Oh good grief please don't let your feet get to the stage where they'll need amputation!! You'll get used to 60mg don't worry.

Pleased you're progressing though, my lips are a mess at the moment, what are you using exactly? I will get something from the Doctor's if I need to.

I had my photo taken for the newspaper the other day (there's a singing festival on where I live, and I'm basically winning everything and am enjoying a bit of local notoriety!) and it looked like I had herpes, I was so embarrassed. Big scabs on corners of my mouth and also on my lip. I felt I needed to explain that I had a 'tane lips, but nobody would understand what that meant...

Ah, congrats on winning everything. That's pretty cool! I was using just Hydro cream 1% and applying a thin layer 2-4 x a day, but now it's gone back to how it was. I was paranoid and self consious about my skin, now it's my lips. Though from the hydro cream I no longer have the scabs that you described. Just dry, cracked, a bit bloody sometimes, plus redness all around my lips so I look like a clown! Are your lips peeling from the inside too? Mine are, and then this horrible white coating appears on the inside of my lips and it sometimes spreads to the outside of my lips. That's what I get most paranoid about; the white coating. Bleurgh! How's your course going other than the lips?

Okay, yes I have peeling lips inside also. The corners are so sore it's unreal. If they dry out, they crack when I go to sing, then bleed, but if I keep them moisturised they just don't seem to want to heal. Going well though, I only have 4 boxes of pills left so it looks like I should be finished soon! You must be about done?

How come you're finishing so soon? Would you have reaches the min amount to take for your weight? I have at least another 2 months on it my Derm said. My back acne is being so stubborn and not improving anyway so can see it being extended. Have you given the hydro cream a go? If you find another miracle cure, let me know!

When I went for my consultation the Dermatologist said I would only need four months' worth of 60mg. You were on 40mg for a while weren't you? I'm fairly "solid" for my height so I was on 60mg from after the first week. It seems to be at its optimum now, I am really feeling the effects!

Haven't had a chance to get to Boots yet, this last week has been mental busy, but I think I have some in my crates of crap I brought back from uni so I'll dig it out :)

Wheey, you're back! Consultant said a couple of months ago she hopes I'll finish my last month in July. Have appointment next week so hopefully be a bit clearer. But back still not clearing so could be longer. Will take a peek at your log once I've updated mine smile.png

Day 113

So what to report? My face is completely clear still. Will attach a picture below. My chest has been too for a long time which is fab. Back still isn't clearing sad.png I hate now it's getting warmer and summer is approaching so is playing on my mind a bit. I have my next Derm appointment next week (flies by!) so will see what she says and whether she ups my dose (max dosage for me can be 70mg. Currently on 60mg).

Side effects, same old thing. No new side effects, no side effects I've listed recently have disappeared. Oh, though do seem to get small scabs in the corner of my eyes each day. Antibiotics helped clear my blister infections. This weekend I celebrated my shoes finally not rubbing me. What's happened today? Three new ones have appeared in different places sodding things! They are so comfy though and fit perfectly, so I'm putting it down to the tablets thinning the skin. So bye bye shoes I think, and may have to purchase something tomorrow.

We've had lovely weather here and sunbathed unplanned so wasn't armed with suncream. I've always tanned easily but worried about the sensitivity to the sun as we've all been warned. Didn't burn at all much to my surprise. Could just feel my skin on my face getting tight. Has just made my skin dry on my body and flake.

Those that are reading this querying whether to go on the tablets because of the side effects; In my opinion go for it! I prepared myself for a real rough ride, but I've been pleasantly surprised. Yeah I have a few side effects, some of which are a pain in the bum, but they are more than manageable and the massive massive pro defintely outweighs the side effects!

Thanks for taking the time writing these logs. I was quite hesitant to contact my GP and ask for a referral to a derm to get a prescription, but reading these logs here on acne.org show what wonders this drug can do.

I have just started my Roaccutane treatment and I cannot wait to get as clear skin as you have :D

The journey has come to an end......

So after I have popped my last 3 pills tonight, I have finished my course!

I had an appointment on Tuesday. My consultant had to be somewhere so instead I saw the specialist Derm Nurse. She worked out how much I've had so far, and once calculated it said I have had the correct amount and they are no longer licensed to prescribe me anymore. I have literally just double checked this and I have taken approx 7,800 mg (I worked out at the beginning that for my weight I can take between min 7,200- 9,600mg max.) She mentioned about 125mg for my weight, and that's what I used to work out my overall dosage, so maybe in the UK they are only licened to prescribe the minimum amount. Okay, I feel a bit better now as I was worried she calculated it wrong.

It has literally been in the last week my back has been completely clear (woo!) so I was very reluctant to come off it but right there and then I had no choice. She has booked me to see the Consultant in two months time. Has also prescribed me Duac for any spots that may appear on my back and told me to call if my face breaks out again (think she was saying it more for reassurance, as she could see I was anxious).

Whilst I'm nervous about coming off the (in my eyes) miracle drug, I can't wait to get rid of the sodding side effects. The one side effect I can't wait to go is my dry lips. Did not know the meaning of dry lips before now. Am quite excited actually lol! Just another month to ride out and should all be back to normal hopefully with still flawless skin.

I'm still gobsmacked at how clear my skin is. I am so, so lucky to be left with no scarring on my face and have no evidence whatsoever of acne. I have scarring on my back which they said will be discussed at my next appointment.

I cannot believe I'm at the end. Never thought I would reach the end when I began the journey and was envious of those further on in the treatment. Those in the early days who maybe suffering with IB, or side effects, just remember the long term goal. Those losing hope? Be patient, it will happen.

Not only has it fixed the outside of me, it has fixed me inside too. It has given me my confidence back. smile.png

7 days post Roaccutane.

I found a few more days worth lying around, so I finished the course exactly 7 days ago. For the past 3 days my face has become covered in small pimples *sigh*. Knew it was too good to be true. My lips are already pretty much back to normal too......

It's meant to be in the system for up to a month after finishing taking it, so not sure what is going on. Going to call my Dermatologist I think.

I was just about to comment saying how beautiful your skin is looking when I read this post. I am so genuinely disappointed for you :(

Let us know how you get on, will be sending love your way nod.gif

Yeah hope everything works out I've heard of people having breakouts once they stop but it goes away and stays away after that. That's gotta be it.

Thanks!

Well I decided to hold off calling the Dermatologist as I am just so, so happy to be off the tablets. Towards the last 2-3 weeks I woke up every morning and my lips were so sore, cracked and had been bleeding through out the night and was reaching the point where I just couldn't take it anymore. Nicest feeling having normal lips again.

Anyway, so I used Epiduo that I was given by my Derm before I started the treatment and that has helped. Now I currently have no visible ones, just a couple of small under skin pimples. So chuffed.

So clear skin and normal lips again=cloud 9!

Back in August to discuss scarring treatment for my back.

Tim714- I never knew that, so thanks for informing me as I was worried I had been taken off it too soon. Do you know how long it can go on for?

No sorry but I know I've read about it on here somewhere. But I've also read on here that it continues working in your system for a month after you stop taking it so probably within that timeframe. Again sorry I'm not 100% sure on that but it sounds like you've got it under control. Hopefully it stays that way.

hi! i have used accutane 3 times and i want to tell you not to worry. just gotta be realistic and know that tane is not a cure and you will get acne sometimes and it might come back. BUT! it is always not as bad as before! no one in the world can stay 100% clear all the time ^^ I can see that Tane really helped you...l am so glad for you!

wait about a year and see how your skin does before you do anything drastic.
