Thank you for this work, I appreciate the effort that went into it. I love when people do self experiments and find out what is best for them. Acne seems to be one of those tricky things that seems to be capable of being caused by many things in a weird feedback cycle.
-Cheers
Agree with you. Acne seems to be capable of being caused by so many things. Hard to know what to do to prevent it!
I just bought an Omega juicer. I probably won't be able to juice a ton (poor student), but I'm going to try to juice at least something every day. Today was my first time using the juicer and I made carrot and orange juice. It had lots of sugar in it, but I think it was a good experiment juice. In the future I plan to juice other things like beets, greens, sweet potatoes, etc. I'll let you guys know if it has any effect on my skin.

I also just bought a juicer to a Breville. Vegteables are not that expensive depending on where you shop. Trader Joes has organic carrots for $89 cents per bag and celery is only $2 per bag. Please keep us posted. How is your skin as of now? I am trying the juicing part of this regimen along with an elimination diet consisting of fish, veggies and a ton of sweet potatoes so we'll see if it makes a dent in my acne whatsoever.
Good Luck on your end too.

Oh, I'm so glad someone else is also trying juicing! My skin right now is quite good thanks to eating a vegan diet and taking vitamin C. I don't have much inflamed acne, but I struggle with non-inflamed acne which is mostly concentrated in my t-zone. I'd love it if juicing could improve my non-inflamed acne a bit, make me a little less oily, and improve my skin tone. I hope we both see some improvement

How has the juicing been going? I've been juicing everyday and I'm not noticing a huge difference. My skin might be a little less oily, but that's it.

It's going well! I am not even noticing a reduction in oil but its only been 2 weeks. I heard it can take months to notice the slightest difference and that's if vitamin deficiencies are causing or contributing to acne. I want to give it a few months before i make up my mind about it. Glad to hear you're doing well.
Took 3 weeks of juicing, now I am 99% clear after 13 years dealing with acne. Only thing I did different was include raw turmeric with the other veggies. I didn't take any supplements. The last two years I've eaten mainly cooked foods, vegetarian mosltly, no oils, no dairy, no sugar, no bread, no beans, etc etc... A huge list of trigger foods and additives. lost way to much weight. But since I've started this regiment, the last five days I've been able to eat pizza and fried foods with only 2 small pimples. Had to share the good news. Hope this helps others like it did me. Honestly Brought me back to life. Big up the OP!
Thanks for this! The more I read the more I'm convinced that I need to focus on cleaning up my diet.
2 questions about juicing:
I have trouble with the taste of vegetable juices, so sometimes I put some fruit (such as pineapple) to improve the taste. Would this make the plan less effective?
Does anyone else use a Nutribullet? My mother has one and I like it.
Hello below is the set up I have been using for 3 months now. So happy to finally be on top of my spots. It is so worth the effort.
No dairy products
Drink plenty of water
Drink matcha green tea or regular green tea instead of coffee/energy drinks/black tea
Use PureChimp Super Cleanser
Use brown instead of white. For example brown rice instead of white rice.
Cut down on sugary foods
Exercise at least 3 times a week
I hope this helps you. After 3 months I found its easy to follow & its just all a good habit now.
I just want to share my experience with juicing vegetables so far. I've been doing it for almost a month now.
The greatest improvement so far has been on my back. It has gone from moderate acne to almost clear. I'm not using any medication or topical on my back.
I've been juicing every day with no exceptions.
Excellent, well written post. Thank you so much for sharing your regime and for providing good, solid advice.
I'm so glad you were able to finally clear up your skin! I will be trying this and hoping to get this same results after 8 years of battling cystic acne. All the best
Okay, I can't believe I am writing this. After 25+ years of dealing with moderate - at times severe - acne, I am CLEAR!! Seriously, I started this regimen about 7 or 8 months ago. Actually I've been mostly clear for several months, but I wanted to wait to make sure it was not a fluke. Also, the last few months I've started cheating on sugar pretty bad, and I'm still 98% clear. I might get a couple small bumps around my time of the month, but they only last a couple days and leave no marks. Oh my goodness, I can't even put into words how good it feels. Unfortunately, I have pretty bad scarring, but STILL...no acne!! I'm 38 years old and have had horrible skin since I was a young teenager. For those who may be skeptical that maybe I just grew out of it - definitely not. When I started this regimen last year, my skin was a mess. I had been using benzoyl peroxide since I was about 16 years old and it was the only thing that ever worked. But at 38, I found myself with dry, dead looking skin and constant breakouts - I mean I was never without 5-6 large zits - lots of little bumps under the skin - those huge hard bumps that take months to go away .....I had them all - CONSTANTLY. I really wanted to wean myself off benzoyl peroxide, but every time I tried I would make it a couple of weeks, and then my face would be unbearable - seemingly hundreds of little bumps everywhere. So I would always succumb, and go back to BP. Then I found a site online where a girl talked about weaning off BP a little at a time. I started going from twice a day down to once a day - did that for several weeks. Then every other day for a few weeks. Then every 2 days...etc. after a couple months of this I found this regimen. This is what I do: Drink glass of water as soon as I wake in the morning
* Dring about 12 oz of juice - usually sweet potato, cucumber and celery - beets are great too
* 500 mg Pantothenic Acid - timed release - I take 500 mg twice a day - morning and night
*500 mg L-Carnatine - I take this with meal, along with the first Pantothenic Acid
* I drink nothing but water - I will add this...I read that flouride can cause acne around the mouth, which
I always had, so I started drinking only bottled spring water.
* In the beginning i was VERY strict on sugar, but have started adding back in - however I do think I notice
a difference when I eat a ton of sugar.
But it WORKS!!! For the first time in my life, I am wearing my long hair back in a ponytail! ...not trying to hide behind it. I also use Stridex extra strength pads topically, but that is more so just for the texture of my skin. It seems like it makes it look healthier. THANK YOU Winged Serpent...and Thank You Jesus for letting me discover this!
So, I've been doing this for a couple of months (since Feb), I think it works... I started when I had to go off accutane due to severe side effects. But when you're clear should you still consume juice everyday?
But I'm guessing after 7+ months you have corrected any nutritional deficiency so should you still continue to consume so much? Is it okay to just start doing it every other day or something? I'm getting lazy.
What are people doing? Do you keep doing this for life?

I supposed so. Unless I somehow grow out of acne, I'm gonna have to keep juicing for the most part of my life. But I'm okay with that. Juicing makes me feel energised and healthy and I'd much rather keep my skin clear by juicing, making smoothies and eating healthy than feeling sh*t from taking Roaccutane. I don't even juice every day, I only juice 2 - 3 times a week and my skin is mostly clear.
I don't think it's to do with nutritional deficiency. Rather, people who are genetically prone to developing acne need that extra anti-inflammatory compounds in vegetables to keep their skin clear.
For example, I've heard that the reason why the supplements such as B-complex contain more than the recommended daily intake is because there are theraputic benefits from taking a higher dose. The RDI is just there to prevent diseases but it's not for optimal health. I think the same applies to juicing as well. By drinking higher concentration of antioxidants, phytochemicals, polyphenols and flavoids in vegetables, we are able to obtain the theraputic benefits to our skin.
B5 (Pantothenic acid, Pantethine) and Coenzyme-A works because it upregulates the metabolism of fatty acids and carbohydrates. Carbs via glycolysis from Glucose > (..)> ATP; Fatty acids via Krebs cycle.
Sorry, but this is like middleschool biology in Scandinavia
The quick fix is to eat less (bad) fatty acids and high glycemic carbohydrates, so you do not need the extra metabolism.
Hi Wingedserpent,
Your post has inspired me to really look at my diet, and consider what means more to me - food or health (and consequentially, healthy skin). I am currently on tazorac and 100 mg of doxycycline hyclate twice a day with meals. However, I have also cut out sugar in my diet (though I tend to cheat once a week) and drink a vegetable juice every morning before meals.
I use a nutribullet, which is fast and easy. I mostly use kale, spinach, cucumber, mint, blueberries, blackberries, carrots, garlic, ginger and flax seeds. I also drink a cup of blueberry flavored kefir for the probiotics while on antibiotics. My skin is breaking out like crazy because of the tazorac (check my blog for photos), and I'm getting headaches quite often recently.

also are there certain vegetables I shouldn't use or can it be any?
how much juice do I consume...a pint?
thanks
There are pros and cons to both. Juicing leafy green vegetables creates a concentrated juice with little caloriesbut leafy greens tend to contain high amounts of oxalates which could contribute to kidney stones in some people. Cruciferous vegetables(kale, broccoli, cabbage etc.) are high in thyroid suppressing compounds and if you eat too much of them everyday, especially as raw/uncooked, it could potentially begin tolower your thyroid hormones. When you blend vegetables, you still keep the fibres and rest of the nutrients that's attached to the fibre.
I normally only juice hard vegetables such as carrots and beetroot which are otherwise impossible to consume in high amounts because of high calories. Anything else like fruits and leafy greens, I just blend them into a smoothie.
