do you think ancetiaphamin (sp) would work, too? its found in Midol and other PMS medications, like "pamprin", but it doesnt have ibuprofrin (like advil)

Wow, I'm glad I found this thread! I was thinking of taking Aleve for my cramps anyways (my doctor told me to take pain-relievers for a few days before my period to help prevent cramps), and this seems like an added bonus! I was PMSing last week, so most of my pimples are gone now. I will be sure to try this next month, though! Hopefully I will have clear skin and no cramps :).

My acne seems hormonal but it is quite severe so I break out pretty much all month long...between menstruation and ovulation my hormones are always screwing up my skin. do you think it would be safe to take a low dose (like 1 tablet) every day for a long time? I know older adults do this to prevent heart attacks...think it would be ok for a 20 yr old? I don't have any other health problems...

im sure it would be fine.

however, i was just thinking about it, i dont think its a good idea to take aleve very month?

wouldnt your body just become immune to it after a while?

Just my thought..

I have been using the Aleve too...I love it!! Now I am older and had an abblation, so I do not have periods any more...but I still get the pms symtoms (oh do I) andyway, it is hard for me to keep track of when...so I take the aleve if I see a cyst (pimple) coming, I was getting them real bad, then I read about Aleve and ...man it does wonders, with in 2 days it is gone, and never gets real big...wonder drug if you ask me!!

I also use Mario Badescu products, stumbled upon them in Nordstroms..his Acne line is WONDERFUL....I was a basket case 3 months ago...another doctor wanted to pu tme on accutane, yes my face was that bad...thankd goodness for Aleve and Mario!!!

Wow, what a great idea -- I'm glad I found this thread. My period should be starting soon, and I usually take Tylenol for cramps, but what the heck -- Aleve is definitely worth a shot. Seems like my face rbeaks out a week BEFORE my period, but I guess it can't hurt to try it for a day or two and see if it does anything! My acne is REALLY bad though -- moderate/severe, I guess. I'll let ya'll know if there are any beneficial effects.

Oh, and I am taking a progestin-only birth control pill...anyone here take that? It doesn't help my acne and I sometimes wonder if it makes things worse. The specific one I'm on is Ortho-Micronor.

I think Aleve is only bad if you take it every day! Other than that, it's a pretty normal painkiller.

I suggest doing a little research in the Prescriptions forum, Hormonal subforum.

I was reading about acne earlier today and I thought about how maybe my anti-inflammatory pills might work to reduce the redness or some of the pimples. I have Naproxen for my knee, which I don't take much at all. So I just now looked up Naproxen and acne and this forum and thread came up. After reading a bit, I am going to start taking it to see if it helps calm down some of the acne bumps I am getting.

I am a male.. so I am working with a different problem I guess.. but hopefully it helps.

Wow, I'm definitely going to try this out. I usually get pimples either the week before my period or during...so it's going to be tough for me to figure out exactly when will be best. I guess as soon as I see one brewing, I'll get to poppin' Aleve.

Does anyone notice that their face looks calmer, less irritated, and less red when using aleve? Whenever I take it, my skin has a more normal skin tone as opposed to redness, that I usually have? I wish I could take it everyday but I would rather not have health problems:) So I do as LQ recommends and use 3 days prior to my period.

Thanks LQ for this information!!!

I have been using Aleve during my past two cycles and have not had any of the pimples or cysts that I have been struggling with since I stopped BC pills! Thanks for the great tip! I tend to scar more easily as I get older so anything that stops the inflammation is number one in my book. I also recommend Neutrogena Oil Free Stress Free lotion for a night time treatment. It dries up the little whiteheads without making skin flaky.

I'll have to try this, thanks for the tip. I have taken ibuprofen in the past when I have a painful pimple and it SEEMS to help (or maybe I just think it does). But I never would imagine to try an NSAID like Aleve to PREVENT. Hm, I'll have to see how it works for me. I recently switched my BC to Yaz so hopefully that will make a difference too.
