Darn it!
Your doc may be fine with extending to 7 months, though. Since this is your first course of Accutane, and given that you were on a relatively low dose for four full months, extending to 7 months in total isn't out of the realm of possibility. You need 9,000 to 10,000mg to clear. If you were on 40mg per day first four months, that's 4,800mg total. Ninety days on 60mg a day will add another 5600 mg to the equationand get you to that total. Probably worth presenting to her in that way.
I know several folks who experienced treatment courses similar to yours and opted for a month break, then a second course. Which did the trick.
But it would seem best to try all in one shot.
Hang in there . . . thinking of you.
Tomorrow is my Dr appt to start month 6! Time goes by so fast on accutane!!! It's insane. I have two breakouts still on one cheek. They are very red and inflamed. I'm hoping that's enough to get her to let me do a sixth month. Who knows what my triglycerides are doing. I haven't even made an effort to keep them in check.
Starting month 6 tomorrow-Symptoms:
dry inside nose
dryish eyes. Mainly at night after wearing contacts all day.
sore lower back
no period in 3 months
fluctuating triglycerides
Still no:
mood swings
dry skin on face or body
dry lips
My back has been clear since month 2.
Forehead clear since month 4.
Jawline clear since month 4.
Nose clear since month 1.
Cheeks are still breaking out.
Saw the derm today! I'm staying on the tane at least another month and then we will decide. She's only had one patient ever need a 7th month but if anyone can do it it's me! LOL
She also gave me two cortisone shots in the two that are inflamed on my cheeks. I'm staying at 60 mg for now. Hopefully my tris aren't bad, but I don't expect them to be good because I've made no effort to improve them.
Soooo... my tris went down to 213 from 273 but she's still not comfortable with it so I'm back down to 40 mg. I really wanted to finish strong. I'll try to keep my tris under control this month and maybe I can go back up. I can't wait for this to be over, however I will be a paranoid mess once I'm done with it!

I didn't notice a lot of symptoms at 40 but dry nose and eyes. I'm back on 40 now though and my joints are killing me! It's after being on 60mg and 80 mg now back down to 40 mg. I guess because it has a cumulative effect the drug is still there.
The dry inside of my nose is just the weirdest feeling! Hopefully you won't get too dry or peely. I have not once gotten peely or had dry lips. Very bizarre. Even on 80 mg!
I think I've read about the flushing and redness but I did not experience it myself. Hopefully it will go away!
So today I was in the car and there was good light so I pulled out a mirror and saw the craziest thing! My nose pores were pushing out the sebaceous filaments!!!! I've been dying for this to happen! It looks like little hairs all over the nose. I removed them of course, but this usually happens earlier in treatment so I thought I wasn't going to have it happen. It was awesome!
GREAT news!
Im up to 40mg..20 am and pm and no big difference
corners of my mouth a little dry but skin and lips still OK
I didnt think I was THIS oily
problems with the skin around nose..I just peels it and not its red and hurts!!!
But the more I put moisturizer in this area the more I get painful breakouts..so no win!
but overall , doing well
Hope things continue ot go well for you!

Awesome!!! Just be proactive and always have lip balm on your lips and the corners and keep a travel moisturizer with you at all times! You'll be golden!
The doctor decided since we got a late start to extend me another month so as soon as my blood work comes back I'll start month 7! I can't believe how fast it's gone. Seriously crazy!
I'm feeling good. No real symptoms besides dry eyes at night. Since going to 40's my joint pains are gone. I need to correct my dosage because I forgot I did 60 mg one month.
It was:
40 mg month 1
40 mg month 2
40 mg month 3
80 mg month 4
60 mg month 5
40 mg month 6
40 mg (about to start)
After a long 7 months I'm DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's bittersweet because now I'll be freaked out every single morning!
I haven't had any breakouts for 2 months and it's been wonderful. I still have a lot of PIH but the dr says that will go away with time.
Accutane was the best decision I've ever made. I wish it was mentioned to me much earlier in life!!! I would make the decision again in a heartbeat.
Over the course of my treatment I had very little side effects.
I did have:
dryness inside the nose
joint aches when I was at 80 mg for one month
no period for 5 months (rare side effect)
Common symptoms I did not have:
mood swings
dry skin
dry lips
flushing
joint pains except on 80 mg
hair loss
irritable bowels
depression
I'll try to find some pictures to update!
