Day 119:

I have officially developed a slight obsession with picking skin off my lips :( maybe its because there isn't anything on my face to pick at :) Or maybe its cause I like my lips to be smooth so I pick at them until there is an equal amount of skin missing off my lips-Sigh Regardless, they look horrible. I need to probably switch up my lip treatment, its not working anymore.

Omg, AQUAPHOR! I keep it in every room of my house and a couple in my purse. I put it on my lips religiously and they've stayed soft and smooth since I discovered it. Sometimes I wake up in the morning my lips are dry since I wasnt able to apply it throughout the night, but as soon as I get it on my lips again... instant heaven. I cant stress enough how much better this stuff has made the experience for me. I probably would have quit by now without it.

(Month 4 of 5 on 60mg a day)

Yes I think I need to give Aquaphor another chance, it didn't seem to be doing anything back when I first started Accutane but thats been awhile. I've been using Dr Dans and it worked really great at first but I think my lips are becoming immune. Time to switch it up thanks girls!

Day 129:

Had my appt Friday, dr said the odds are good for me that I may only need one course. He said something to the effects of due to my age and due to not having a cyst past month 4, so thats good news! And he also bumped me to 80mg now. Looks like I am definitely going to have to start moisturizing, my face is dry now I can only imagine what it will be like in a months time.

Awesome progress!! We are ALMOST there. I have another 18 days left I think. I cannot wait to be off this medication. I got my first eye infection yesterday. Waaaaaaaa! :( nothing major, just a little swollen and irritated in the tear duct of my eye. Im hoping it will resolve itself in a day or so. Aquaphor is the best for my lips, as long as I keep it on constantly. I also get these red... sometimes itchy patches on my arms and one on my leg. Hope that resolves when I am done. Haha. It is so super nice though to be able to get up in the morning and not have to worry about breakouts and what I will see in the mirror. I just see clear, beautiful, although slightly red, skin. Its really amazing. Hang in there girlie...you can do this!!! I hope the 80mg isn't much different for you in the side effects department.

I have been using the BEST moisturizer called Atopalm intensive moisturizing cream on my face and it has worked wonders. I just order it from amazon and a pretty good size jar is under $20. In case you are in need of a great moisturizer. :)

Hey Erin! Oh no I hate the eye infections :( they're the worst Hope its clearing up for you! You only have 18 days left? Jealous! I think I still have another month. And I'm hoping 80mg doesn't do some crazy side effects. Who would of known the time would fly by so fast! So thankful for accutane Don't forget to let me know how it goes for you after accutane, wish you the best! It was so nice to have you so close to my treatment, its like we went through it together! And thanks for the moisturizer suggestion, I'm going to have to try it out

I agree that this treatment is going fast! I'm starting my 4th month and it seriously feels like I started yesterday! I thought it would be more like pregnancy which seems to drag on!

Glad to hear its going fast for you too Rachel! I've always heard the 4th month is the best because this is when most start clearing up completely, so yay!!

Day 138:

Since being bumped up to 80mg I have gotten about 4-5 breakouts, only minor ones. I would seriously throw one heck of a fit if I ended up getting cysts again, so thankfully these are just small breakouts that go away in a couple days. Wouldn't that be the worst to be on my last month and 1/2 and finally have the dreaded IB?! No thank you! Other than breaking out I haven't noticed much of a difference going from 60 to 80mg. The pills are bigger, that's about it!

I just took my LAST pill today!!!!!!!! I can't believe it has been 5 months and I am finally done! It has been a wild and sometimes difficult ride but I am so glad I did it. I am hoping for the best that my skin will stay clear and beautiful. Cannot wait to have normal lips again, eyes, nose, earlobes (lol), and hair...I love that I don't have to wash it as much, but it did get pretty dry towards the end. Oh and to not have achy muscles and joints will be AMAZING.

I really enjoyed reading your posts about your experience since we were pretty much at the same stage the whole time. :)

Here's hoping for the best and for both of us having clear skin!

xo

Thank you!! Ok so I am kinda annoyed and I need to be brought back to reality. So are we supposed to expect completely clear, never another pimple ever again? Cause I got one yesterday on my hairline. It's pretty small and I'm sure it will be gone in a day or so but I'm just pissed! Ya know? I want to be totally completely clear. Honestly the whole time on accutane I still got a spot here and there even in the last month...tiny and last only a day or two but still. I figure if I go through accutane I don't want ANY!! I guess I can't expect perfection and I need to look at how much better my skin is now than before I started.

I just read on another forum that you should be completely clear for 2 months. Not sure if thats accurate or not, but it says the chances of relapse go down if they do not stop Accutane until 2 months without a breakout. I'm pretty much clear too, but I do get a minor breakout from time to time, they only last a day or 2 but I still get them. I couldn't imagine how long it would take me to be completely clear for 2 months. Did your dr say anything to you about this? I sure hope thats not the case :*(

Thanks for the reply! Things seem to be calmed down now. A couple tiny little bumps and I mean tiny but I consider myself to be pretty much clear now. I am just super critical of my skin now. If I get another larger one I will def be calling my derm!!

So it has been 5 days since my last pill and OMG my lips are soooooooo much better. I don't have to apply aquaphor every 20 mins...I only need it every few hours now and they aren't peeling off anymore. It's amazing!! I can probably try to wear lipstick again. My eyes are also a lot better and my nose is pretty much back to normal. It's amazing how fast the body adjusts. Hang in there!!! You are almost done!

I'm in month 4 now and my lips have still not gotten dry! It's insane. I'm still breaking out quite a bit. I was bumped up to 80 mg 3 weeks ago and it's better, but I have three spots right now. I can't imagine being spot free for 2 months! I want this to work so bad! Good luck to you guys nearing the end of treatment!

I am so close I can feel it Lol just a little bit longer

Rachel, how in the heck did you get so lucky?! My lips hate me, seriously if they could disown me, they probably would! Were you ever on 60mgs? I noticed a difference from 40 to 60 but nothing from 60 to 80mgs. But I am so happy to be on 80mgs now. Best wishes to you!

I'm on 80 mgs now. Last month my doc agreed to jump from 40-80 mg as long as my bloodwork stayed ok. So far so good! On 80 I still don't have any symptoms, but dry eyes at night and irregular periods. I haven't had one since August! I know I'm not pregnant because I've had bloodwork 3 times since then, but it's annoying. My breakouts are less. In the 3 weeks I've been on 80 I've gotten only 3 new spots, where it was more often. She warned me I might have IB again, but I haven't yet. I start month 5 in about a week and a half. I can't believe I'm still not clear. Hopefully soon!

You are looking fantastic!!!!

Ladies quick question I only have 3 more weeks.....Almost done!!! But has anyone experienced shedding while on accutane. I know people say your hair grows back but I'm concerned because when it sheds the follicle is coming out with my hair. I was on 40 mg in may, 60 mg in June, 80 mg in July and Aug, 100 mg in Sept, and 120 now. I noticed the shedding at the end of Aug :( But on the flip side my skin is looking amazing!! Fingers crossed that the acne will stay away. And this might sound crazy but my acne and scarring was so horrible losing hair isn't the worst thing (As long as it grows back lol) and being able to look in the mirror and not have my make routine take forever anymore is amazing!!! Anyways hope to hear back, hope everyone journey is going well.

I'm quite positive your hair will grow back :) Mine was shedding a lot about a month ago and it has now stopped even though I'm still on accutane and still have 3 months to go. The main thing is to wash your hair less and use moisturizing products in your hair (try a coconut oil overnight hair mask). There are also tons of supplements and treatments you can do for your hair that will help. You are on a higher dosage so that's probably why you're noticing shedding, and I'm sure it will stop once you're off the medication. I wouldn't worry about it :)

I noticed increased hair shedding as well, starting about my second month (I'm about to complete my fourth month on 40mg). My thinning is mainly at the temples, which is easy to hide. But whether this is from Accutane or the fact that I'm pre-menopausal, my doctor can't say. She did say that true hair loss on Accutane is VERY rare, maybe one in 10,000 patients. AND that it always grows back, but can take up to a year to do so. If it becomes noticeable, she recommends Rogaine, which is apparently very effective. But, I'm not about to add yet another step to my morning and evening routine. I'll wait about a year after my course finishes, and if I notice substantial thinning during that time, with start therapy then.

As Hello Accutane mentions above, dry scalp and brittle hair can contribute, too. So along with true shedding you mention (from the root), there is the risk of breakage. Before Accutane, I washed and conditioned my hair every other day. Now, it's about once a week. If I have a particularly sweaty workout, I'll rinse it out and let it dry naturally. Otherwise, it looks just finemy style lasts longer, too.

Glad to hear you're clear! And how are you tolerating those high doses? I haven't heard of anyone taking more than 80mg a day. I'll need to be bumped up myself, and it's interesting to know that there are pills higher than 80mg.
