feel properly rested when I sleep. In short, these slight positive changes are great step to helping my body.
It's has good power/juice ratio, quiet, big shute, easy to clean. [Edited image out]
If you made it this far, well done. And sorry, I didn't mean to write a novel for my first post.
Hey everyone-- here's my update. I've just finished 4 weeks following this plan. I drink a mix of carrot and sweet potato juice in the morning, and probably 3 days per week I have a salad with mixed greens, cucumber, carrots, beets, and red/green peppers. Not eating any sugar as been pretty easy. In addition to the negative association, I have also just focused on what I AM eating, instead of what I'm not. Oddly enough, the hardest part has been refusing offers from other people for cookies, donuts, desert, etc. I've always had this experience with dairy too, although soy milk and soy products have become pretty popular now which makes it easier. It's funny how often people want me to eat sugar.
"Here, have a donut, I brought some for everyone!"
"No thanks."
"You sure? C'mon, have one!"
"No, really, I'm fine. No thank you."
"They're really good!"
"That's ok, I'm just trying to cut down on sugar recently."
"C'mon, I saw you eating donuts just last month. Just have one!" etc. etc. etc.
People tend to not like to take no for an answer. I guess some people are just wired this way.......
Anyway, my skin is definitely looking better. I've noticed that my arms and legs, which have always been dry and flaky, now feels softer and like normal skin, without even using any moisturizer! I've always been of the idea that healthy skin doesn't need any products. But I digress. Something is clearly happening here, so I'd say the tough part is over. It's hard to continue on through the days and weeks before the results show!
Wingedserpent I`m in the process of buying a juicer myself I have used one intermittently previously so I know how good they are for your whole body health. They give a feeling of health and well-being that is priceless.Looking forward to using one everyday though.
I have a few questions on the SUGAR thing
What do you classify as sugar??
For example I drink alot of Lucozade,is that sugar?
For example 500ml has 86g of Carbohydrate in of which 43g is sugar.Cut out or not?
Honey. Is this sugar? Or is this good sugar?
What I`m asking really is a more specific definition of sugar abstinence.
cheers

That's funny. But if you really want to experience peer group pressure, try stopping drinking alcohol! I stopped for six months once (to see if it would help my skin; it didn't) and found people's insistence that I really should join them in a drink quite amusing. In the end I concluded that because they were weak-minded themselves, they needed someone else to demonstrate weak-mindedness also, in order to make them feel better about their drinking. But anyway, good luck, keep at it, I hope you get results!

I must confess that I'm not an expert on good vs bad sugars. But a solid rule of thumb I can give you is this: any sugary food/drink is okay to have occasionally, but anything that you take regularly is NOT.
I have the occasional glass of Coke and a slice of lemon. Occasionally it's okay. But drinking carbonated sweetened drinks regularly is terrible for the skin. If you are going to crave Lucozade often then you will have to stop completely or you will be forever fighting a battle of willpower. Similarly, I might have honey on toast when visiting my mother. That's fine. But I can't go out a buy a jar of honey or I'd be eating it every morning. Would my skin suffer from eating honey? I've no idea. But I don't want to find out. And even if it didn't, eating it regularly would set me off on the sugar-rollercoaster of blood-sugar highs and crashes during the day. You have to get off that rollercoaster to be free of sugar cravings.
wingedserpent,
first off thank you for making this thread.
My question is to do with acetyl-l-carnitine versus l-carnitine. These are obviously two different compounds, and I think you were referring to plain l-carnitine in your regime. Can you clarify please?
A poster a few above me (IMISSCHEESE) mentioned the acetyl version in their post. Might be worth editing OP again like you've done before.
Thanks again!
Thankyou wingedserpent for this regime, im going to begin straight away.
I am 19 years old and have been suffering from acne since i was 15, its a living hell. I am currently at university and somedays i dont even go in because its so bad. At the moment my diet is pretty bad. I drink so much water however because i cannot cook well, i only eat pasta, beans, eggs etc. I also do not have a facewash regime because i cannot bear touching my face. Im 19 and should be living my life to the max! But i just cant. I was just wondering what meals you have. I definitely have the will power to do the juicing, and i currently take pantothen, which is a b5 complex, however i am really skinny, and dont wanna just eat low fat foods as i definitely dont wanna go underweight.
Therefore i was just wondering if there was anyway possible if you could help me with a meal plan of some sort. Like what to eat meal wise everyday. It is really hard for me atm because i am always hungry and my body burns fat off so quick, i always find myself indulging in pasta and other crappy foods. I personally believe this regime could work for me but i just dont know what to eat!
Thankyou once again.

Hello, i have a few questions. (sorry if my english is a little bad, I'm dutch.)
I'm 20 years old and dealing with acne for over 5 years.
I've tried everything, but nothing really worked and i don't want to try accutane.
I have a question about the supplements, does it dry out the skin?
Because I don't have oily skin at all, my skin is dry and a little flaky, I don't want it to get worse.
I drink a lot of water/tea and I hydrate my skin with cream, but it doesn't really seem to help.
I'm going to get a juicer and see if the veggie juice will help my skin.
I really think my diet influences my acne.
I have had problems with my digestion since a few months (really bad cramps in my bowels, bad stool)
and since that's going on, my skin has gotten much worse again.
Thankyou wingedserpent for this regime, im going to begin straight away.

Hi Liam
I know what you are going through. Some 25 years ago, when I was at university, I also skipped a lot of classes because I couldn't face people seeing me. The trouble was, I failed my first year because of that! So try to avoid that! (I did get my degree, but it took four years instead of three).
As I've said in the FAQ on page 1, I'm not a big advocate of restrictive, 'anti-acne' diets, other than sugar elimination. My diet is largely based upon what is generally healthy to eat: non-processed foods, low in saturated fat, low in salt, nutrient rich. You can find lots of info on the net about these.
If you are inexperienced in the kitchen then I suggest starting with stir-fry. It's simple, quick, affordable, nutritious. Buy an affordable wok. Use a very small amount of olive oil. You can use chicken, turkey, beef (occasionally), duck, prawns, and any vegetables you like. You can add in any spices: maybe Chinese 5 spice or Thai 7 spice to start since they come ready mixed. Combine with rice noodles, egg noodles, or rice (brown is better but not everyone likes it), or on it's own. Simple. There are hundreds of stir fry recipes out there. Another great meal to have is baked or fried (in a tiny amount of oil) salmon. Combine with a leafy salad and boiled sweet potatoes. A nutrient powerhouse! Or baked cod parcels with spinach and tomato and garlic. One of my favourites.
These are just suggestions -I'm not a dietician, or a chef! Cooking is like anything else. Jump in, start off with simple things, find what you like. If you are 'always hungry' then that's a red flag right there that you need to start eating properly. Being hungry is your body signalling that it is about to use stored fat to continue operating. You're not taking on sufficient nutrients. Juicing is an excellent start, but proper meals are important.
I know being a student puts you under financial pressure. But I remember as a student I could always find money for beer and tobacco, so it's often a question of priorities!
Hope this helps.

Hey Rusko, thanks for the question.
Yes, it may cause dry skin, but this has been reported in doses much larger than the one I recommend. The problems appear to arise from users not taking on sufficient B complex vitamins in their diet, rather than the B5 itself.
If you are concerned the best thing to do is to omit the supplements for the time being and introduce only if you don't see results with juicing alone.

Yes. I am referring to L-carnitine.
Thanks man, i go back home in 10 days and hope to start a course of cetaphil cleanser and cetaphil moisturiser. One side of my cheek is fine with a few scars, but the other side is horrible, Tbh the whole right side of my face is relatively clear, then its my left side which is really bad. I am like 2 face form batman, jeesh haha. My forehead is the worst, then my cheek. I rarely get acne on my chin anymore. If i can get rid of my acne on my forehead I'll be so happy! Once i get my next university fee in a few weeks time, i am definitely going to invest in a juicer. I also might add that i supply a heavy dose of sudocrem to my affected areas. Is this bad? It sort of dries them out and covers them so i dont have to see them. Should i use a facewash, moisturiser and a acne face cream of some sort on my affected areas, along with your regime? Or is this not a good idea?
Thanks
