Day 34
Woke up with a loot of peeling and redness, but not so much by day's end. Nothing new has really popped up, and those inflamed lesions haven't seen much action either. I'm also peeling a lot on the legs, but it's not really noticeable since I have the benefit of leg hair.
I'm getting cut, scraped, and burned like crazy in this metalworking class I'm in... it's kinda ridiculous, minor scratches are leaving big red marks and the nicks aren't healing. I think I've cleaned out the studio's first aid kit of all its band-aids.
Day 37
The sides of my face are in an acne eruption! I will be shocked if these whiteheads don't leave large red marks/minor scarring. A couple are cystic. Less than in love with my face right now, but I figure it all had to come up anyway, so now's as good a time as ever. I'll be back in school a month from now, I'm just hoping things improve by then. It might just be that more time on Accutane has led to more acne coming up, but I think it's safe to say that my body is definitely feeling the doubled dosage.
People taking two pills a day, how important is it to have your doses timed and far apart? Right now I'm usually taking one with lunch and one with dinner, but I occasionally forget one and take it late at night instead.

I have hope that things will definitely clear up for you in a month from now! That's quite a bit of healing time. As for the staying out of the sun...thats the best thing for healing red marks. Mine have significantly reduced from less time in the sun. Vitamin D supplements can also help. Man, accutane sounds like a rigorous journey. I admire your daily posting of your progress!

Hey man! I'm on the same day as you are and I also recently had a cyst popping out, but I was kinda glad it did. I've felt that thing under my skin almost since the day I statared the course(over a month). I like to think it would have came up anyway, so might aswell get it over with. It's huge. I mean when I look in the mirror, you can see how it sticks out from my jawbone.
And about the timing, my derm told me to take both of the pills at the same time, with food.
Day 38
I've got some inflamed stuff coming up on my right cheek... a lot of redness, but only very small heads. I think all of this new acne might qualify as an initial breakout. Also, my nose was like 90% clear of blackheads (visibly), but even more stuff seems to be coming out of the pores there. On the upside, those whiteheads on the side of my face look like they'll fall off within the next few days.

Yeah, from what I've read/seen things tend to get better around month 3/4. I was having pretty linear progress up until now, but I'm guessing that may be the case for me. My red marks have gotten a bit better over the past couple of months; not sure if it's due to Accutane or just time, but they have improved some.

That's good that it finally came up . I'm lucky that I don't currently have any cysts or nodules large enough to actually change the shape of my face. Also, weird about the pills, the pharmacist told me to take the pills at different times.
Hey
My derm asked me at my last appointment when I had been taking my pills (30mg a day) and I told her I was taking them in the morning with my breakfast. She bumped me up to 70mg a day because my side effects have been minimal and said to take them together with my dinner. Apparently taking them with a big meal helps the accutane absorb into your body. I have been doing that since then and it has worked out really well because I'm not getting the fatigue and groggyness during the day anymore. Maybe you should try that Your actually the first person I've noticed saying they take the pills at different times each day.
Day 39
Man oh man, things keep popping up and won't go away. Two new spots, one just below my nose and one just above my lip (growing resemblance to herpes). I couldn't shower yesterday though, so there's that.
It would certainly be nice to not have to worry about forgetting one dose, but I might call the pharmacy or derm's office just to make sure; the medicine info sheet that comes with Claravis instructs you to take a divided dose. I do take them with meals, though (lunch/dinner or lunch/post-dinner meal).
Day 40
Good news: the three spots on the side of my face have gotten a lot smaller. Bad news: this thing on my right cheek has gotten mammoth. Left cheek doesn't look too bad. Forehead getting some stuff now, but nothing big. I just wish the larger lesions would go away more quickly, I'm scared that I'm gonna accidentally pop one and risk a deep red mark or scar. Oh, and blister pack #5 done, yay
2nd pic is a bit too flattering due to a little shakiness-- unfortunately, my red marks from pre-Accutane have not magically disappeared
Nice log mate, believe it or not ive got my first appointment in 65minues (live 20 from the hospital) with the derm. "im shitting bricks" would be the understatement of the century but reading a few of these logs is keeping me a bit settled lol! Had blood test almost 2 weeks ago and pretty sure they will suggest/put me on accutane.
Keep up the progress, ill probably keep my own log now i know how much these things help and inform others lol.
Onwards and upwards
Good luck! Accutane is a bit of a risk and can be hellish when you're on it, but if you've exhausted the other options and you know it's what you want, you're probably making the right decision. I'm really just a whiner, get Aquaphor and something for moisturizing (I'd suggest CeraVe but it's a US-only brand) and you'll make it just fine.
Day 44
Things are now starting to peel and look like they'll go away fairly soon. Significant peeling on nose and... feet? I'm gonna pick up a non-comedogenic sunblock (I don't think the one I'm using right now is) to help with my red marks.
I've been tossing around the idea of cutting out the majority of dairy in my diet, but I'm not sure. I think Accutane is going to clear things up regardless of whether dairy contributes to my acne, but I'm wondering if removing it would reduce inflammation.
hang in there man, this is the toughest part! day 18 - 80 ish is usually when people experience breakouts. maybe you'll get lucky and it will only be till the third month!
good luck with your course.
JB
Thanks . Yeah, I'd like to see my breaking out gone for the most part by day 70-80 or so, but I don't have much of a say in it.
Day 45 -- 1/4 done (woah)
The spot on my cheek had its first peel, and the spot on my lip looks like it's about to. They're both still raised and pretty red, but that's ok. Still getting cut up, and I've had a couple wounds re-open and it stiiiings oh god it stings. No lack of sunblock today
Day 46
New cyst on chin, some more activity on right cheek. Things aren't looking quite so inflamed, which is good. Saw too much sun today, though.
Throwing in an older pic of my acne just because. It's actually mostly red marks in this photo; my red marks get unfortunately severe.
My acne's been less severe recently, but a bit more widespread.
Day 47
Still breaking out! Been well over a week now. New stuff on the forehead. Things have been slow to turn over/fall off lately. Looking at 20-30 active spots total right now; that sounds worse than it is, considering its all over the face and some are small, but it definitely contrasts around day 30 when I had maybe two actives tops.
Day 49 | Week 7
Last couple of weeks haven't been so good for my face overall. Side effects have been pretty minimal, so I have that to be happy about, but I'm definitely having a breakout. It's been hard to regulate when I take my pills... it's also been hard to regulate a lot of other stuff, e.g. sleep. Been really stressed and a bit depressed-- not about the acne, but I'm sure that it's not helping things. My face still looks awful in daylight. I've had some more scars come up (mostly ice pick though) and lots of PIH, so I'm basically coming to terms with the likely fact that I won't be one of the people ending Accutane with flawless skin. There's still lots of clearing and healing to be done, though, so I have plenty to look forward to . I know that I might be breaking out for several more weeks. Still hoping that by day 80-100 the "face getting better" stage occurs/resumes.
Also, everything is bleeding/has scabbed with blood and I don't know why, I haven't been at all rough with my face.
Day 51
Too early to tell whether the breakout's done (or near it), but in general things have been getting better over the past few days. I'm just really focused on not picking at anything and keeping up w/ the sunblock. Fwiw, I'm using the CeraVe cleanser daily at night and lightly patting dry after a shower. I've got the 'tane burn going on pretty hard.
Getting eczema patches again
Day 53
For the most part things are at a stall, which I'll take over the breakout I'd been having. A couple new spots since day 51. Basically all of the large spots I've gotten within the past week or two are still there; they're doing their rounds of peeling, just very stubbornly. Face has shown more peeling recently... which makes me happy, I'm seeing some centralized areas of peeling on my ruddy, spotty, cheeks that I wasn't (/am not) sure would (/will) peel and get better.
I have started winding back my sleep schedule, which is unfortunate because I usually get to bed past 4 in the summer. I don't know why I do that.
Oh, one nasty side effect: the eczema on my arms has flared up like crazy recently. No idea what caused it; I'm just trying to keep it down with moisturizer.
