So I just found this today and had lots of questions, lol. Hopefully someone can help out.
1. I don't understand what the posters above mean about juicer vs blender. I have the NutriBullet, is that good enough?
2. The sweet potato and butternut squash is raw? Really?
3. Instead of olive oil/flaxseed/etc for fats, can you use avocado?
4. I've found in the past (at least with the NutriBullet), without water, the veggie juice is too thick (need to spoon it out!). What's the harm in a little water to make it go down quicker?
5. Is there harm in adding a single piece of fruit just to make it taste that little bit better?
6. Is the B5 supplement essential? 500mg still seems like a lot when the RDI is like 5-10mg?
7. Does the veggie juice have to be consumed on an empty stomach or can I eat something else with it?
8. Can someone elaborate on why the OP uses powdered wheatgerm? What is it and why use it?

I once juiced a sweet potato and it kind of burned my mouth...or something. Pretty nasty.
I just wanna throw this out there, I did similar juicing a while ago and while it did help me lose weight, it did not help my skin. I did the same kind of juicing while avoiding sugars...however I didn't know about high glycemic indexes and high carbs and all that, so I was still eating g stuff like cereal and rice cakes. My opinion is, it could help some people but ypu may have to completely change your diet in addition to what's listed here. At least it can do no harm so I'd say try out if you have a mind to.
I'm planning to start this method as fast as possible. I'm right now in the beginning of my second cicle of roacutan and I was searching for some effective alternative treatment. MAN, this is what I was looking for! I'll stop my treatment and do this for this 2 months and see if it works for me.
I've read the most important parts of the post and all I can see is reasonable and logic advises.
Just registered in this page because of this post.
I've been creeping this post for the past week and I am heading out to the store to purchase my L-Carnitine. Ive started taking my B Vitamins again (past week).I have noticed drinking vegetables does improve my acne, so i am excited to see how this routine will benefit my skin! I am still quite depressed from my recent breakout which has been going on and on for the past 2 months.:(

Hi Tex.
Yes, I had oily skin.
However, I very much doubt that just a single low dose of 500mg is going to have any effect on the body yet, let alone cause an effect that you could actually see, such as new spots or extra-dry skin. The mistake most people make is that they get focussed on the micro ups and downs in their skin quality (which everyone has, not just acne sufferers) before waiting to establish the macro picture over several weeks. That is the only meaningful test of any regime: is my skin generally better or worse over the longer term?
As I recall when I first started my regime, I was still getting cysts two to three weeks in. This was a legacy of my previous lifestyle, but I could have easily thought "oh, it's not working" or "it's causing more zits, not fewer!" and quit.
To take another example: when I was into body building, I used to take creatine, which is a known acne-aggravator (I didn't know this at the time). For a few weeks, there was no effect on my skin, and then it went haywire, absolutely ballistic. So, even a known acne aggravator takes a while to kick in.
The thing about B5 is there is evidence to support its effectiveness. The same cannot be said about all the other remedies touted on these boards, from evening primrose oil to lemon juice to royal jelly to turmeric powder to apple cider vinegar, etc, etc. I prefer to take something that has some basis in clinical research. That's why I think it's important to give B5 a decent trial period to see if it can help.
Having said all that, different types of L-Carnitine are more potent that others and magnify the effects of B5 with different doses. I haven't taken the form you are taking, so I can't really offer any support on that. What you could try is dropping the B5 level by half and monitor the situation. At the end of the day, the ideal position to be in is to take the minimum level of supplements necessary to do the job.
hey I'm new to this and I'lI try out this regime but I wanted to ask about bodybuilding and acne , obviously creatine broke you out as has it with me, I'm 22 should I stop bodybuilding because of acne (I don't eat dairy anymore) but however I don't eat no vegetables so this is why I want to try this regime
Hi!!
I just recently started juicing and I started off with watermelon and orange juice. But the very next day I got about 6 pimples!!
I know I had ISSUES with sugar and consuming TOO much of processed food, but never thought that probably natural sugar from fruits like orange could probably cause breakouts?
Could someone please tell me if fruits with high sugar content can lead to breakouts? and if yes, which fruits do I stay away from?
Would REALLY APPRECIATE some guidance PLEASE!!
I started changing my diet to something similar to the OPs about 12 months ago. I'd finally had enough of my adult acne and a pimply rash on my forehead after 10 years of suffering with it and big cyst acne started breaking out on my neck and chin. My skin has never been great and I have a lot of thread veins. I read this forum and people said you just had to change your diet. I read Markus Rothkranz book Heal Your Life 101 and many other life changing health books since then. I started off by drinking a green smoothie everyday - mostly green veggies and perhaps a small amount of fruit ie half a banana or berries. I cut out dairy and wheat. I then started cutting out sugar and processed foods - my weakness was deep fried hot chips. It took me a while to do this. After Xmas I stopped drinking alcohol and drank/ate more leafy greens/veges and made sure I was getting enough Omega 3 through seeds and grains and VitC through lemons, limes etc. regular exercise is important too. My skin is finally clear after 12 months of steadily changing my diet - no quick fix. Since my skin cleared up I discovered I had some sun damage which I had assumed was a form of acne. So my advise would be to follow the OPs advise and start making good dietary changes and cut out sugar, processed foods, booze and eat heaps of veggies and juice veggies - get plenty of sleep. I know my diet will be heavily planted-based for the rest of my life. If Juicing is not working perhaps find a good nutritionist who may be able to find out what you need to eat or put in your juice to be healthy and have beautiful skin.
I found this page in late March 2018, after my thousandth search for holistic ways to clear acne. I am now 26 and I'd had acne on my face and back since I was 14 or 15, so it's been 10+ years. Luckily, it was only cystic for a year or two in high school, but the small to medium acne I'd get were all over.
I don't follow Winged Serpent's ideas totally, but his have made a big difference so I post it here. I've never been on Accutane/Iso for any period, and I'm willing to try basically anything else. My philosophy is to find treatments that each hit acne in a different way and combine them, whether Rx or holistic - I'm not a doctor so this advice is all for entertainment (ie. disclaimer).
Here's my current list of Rx and holistic treatments:
Rx:
Duac (topical)
Retin-A generic (topical)
both nightly.
Holistic - supplements:
3g of Chlorella and 3g of Spirulina daily
5g of Barley Grass daily
500 mg Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5) - daily,
notice, I don't take time release, I used NOW, it works, but it may have causedthe dryness issues I had/have.
edit: I started taking time-release in Jan 2019 or so. The non-time release was causing male-pattern baldness. I have amazing hair genes, like WS. I switched to time-release and over the course of a year or so my hair is back to normal. I the supplementmay be contributing to tinnitus though, although I didn't develop that until ~September 2020.
Holistic - topical:
pure tea tree oil as a spot treatment, dab a bit on a tissue, and I use
directly on my face. Use Thursday Plantation brand, it's like $20 a bottle
on Amazon but has lasted me like 8-10 months and is still half-full.
Body Shop Tea Tree Oil soap as a face/body wash daily.
Dietary:
Severely limit dairy
Drink lots of water
Severely/totally limit sugar (natural and processed) and alcohol
Eat as many green and other vegetables as possible.
I started with the Chlorella and Spirulina in November 2017 and waited six months. These alone eliminated the larger zits I was getting. I started Vitamin B5 on April 4, 2018. It's been a little over 3 months. I haven't been religious on the no sugar or alcohol thing, but I've been fairly strict.
Results: In the past 3 months my facial acne has been reduced by 80-90% with the B5 addition, and my back acne by 75%-80% or so. Additionally, the surface of my skin that hasn't had acne on it has become much more even and less splotchy.
Side effects: From B5 I've had positive side effects of being much calmer, and I think it has helped in mild fat loss and mild muscle gain.
Negative side effects: Particularly when first starting my scalp and other parts of my body were extremely dry and itchy. This has since been reduced, with some moisturizers, but also over time. ALSO, re: hair-loss, I had no apparent increase in hair loss, judging by my current fullness of hair, but I think the scalp dryness did cause an increase in hair shedding to start. Keep in mind, like WS I have excellent hair genes. My father is 63 or so and has nearly a full head of hair, so if it accelerates hair loss, I wouldn't be effected all that much.
Verdict: I am extremely happy with these results and plan to continue minimum three more months. I was concerned about the hair shed to begin but I was very careful to measure it to start and my hair loss per day never crossed into the "concern" amount. I do think there is still a risk of serious hairloss with B5, but for me 500mg a day (one pill usually) is not enough to cause it. It has made such a difference, just this amount of B5 per day.
Ever since middle school Ive been struggling with acne. Im in my mid twenties now and ready for it to stop. I loved Dermalmd Acne Serum! I would just dab it on the spots before bed and it kept my face much clearer. Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction (nothing new with acne products) so I gave it to a friend. I would absolutely keep using it if I could though!
