My Accutane Journey: Round Two!

You guys...I'm pissed. iPledge sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My doctor told me I could pick up my Rx today, but I also had to have blood drawn this morning so in my mind, it didn't make sense that I could have my blood drawn and then go get the Rx right away. Surprise surprise, when I went to the pharmacy, I was denied because of iPledge. Now I have to wait 2-3 more days for the blood results to put into the system, then I take the online test, THEN I GO GET IT.

I got upset and yelled and cried a little cause today is my birthday, so before I could do anything fun or even eat anything, I had to get blood drawn and then wait around in the pharmacy figuring it out. An hour and a half later, I went home and could barely eat breakfast because I was upset.

I've calmed down some, because my fiance planned a day for us to go canoeing in Lake Washington. We're also going to eat at one of my favorite places in Seattle called Chaco Canyon. It's a vegetarian/raw foods place where they have UHMAZING sandwiches with hummus or mushrooms, avocado, and fresh salads. I'm obsessed with their chocolate espresso smoothie made with bananas and hemp milk. It's like a healthy version of a frappuccino.

Even though this day started out super shitty, I think it's going to improve by bounds and leaps. :)

Aww I am so sorry to hear this! iPledge is a big ol pain in the ass. Sorry to say it doesn't get better either. According to my derm ipledge doesn't use any blood results in their system. Just the pregnancy test. Maybe call your derm and ask about that. Happy Birthday Gina and your day will get better!

Aw, happy birthday!!!!

Sorry to hear about your iPledge issue. It is super confusing & really a hassle to have to do every single month! I hate it.

I hope the rest of your birthday gets better & that you enjoy it! I want to go canoeing. 🙂

I hope you don't let it ruin the rest of your bday! iPledge IS super fucking confusing... the dates my derm give me sometimes don't match up with the ones on the website and then it's a huge pain in the ass trying to figure out which of the conflicting dates actually is the real one. I would follow the dates on iPledge, though, since you're right--the pharmacy won't let you get the prescription until iPledge says it's ok. You'll get your pills soon enough! Try not to stress!

hello fellow accutane users. let us all have clear skin soon!

i know ipledge is a pain but i usually just make my derm apt for every 30-31 days and i try to get my appointment for the afternoon time so that morning i can go get my blood drawn fasting and when i meet w/ my derm in the afternoon she has all the blood work back so we go in her office and look at the labs and do the ipledge thing together and therefore she can prescribe it right there. all i have to wait is for the pharmacy to fill it which is like an hour. it's been working the past two times. idk if that helps anyone but it is a pain going every month for blood and appointment and pharmacy ect...

Thanks, guys!!!!!! It really turned out to be a perfect day, full of yummy food, canoeing, and sunshine. In a way, not getting my Rx today was a blessing in disguise, because then I could be out in the sun seriously all day and not worry about feeling weird or scared about the effects.

Leopard: that sounds like a great plan, but I'm still confused cause it is effing confusing. How do you get the labs first? Doesn't your doctor need to put an order in? Do you just have a standing order or do you ask your derm to date the labs for the same day as your appointment? Also, even though I fasted today the lab tech said I didn't need to do that anymore. Wuuuut?

Veruca salt: my iPledge dates don't match up as well, which is how I got into this mess in the first place. I think if you're going to make a system like this, why don't you just have the derms run it, have us answer the questions each month at the derm's office, instead of using some crappy national computer system separate from the derms? Fail.

My dermatologist office draws my blood right there, prescribes me the medication and I fill it that day. They call me the next day with the results. According to my derm it's not blood results that ipledge uses its just the pregnancy tests. They don't give a shit about our health, they are just watching the other companies backs for the birth defects and other law suits. I go see my derm and 5 minutes later when I get home I can complete my ipledge assuming I'm not locked out haha. I can have the meds in my hand 35 minutes later. So I'm not sure why it is you are needing to wait any longer, either way it sucks.

I agree I think the derms run it is a good idea. I'm sure it started with a good thought like that and it's fallen off track and now is all screwy. Atleast I would like to think it was based off a good idea 🙂

Glad to hear you enjoyed your bday! It sounds loverly 🙂

By the way I was told not to fast for my blood tests aswell. Some guy on here told me how stupid I am for not fasting before hand and that my derm isn't responsible and shouldn't be prescribing the medication period. Jerk. Who knows all derms are different and require different things. I for one am happy I don't have to fast every month. Although my apps are usually at 8:30ish in the am so I 9 times of out 10 haven't ate since dinner the night before..

Hmmmm yeah, see the way you do it makes SENSE. I go to a dermatologist in a large medical complex downtown where the lab is on the 4th floor and the doctor is on the 7th floor. So it would make sense that I could literally go get my blood test that day and have them enter it into the computer, but the nurse in the doctor's office claims that it takes the lab 2-3 days to process it. I think they are just so backed up with all these blood draws. I feel like a tiny screw in a big mean medical machine (a.k.a. I'm the one getting SCREWED. Hah sorry, I make bad jokes). She said she would call me when the results came in...still, no makey sensey. As long as all this is in the 7 day window, I'm fine.

I'm praying that it all works out.

Hahaha I like your joke, made me laugh! Your lab must be taking in a lot of orders in that case. My derm office is on its own in a business complex. They run their own lab and all that good stuff so I get mine back within 24 hours. Sorry it's been such a pain in the ass though. We learn month by month what works better and usually can talk to our derms and get things figured out. Hopefully this is the case for you aswell. It does seem things are working alittle backwards in your case though. Bummer me no likey

Hello,

I just wanted to let you know I know exactly what you're going through. I went on Accutane about 6 months ago and it was probably the worst experience of my life. I felt like an absolute alien and a lot of my class mates would constantly stare and just make me feel awkward as hell!

One thing you can be thankful for is the fact that you don't have a large amount of flaky skin on your face! My face was pretty much a complete disaster for close to 5 months.

Keep your head up and just remain positive. There were times along my treatment that I definitely didn't think I was going to be able to make it. Fast forward 6 months later, I'm perfectly clear and haven't had a blemish is quite some time. I even grew out a full beard which I've never been able to do before because it would make my skin incredibly worse.

The one great thing I took away from my treatment was how easy it was to tell who my true friends were.

Best of luck to you.

My derm wrote me a script, which requests the type of blood work that I'm supposed to be getting done, and I'm supposed to take this sheet into a lab. Since I have the script, I don't need to see the derm before my next blood test. Derm never told me to fast before getting blood drawn, but the lab tech actually did.

iPledge is absolutely ridiculous. Warnings about not getting pregnant over and over again are enough. If girls are still stupid enough to get pregnant after all that, then I'd say the manufacturer is NOT responsible. This system just makes it a huge inconvenience for all of us NORMAL ladies out there who are just trying to get clear skin and get on with our damn lives.

Thank you for sharing that!! Thats so awesome that you are clear after being off Accutane for 6 months! Congrats & I hope you remain clear! 🙂

It always makes me feel better to know that people do have success with Accutane after sticking it out during those long 5-6 months. I know the first few months are pretty much hell for a lot of people, but from reading so many logs and hearing stories like yours I know that Ill most likely be seeing a real change if I can just stick this out.

Thanks again!

Day 49

Wow! The left side of my face has cleared up very nicely! [Asides from one zit above my eyebrow.] I™m scared to talk about it on here, because every time I™ve updated about clearing¦BOOM, I have another breakout. But even the cystic pimple has decreased in size and is starting to go away. Please, please, please, please let me clear up from here! eusa_pray.gif

I™m keeping my fingers crossed that I™m not going to have another zit explosion. It feels nice to feel skin that™s not as bumpy & feels soft. :) The right side of my face is still doing it™s thing, & I™m still putting Neosporin on it at night in hopes of it healing faster.

It really does suck! Every time I think it's the end of the crazy breakouts, I'm proved wrong. But thanks! I am hoping with everything in me that I'm going to head into month 3 and make progress!! 🙂

I was going to mention this today as well but was scared since I break out EVERYTIME I mention it on here too! The fact is today is the best my face has looked in 2 months. Good lord I hope this is the turning point for me too! I started 60 MG last night so I hope all the acne that was even thinking of showing it's ugly face is shriveling up and dying a painful death. Yesterday I applied makeup and it actually looked good. I went out yesterday without feeling like everyone is looking at me. If things could continue to go in this direction I would be THRILLED. Im so scared I'm going to break out again... I am shocked with how much I have let acne destroy who I am. To be honest I don't see me when I look in the mirror. Not just visually, but mentally and emotionally I'm not me. I've become a person who hides inside and cancels plans with my best friends because I don't want them to see me like this. Clearing my acne is one of the steps I am taking to get back to ME. Thats why when I think of Accutane not working, it scares the shit out of me. For some reason I feel like this is the calm before the storm.

Jesus that was depressing. Sorry I just needed to let that out.

I am so glad your starting to heal up Katie. I think I am in love with neosporin I think it has a huge impact on why our skin has become better. I am using that stuff like it's going out of style. Me and Johnson & Johnson are hitting it off well lol

I am soo happy for the both of you! That acne deserves to dieee! I totally feel the same about that superstitious crap, I mentioned to my dad how clear and soft and amazing my forehead was a couple weeks ago, and the next day I got a GIANT whitehead smack in the middle, and then another one. Grrr.

BUT that's AWESOME that you two are makin a lot of progresss yayyy!

Neosporin is amazing, on the whitehead I popped it had scabbed up and looked nasty and now it's flaking and falling off, and not as red. I may cheat on my boyfriend with Neosporin.

I feel the EXACT same way. It's unbelievable how much acne can really destroy a person's confidence...no one really knows what that's like until they experience it themselves. The left side of my face looks awesome, & I'm hoping the right side is going to clear up as well!

I hope that you start seeing more progress now that you're on 60mg! 🙂

Accutane likes to play tricks on us, you guys. You can never believe that you're totally done with the breakouts! At least that's what I've learned. What an awesome feeling it is to have made some progress though!

I <3 Neosporin. As greasy as it makes my face look, I don't care!

Do you put some all over your pimples or only on the ones which have popped? I only put a few dabs of Polysporin cream on ones that have popped (2x/day) and it speeds healing. I LOVE polysporin. It sinks in within a minute and is not greasy. I got it in Canada when I was visiting though, so I'm sure the Neosporin cream is similar.
