Hey chicasss! How is everyone today?

It's my day off, so I'm relaxing until I go to my friends tonight!

15 DAYS ON BEING CLEAR, WHADUP!!!!!!! smile.png

I'm so happy right now, my face feels so damn smooth, and I only have a scab, no real marks YAYYYYY.

I still have 8 1/2 weeks left, which = major healing time, and I can't wait for the end result.

I think after I'm done, I'm going to buy some glo minerals pressed base, my derm recommended it, and said it provides excellent coverage without breaking you out, and that it's for people with oily skin. I don't have oily skin even without Accutane, but I'd like a tiny bit of coverage, I definitely don't need to go back to a full coverage, which I am so amazed to say,

orrr.. do any of you girlies wear powder? If so, which one works good for just a light coverage?

AHHH I'm so happy right now.

smiling_mokey.jpg

Haha Taylor I was reading this in work and almost died when I saw that monkey. 😛

15 days of being clear is FRIGGIN' AWESOME! Hell yeah! Die, acne! You are going to come out of this course looking like you never had a zit in your life!

Hmm as for powders...I really love True Match by L'Oreal. I've been using it throughout my whole course, and it has provided me with a lot of coverage. It sets my makeup in place too, so it doesn't fade.

Katieeeee!!!!! You looks soooooo pretty!

I barely noticed the lip red mark until you said something, too. tongue.png

This stuff is the shiat.

Gina, THANK YOU! 😀

It looks much better than it did last week, thank god. It was a nice herpe wannabe last week. It healed pretty fast, thank god.

This stuff IS the shit indeed! w00t.gifbanana.gif

Ahh the first blood test! Good luck!! I remember that initial waiting period. Don't worry though, the first few months might seem to drag but after that I swear it goes by like a rollercoaster ride. Bumpy, (literally lmao) but fast!

Stacey, Stacey, Stacey!! Thanks so much! I'm one happy chick. So close to being done (if I don't do another month!) But I will have reached my cumulative dose sometime this month (if I didn't already reach it by now, I probably did by this point)!

It was so nice to wake up the next day since I slept out and look in the mirror expecting to see un-covered zits, but my face looked nice. That was great. That's what I've been waiting for!!

Thank you so much! 🙂

Patience is definitely the key. I went into this course thinking that it would clear me up much quicker than it did. My IB lasted roughly 3 months. It was a hard thing to go through, but month 4 and 5 have been absolutely awesome. You will get there! 🙂

Day 134

My lips are driving me nuts¦.they won™t stop peeling. Tired of this. eusa_eh.gif

I pretty much have no actives for the first time in forever. The little jawline zit is still somewhat there, but it is a lot smaller, so I™m not even concerned about it.

Day 136

I am so exhausted, despite getting enough sleep. I've been worn out all week. Not sure what's going on there.

My face keeps getting better each day. Still very dry, but no actives and I feel great. I see myself when I look into the mirror. I couldn't ask for more, honestly. That's one of the best feelings in the world. :)

Today is my last day at my full-time job. It's definitely bittersweet to me. I've been working here full-time for over 3 years. I need to concentrate on college full-time though. It's for the best. I need to make more money. I need to take the chance to pursue my dreams while I have the chance.

On a personal note, (since you guys are like my bffs now) everyone say a prayer for my favorite uncle & godfather -- he suffered a massive heart attack on Monday and apparently he died for a little while, but they revived him and he was put into an "ice" coma. It preserves your organs and keeps things going. He was taken out of that and was awake and responsive, and they have taken the respirator out of him. These are great signs...we all thought we'd never have him back.

Aw Katie, I am so sorry to head about your uncle / godfather. I have been seeing little things about it here and there on FB and I wasn't sure what was going on. I am sad to hear about this. It sounds like all signs he is showing is amazing progress though :) I will keep you family in my thoughts and prayers! Hang in there. He will do great!

On a more positive note, congratulations on becoming a full time student! Sounds like you are taking life by the horns and going where you want to go. That is awesome. I need to start school, I just can't think of what I want to do with my life. I am scared that I will waste my time and money and end up hating what I go to school for. I need to look into it more for sure. Sounds like you were ready to get the hell out of your full time job anyways :) All good things in your future sweetie!

Yippie for no actives! Me too!! cheer.gif

Hey Katie.

So, so sorry to hear about your uncle. Feel free to vent and share anything on here. I feel really close to you guys, too! hifive.gif

Whatever happens, I hope your family is supporting each other. That is sometimes the most important thing, when you realize how precious life really is and how we need to take care of each other.

I have been SO unbelievably exhausted this week. Almost like I'm fighting an infection. Then I got incredibly nauseated driving in the car today...I almost puked. No idea what is going on, but I think the side effects from birth control + accutane can really be hard on us sometimes, especially when we're under stress. Try to get as much rest as you can, or go for relaxing walks. I just hope this accutane stuff isn't destroying our adrenals or something, cause it would suck to be tired all the time.

Congrats on moving towards your education! Don't worry about the money now, it will come later when you're edumacated. Hehe

Much love to you, your Uncle, and your family.

Day 138

First off I just want to thank you guys for sending your positive thoughts to my uncle because he is doing GREAT. It is seriously a miracle. He was dead for nearly a half hour before they got to the hospital and revived him. If it wasn't for the guy he was with who just so happened to know CPR then he would not be here today. Also, the hospital he was taken to was one of the only hospitals that could revive him. They said that the chances of him coming back from this without brain damage was very slim and I saw him yesterday - as soon as I walked up to him he said "Hi Katie." I had to hold back tears. He was his usual self, for the most part. Yesterday was one of the most amazing days for me. Life is certainly precious & miracles are definitely possible. We all think that my gram sent him back because it just wasn't his time yet. :)

Thanks for wishing me well as a student. :) I'm not so sure how exactly I am going to swing into this new lifestyle. I do need to find a nice part-time job in the next few months. Betsy -- I know exactly what you mean about not knowing what to go back to school for. I already made the mistake of going for Pharmacy Tech (blah) when I was fresh out of highschool. I have my mind set on Paralegal. I honestly don't know what else would fit me as a career. I could never be a Lawyer though, forget that. :P

Anyway - MY SKIN! My skin is doing amazing. NO FRIGGIN' ACTIVES. The little jawline bugger is finally gone & I am so happy to feel smooth skin all over my face. My cousin commented on my skin last night, too. That made me happy. The scars are certainly visible to me now that I'm clear. Ugly little indented scars...they're shallow, but I can't help but notice them. Treatment for them will come down the road...

Gina -- I'm still exhausted. Thanks, Accutane. The fatigue sucks lately. I have the next two weeks off before classes start, so I'm going to try and rest up. :)

I pretty much have no actives for the first time in forever. The little jawline zit is still somewhat there, but it is a lot smaller, so I™m not even concerned about it.

Here's a tip:

I always found my lips (even just after applying the chapstick/balm of my choice) to feel scaly; I felt like I was just hydrating dead pieces of skin (flakes) that I would then promptly chew off, creating a cut. (Sorry for the gruesome visualization! But I'm sure you know the feeling).

Something that WORKS awesome in addition to balm/gloss/whatever it is you females choose is a lip exfoliator (It's super gentle)...but perfectly poised to gently brush away those little pieces of skin that chap off during treatment. Also, most of them have menthol/peppermint in them, so they leave the surface of your lips with that "I just brushed my teeth awesome feeling- where you feel slightly normal for a few minutes). I'd apply this, wipe it off with a tissue or papertowel, and then balm-up. It kept my lips feeling- I won't say normal- but close to non-yucky, annoying as possible (except for when waking up in the morning...or afternoon if you keep my schedule after 8-12 hours of sleep and no lip-care). You can also leave these on when you're not in public until they sink in as much as possible, when you're around the house or such to give your lips a boost.

The best out of the three I've used (Bliss, Philosophy, C.O. Bigelow) was the C.O. Bigelow, and it used to be easily/relatively cheaply available from your local Bath And Body Works ($7.50) but you'd buy one get one free too. Unfortunately, they got hard to find around October of last year, and I stocked up at a B&BW in Cincinnati (Bought like 14)...At that time they were still available on C.O. Bigelow's website, but without the buy one get one free promo...which sucked. Now I don't see them at all (online either)...

Here's what it looks like:

Perhaps if you aren't OCD about buying stuff on Ebay, you could get it there...They do have a seal glued on beneath the cap.

EDIT: Bad idea....here's one of a few auctions and the price is outrageous!!!

$30.00+ and I used to get them for $3.75....Why do they discontinue awesome products? It'd be around for like 7 years too.

Bath Body Works C O Bigelow MENTHA LIP BUFFER 1070 Exfoliator Peppermint Oil [Edited link out]

An alternative (cheapest I could find on Amazon, but also available locally at Sephora/Nordstrom's/Macy's etc):

[Edited link out]

I'd use it at least once or day, it's not as scrubby as the other one, but you will notice a difference in the feel of your lips after your first application.

Hope that helps and sorry for the mention of family-tragedy...really seems like events like that has no care or mercy for anybody :/

An old friend of mine always used to joke with me that I would make a awesome lawyer because I argue till I'm right haha. I suppose it's true. Just not something I am interested in doing. Paralegal work could be cool though. All I know is I want to steer clear of ever working in customer service. I worked retail for a long time and I've learned that me and customer service don't mix well. The customer is not always right haha. I used to be a promotional product consultant for a company out here and I ended up dealing with a lot of small businesses and then with bankers from JP Morgan and chase in NY and Jersey and the small business owners were all out to try and get discounts and would always lie to me about what other reps would offer them. Like I didn't have access to their files to see, like I was a moron who would fall for their crap. Then the bankers were just asses and harsh typical new Yorkers.

Then I was assistant manager at a retail store out here and lets just say, I've had my fill out people. So business degrees are out for me. I just lose my patience with people quickly. People just don't understand that if I gave discounts on products or services all the time the company I'm working for isn't making money. I'd ask them, when a customer comes in and asks for a discount do you give it to all them? They reply well no I'd make no money, I'd be out of business. I'd reply and that's the exact reason I'm not giving you one. Makes me wonder if these people ever pay full price for something. Like when you buy toliet paper at target do you argue with the cashier about the cost?

Sorry about the rant haha. I guess I just haven't found anything I am passionate about yet. I feel like I should have already. Maybe a school counseler would be able to help me with that. If like to become a x ray tech or something like that, I just feel like once you go to school for that it is all you do. So who ever quits? When do job openings become available?

So glad to hear you uncle is doing better, he looks like he is doing great from your photos! I couldn't be happier for your family! Sounds like he is a very strong man! Also glad to hear your clear skin is still holding up! Mine too!!

<3 xoxo lots of love!

Thanks for the tip, because I completely understand what it's like to try and moisturize flaky lips. I believe that I had the same exact stuff 3 years ago (after Accutane) and then I washed it. :( But I remember I really liked it, and it was mint so that was cool. There's no way I'd pay 30 dollars for it though, wow! I'll have to keep the other stuff in mind if I do another month.

Thank you. Luckily he is doing great. :)

Customer service & retail suck BIG TIME. Sadly, I think I'm going to have to do something along those lines until I can get my degree & step out into the working world with Paralegal...but I know exactly what you mean. Having to have a happy face & please customers isn't fun, because some of them can be downright mean. That's definitely something I wouldn't be able to do for the rest of my life, haha!

I know what you mean about not finding something you are passionate about. It's a scary thought to spend all that money on school & hate what you went to school for. Of course, I get scared about Paralegal, like what if that isn't for me? I know damn well Pharmacy Tech was not hahaha. There's just way too many crap jobs or "careers" if you want to call them that out there. My fear is being 5-10 years older and stuck at some job that I hate, just making ends meet. That's why I made the decision to move back in with my mom so I could save up, quit my job, and go to school full-time. I felt like the more that I put the thought of going to school on the back-burner, that I would never actually get around to doing it.

Thanks! I am so happy that my uncle has turned around for the better. He is having surgery to have a defibrillator put in his chest, to help treat an irregular heartbeat. He may be home by Thursday. Crazy but so awesome. :)

Day 140

Hey guys! So I missed a day yesterday (woops)...but as of today, if I do a 5 month course as planned, I only have 15 MORE DAYS LEFT. Holy crap! I am pretty much at the tail-end of my Accutane journey. It wasn't easy...but I must say, it has all been worth it.

I meet with my derm on Thursday afternoon to discuss things, and whether or not I should do a sixth month. I probably have already met my cumulative dose, actually, I'm pretty sure I have by now. Plus, I am clear, so she may just want to take me off it. I'm honestly open to another month though, only because I fear that down the road my acne will come back. Maybe I'm wrong & I should just end it when I was originally supposed to.

Anyways - I made a "timeline" of my acne before & after Accutane (I know it's not "after" yet - but things have improved so much!). It goes from before I started Tane all the way until today (the very last photo).

PreTane.jpg

I am VERY thankful that I had the chance to take Accutane again. No regrets & I'm very satisfied with the results.

Day 142

I met with my dermatologist this afternoon. I told her about the under the skin bumps that turned into pimples last month, and she asked me if I wanted to do another month. I said yes. She said that she recommends people do six months if they are still breaking out at the end of their course. So, I guess she really wasn't thinking about my cumulative dose, which I will be way over by the end of next month. I was kind of excited at the thought of being done at the end of this month, but I'm more scared of having my acne come back again. So, I can stick it out for one more month.

I spoke with my dermatologist about my toe (the one that I had surgery on for the ingrown toenail). Yeah, I haven't mentioned anything in here about this...but it's not doing so good. This god damn wound will not friggin' heal. It looked awful today...just like a blood blister. It did scab up...but then the scab fell off after I soaked it and slightly rubbed it. But my derm told me that it's probably not healing right because of the Accutane. I don't know if I should temporarily stop Accutane for a little bit, or what... My derm did advise me to get back to the podiatrist, and told me that once I get off Accutane it will heal. I don't know if it's infected again. I don't know what the heck to do.

I'm pretty damn happy with the condition that my face is in. I did notice a small little bump on my left side of my jawline, but I'm not too bothered by it.

Oh, also - I asked my derm about my cholesterol. I was just curious. She told me it is high, but nothing to worry about, and that it will come down after I stop tane. It went from 197 when I started to 246 I think she said. Yikes.

Hey tane twin! I saw my dermatologist today too! Seems like this is the week most of our group of tane loggers see our derms. Mine decided that another month would be good for me to because my under the skin bumps on my right cheek. She said I can even do another month after that if I wanted to. I'm not sure where I stand on that yet but I am for sure doing another month. If I do what she recommended I would be doing 7 months of tane instead of the 6 we planned on. So I would end my course in October instead. I guess I will see where I am at this time next month and make a decision on that then. I'm glad to know I have the choice to do another month though.

I'm interested to see how my blood results come back tomorrow too, since last month my cholesterol went up too. She didn't mention it to me today though so she must not be too worried about it. Which is good. I know she would just out me on meds to lower it, because we talked about it in the beginning of my course in case it happened. I would rather not be popping anymore pills at this point though. Everytime I load up my old lady weekly med dispenser I think holy shit I take a lot of stuff. Although half of it is supplements due to the accutane. Once I stop taking tane I will be able to stop 7 pills hahaha. Gross. I going to go pick up a probiotic tomorrow too so I'll be adding another one.

Anyways I'm glad that you are able to do another month. Are you going to be able to get it filled before your insurance coverage runs out? I hope so. Funny you say your little bump isn't bothering you. I swear I check my clogged pores 10 times a day to see if they are going to do anything. Nothing changes though. If they turn into anything though I am going to be heartbroken!

Have you been soaking your foot at all? You should use epsom salt if you have any. Also my podiatrist told me to soak my foot in water and dreft. Dreft is a baby laundry detergent in case you didn't know lol. I just happened to have some from when my daughter was little and it helped a lot. I'm not sure why but it did. Also that little blood blister type thing you have, I've had those before and it needs to be drained or cut off. Mine always cuts them off and holy shit it hurts if your not numb. I'd get it and see yours, stop more pain from happening. Hang in there! I know first hand how much they suck!

Hey tane twin! 🙂 It's funny how we all have our appointments within the same week. Seven months is a long course, and eight! Sheesh. But that's good that your derm is allowing you to do whatever it takes. I'm glad mine is the same way. Even though I am pretty much clear, those clogged pores that sprouted into yucky zits last month freaked me out. I hope another month will do the trick.

Haha, seven pills a day is a lot! I should probably have taken supplements throughout my course, but I haven't. Woops. I used to take probiotics every day, and then I stopped for some reason. I hope your clogged pores don't turn into anything. Crossing my fingers for you!

Luckily I will be able to get my 6th month supply before my insurance runs out, thank god. I'm kind of confused though, because my derm told me that she definitely wants to see me next month and I told her how I won't have insurance, and she said "I'll take care of you" or something like that...so I'm not sure how that's going to work. I definitely don't need any high medical bills!

I have been soaking my foot every day when I take a bath. I don't know if that's good for it or not. Sometimes I put epsom salt in it, sometimes I don't. I'll have to see where I can get some Dreft, because I'm pretty desperate, haha. The podiatrist told me it would look "normal" three weeks after I had the surgery, and that was the beginning of July. It's now mid-August and it's still all icky. It's weird, because yesterday it looked like a blood blister, but that somehow turned into a scab. I guess that's a good sign. I'm not going to mess with it anymore, I don't even want to touch it, because I feel like I'm messing up the healing process. I don't think it's infected though, it just will not heal.

Ahh your skin looks great! I'm so happy for you! I love seeing this work for all you girls how we all started around the sorta same time :) I'm on my 5th month and finally have been seeing improvement, just mostly dealing with tiny bumps and lots of red marks now. Sorry about the toe issues though :/

You can get dreft anywhere like target, Walmart, cvs, Walgreens. It is so expensive though, you need the liquid not the powder. I'm sure the tane has something to do with why it isn't healing correctly. I disconnected my achillies tendon the end of feb and started my course on mid march and it took that thing forever to heal. Like until the end of April. I'm not sure how much normal healing time is for that but I felt like 2 whole months was a long time to be in crutches and a boot cast. Maybe it wasn't though.

I wonder what she did mean by I'll take care of you... My luck I would get a 300 dollar bill from the derm office and a 300 dollar bill from the people who process the blood draw. Will you be able to get insurance through your mom or dad sone you are a full time student again?

Thank you so much! 😀

It's crazy how we all started around the same time and are finally getting the real results that we have waited for! I have some red marks too, don't worry they will fade. 🙂

I plan on going to Walgreens for school supplies, so I will have to pick some up. I did some research and you're not supposed to have any kind of surgery while on tane just because of how slow your skin heals, I guess. I'm on the fence about whether or not I want to make another podiatrist appointment. My dad and sister told me to stop worrying and that it will just get better. I sure do hope so... Damn, two months in a cast & crutches. That's a long time!

I was confused when she said that. I'm kinda iffy about whether it's worth it to go to that appointment...I'll be done Accutane anyway. I definitely do not have the money for an office visit without insurance. My mom is going to put me on her insurance when open enrollment comes around, since I'm going to be a full-time student. I'm terrified to be without insurance.
