Just curious...have you considered the effects of long term accutane? Like on your liver and other organs? I took accutane too, and I never considered it a long term solution because of the negative systemic side effects. Right now I'm controlling my oily skin with Vitamin C and D.

Hi,you are so lucky living in a normal country:-)i had to fight to have isotretinoin prescribed for the first time and i was 24!now im 30 and taking a low dose of it when i feel i need to:-)but this is the only thing actually works for me and i refuse to live with acne...lost far too many years fighting with it..no idea why doctors in some countries are so careful about iso...i will take it for the rest of my life if necessary:-)

Thanks mog!

Guys, in only taking 10mg a week! You have to understand that this is absolutely nothing! It would take me many years to catch up to someone who took a full dose for 5 months! So this is actually a lot less harmful. Hehe, once I pass the 2 year mark... We can start talking about long term side effects, but as of now I cannot because I am taking so little... My doc says it's almost laughable. But hey it works!

Nice man! Good to hear that you are beating acne. Yeah I felt the same way. No way I'm letting acne take more years of my youth away! This is when we should be our best! I'm going to take this as long as it ain't killing me. Right now it helps me love my skin and helps me enjoy life without worries.

Update :

Still going strong! Zero side effects now! Skin is 100 clear and smooth. And it's only been less than 2months!

Scratch that it has been 69 days since I took 10 mg a Week. Not a day!

Hey thanks Bro. 20mg is good since that is what the patients in the low dose study did. Everyone's skin and accutane history is different so find a good balance.

Going out to meet some girls right now, and my skin ain't holding me back! Exactly 82 days since I started this regimen and it has been great. Best part is that I don't have to use a crazy cleanser or lotion. Just cetaphil gentle cleanser and sunscreen lotion and I'm good. Skin is smooth, white, even, moist, and clear.

Only you guys know I do this, even when people compliment my skin and ask how I do it, I do not say. Buti will tell them soon since I am sure this works and they cannot say I am simply crazy for doing this since my skin is abnormally clear. Hehe. Keep it up guys!

Wow, you must be pretty excited. I was thrilled when I first took tane. Tell me how it goes and stay strong! Accutane is worth it! Do a full course once, at least once. Then afterwards, you can decide on low dose if the acne comes back. No school, just working atm!

Hey yunchang,

I read your thread and was very intrigued by it. I'm curious how severe your acne was before you started this ultra low accutane regimen? I am on my 6th day of my 3rd accutane course and I really can't wait for the results to come any sooner since my jawline/back hairline is covered in cysts right now. I'm going to do a full course since my 2nd course was only taken for about 4 months which was a few months shy of a full course. I weigh just a bit lighter than you and I'm currently on 30mg per day. Although accutane has worked well for me the past two times, I always relapse, and this time I'm obviously fearful of relapsing again as well as facing all of the side effects again. I can only pray for success, but if it doesn't work, I might look into your regimen since accutane has been the only thing that has ever worked for me. I have moderately-severe acne with all the cysts I get, so I'm wondering if it would work if I needed to try it later on.

Cheers, buddy. I wish you continued success with your regimen.

Hey Cystyjam!

I truly wish that 3rd time is the charm for you. Acne is a pain and accutane is a real battle...

My acne before I did this low dose regimen was:

Persistent

Oily skin (but not as bad as before my 1st course of Accutane)

Mild to Moderate acne (mostly mild)

So to be honest, it was not bad acne. God knows people have it much worse. But I am a person who has done 2 treatments of Accutane, has had persistent acne since my teens, and skin type is very oily (shine all day). I got sick of it, and like you, Accutane has been the only thing that has worked. I am kinda like a guinea pig for all you guys, I will keep taking this and keep reporting back.

Update:

No side effects

Clear skin

Balanced oil levels

Smooth skin (no exfoliation needed since the Accutane does it for me)

Even toned

No dry skin or eyes

Lips are not peeling or dry

If I do get acne, it is very small and it goes away in a day. I truly have 99%-100% clear skin. Not red skin. Not flaky dry skin. Moist, creamy white, clear and even skin.

I am thinking about doing 20mg a day to try and lower my oil levels a wee bit more. Hopefully, it doesn't drop too low but reaches a good equilibrium.

Keep in touch and ask me anything!

Congratulations, man! Your results sound great.

Can I ask you a question or two?

Exactly how much accutane have you taken? 10 mg a day? or 10 mg a week?

I want to do a low dose too, for oily skin and blackheads, but I'm very anxious I might get rosacea as I'm very pale and already pretty red in my T-zone.

Thank you, I hope the side-effects stay away for you!

10 mg a week =)

I started 20 mg and I think it broke me out. I have one blemish (first in a long time)! Hoping it's just initial breakout, it's just one and nothing else is coming up. Will keep you guys updated!

No side effects so far.

I heard that low dose accutane is great for rosacea. ask your doc.

I got a few more blemishes that appear as small red spots. So far none of them have come to a head. I think it's cuz I doubled the amount of accutane I'm taking and it's doing its job bringing everything to the surface. Good thing is everything is going away in one day and they are very small. I'll keep u guys posted on this situation and report back. Hopefully it's just cuz of me taking 20 mg instead of 10 mg a week.

Hey yunchang! It's nice to read your log about ultra low dose Accutane. I'm on my second course. My first course was a "normal" course (don't remember the exact dosage), but I relapsed after about one and a half-two years. My new dermatologist has started me taking 20 mg every other day for the time being and told me that when I go back to see him in two months, we'll change to 20mg a week! I'm a bit skeptical, I must admit, but I'm only on day 3 and it already seems to making a huge difference. I hope your good results continue, it gives me hope for when I move down to 20 mg a week!

No problem! This log has been good for me too. Dude, my remission was like in 4 months, so you are lucky! yeah 20mg a week is ultra low dose and I bet your doc is doing that as a maintenance course. Which is great because it really works. Stay strong!

Update:

All blemishes have disappeared. False alarm ;) Maybe initial breakout from the 20mg or something I ate?

Yeah, I'm sure that's what he's doing. I had just never read much about maintenance therapy with Accutane until after he prescribed it to me. I've done a bit more research and it seems like it could definitely be the way to go, although I do wonder if I could just use Tazorac or Retin-A after a few months of Accutane as maintenance instead. Yeah, creams/gels are annoying, but I think it's probably a safer long-term solution. In any case, I'm willing to try this for at least a few months!

I seriously can't believe how great my skin already looks! I have a tiny whitehead that's been there since I started, but it just keeps getting gradually smaller. I'm still using a bit of azelaic acid 20% every night since my skin isn't too dry and I'm on such a low dose of Accutane. I want the hyperpigmentation from my most recent breakout gone ASAP and it should help prevent an initial breakout too. We'll see. Keep us updated on your experiment!

yeah yeah! glad to hear it is working so soon, just let it do it's job and wear sunscreen! The accutane accelerates skin exfoliation so your dark spots and acne marks will gradually fade.

Hey if creams work for you, I say do it! Creams are awesome too.

Update :

Been on 20mg and the oil has gone down even further and of course there is no acne. It's weird, I used to have bad oily, splotchy, red, and acne skin. But now I have the best skin in my school. It's awesome how isotretinoin clears acne by reducing oil but it also has th effect of shedding skin so ur skin is much more even. So far so good! Staying on 20mg!

Hey yunchang, I am planning to take low dosage of accutane. Like 20mg every 3 days, means 1 week is around 40mg. Will it cause my face to blush? Or will if have any noticible side effects?

damn you are cut bro. gym for life! 40 mg is still ultra low dose and it should not cause your face to blush. you should see very little side effects. yes, you will have drier than normal lips and skin, but nothing annoying. Keep me updated bro!

Update:

Went to the club a few days ago...and I hated it! Ya know why?! Cuz it was too damn dark for people to appreciate my skin! Hehe. Seriously, I wanted so bad for them to brighten the lights in there. Good times.

It's been a little over 21 days since I started 20 mg and it's been good so far. However, I started to get random tiny whiteheads. I'm sure the 20mg is doing it's job since my lips are drier than when I was on 10 mg, however, I will start 30 mg to see if I can handle the increase in side effects. Kinda hoping now to find the perfect dosage for me. Still have not found it, but I have not had this good skin since I was pre-teen so I will keep soldiering on!

Update:

Bit upset right now. Face was good this morning but now there is a blemish appearing on my face. Not sure what is happening. Did I eat something wrong or is this the accutane bringing everything out to the surface? Hopefully, it will be gone by tomorrow. I will keep you guys updated!
