Hi, im begining my accutane journey tommorow and will be keeping a journal so i can keep track of my progress and results. Im going on a low dose of 10mg to lessen the side effects. I will also be doing heavy lifting and strength trainning while on the drug.
To begin, ive had acne since the 8th grade. It began to get worse and worse. I started by taking benzol peroxide which did help but didnt solve my problem. I then went ahead and tried tretinoin. This helped but also didnt cure. Antibiotics worked but didnt last. I became immune and they were doing more harm to my body then good. By my sophmore year my acne had covered most of my face and it continued to get worse. I finally decided that accutane was my last hope. I went to the dermatologist and they perscribed me 10mg of accutane. Later to be bumped up to 20mg. I will be posting updates once a week and progress photos once a month. Excited but worried, but at this point it is a last resort

Today is day 7 of my accutane. And so far no side effects. I did have 3 nasty cysts break out near my jawline but I don't know if thats from the accutane or not. Since im on such a low dose I think its going to take much longer till the dryness starts occurring. Considering im 155 pounds and 10mg is super low for me. Ive lifted pretty hard too and no pain whatsoever (so far). Im actually excited for the drying to occur since ive had oily skin for almost 4 years now. Hopefully by next week there will be more of an interesting update.
It's day 15 finally, so far nothing to exciting. Still only little bit of face drying. I normally would have to rinse my face off half way through the day but so far I've been able to get by without it. My face is a lot less red too. I think this is because I haven't been using any topical creams. I think it's been helping a lot with skin irritation.
So today is day 21, it's felt like a lot longer! Now that I'm on it I'm hoping for a miracle where it will go away quick. But obviously that's not very realistic while on accutane. Especially on a low dose like I am. Well so far no side effects besides less oil on my face. Which I can say is a pretty great feeling. I don't have chapped lips or anything like that either. I have an appointment with my derm coming up where I'll double up my dosage to 20mg daily. On a side note I thought I'd include a few pictures of where my face stands at the moment. It's on flash so it really helps to show where all the blemishes are.
Do you feel it has gotten worse since starting? The first pics are now showing up properly on my computer x
For me, it doesn't feel much worse but it doesn't seem a lot better either. My redness is actually a lot better though since I'm not putting topical creams on my face
A few days late but still wanted to put up a quick update. After my one month check up yesterday I will be going up to 20mg now. This will give me more side effects but still will be very low for my weight and is still considered a low dose. So far just dry skin on face, don't even have chapped lips yet which is nice.Anyways wanted to throw some photos of what my face currently looks like.
My dosage has been upped to 20mg for the last week now and so far no major differences just Mayb a little bit more of a dry face. Still no chapped lips. Lifting has been fine for the most part just minimal back pain which is 100% tolerable.
It's September 7th so I thought I'd just do a quick update on my face. In the beginning of this week I had a very strong breakout, by Thursday it kinda settled down. As of now I'm getting very lightly chapped lips. I feel like my face is slowing clearing from my chin down. I also only have 2 pimples on my forehead which is much better then the beginning of my treatment when I had around 7 pimples. I have skin appointment later this week to do my monthly blood work.
Yes extremely prone. Many realitives in my family have severe depression. My dermatologist believes there's no link between the two and told me to not worry about it. Sometimes I think the people that do claim they have depression may be just over worried. Not saying I don't think some people actually do get depression I just think it's kinda unlikely to develop it
are you prone to depression? I am and i'm so nervous
This week my face has been the best it has been since I started my treatment. Today I started to break out a little bit but nothing like before. I only have around three pimples by my side burns, one on my forehead, and 2 on my neck. So far side effects are about the same. I've been drinking tons of water lately to stay hydrated. That being said its minimalised my dry lips tremendously. It's also helped by giving me minimal dry skin. I had my monthly check-up yesterday and I'm going to be doubling my dose to 40mg. This is going to be the highest I go up to. 40mg is still considered a low dose for me so I'm not too worried about drastic side effects or anything. I also discovered something that is great for anyone on accutane! It's a Chapstick called "Dr. Dan's corti balm. It's the only Chapstick to repair skin on the lips. It was actually designed for people on accutane. It's definently worth looking into for anyone on accutane or that will be going on accutane.
Hey man thanks for for the post! Is there any specific side effects you were trying to avoid by going on 10-20 mg? That seems really low for for someone your weight, i weigh about 150lb and was going to be put on 80mg but asked to be on a lower dose as well so was put on 40mg instead. Also i know you do lifting as well, have you noticed that it takes a longer to recover after a hard workout? I used to be pretty much fresh a day or 2 after, but now it seems my muscle recovery takes nearly twice as long
I was trying to avoid bad muscle aches and joint pain and so far I've had nothing. I'm also uping my dose to 40Mg by the end of this week. I've definently noticed that it take me longer to recover. I combat recovery time by taking glutamine. This helps rebuild your muscles faster. When I take it I can recover in about a day which is a lot better then what it was at before which was 2 to 3 days.

It puts more of a thick coating on then once it dries my lips feel like they were never chapped it's only recommended to put it on twice a day though since its powerful stuff
does the corti balm make your lips feel like normal lips?
loving everyone's product tips its so helpful. I need to start shopping
