Looking good, Katie! I can see an improvement for sure!
BTW- your sister is RAUNCHY for wearing your underwear!! I can't understand how people think that's acceptable to do?!
^I agree, the devil created acne for sure! Along with mosquitos and those awful see-through neon ponchos
) Just had to throw that in there, good luck ladies, I am planning to begin a low-dose accutane soon so am reading your logs so I know what to expect and wishing you all success.
Aw, there's way worse than neon ponchos.... men's jorts for example. High waisted jeans. Ladies' shoulder pads in the 80s. 80s fashion in general, actually. Mullets. Corn-yellow teeth. You get my point
I hateee mosquitos! For some reason, I always get bit in the middle of my forehead by one EVERY time they come out
my luck. I haven't seen any june bugs thank the lord, do you guys have those?
How's everyones jaws doing? Haha it seems like that's where Accutane loves to be a bitch ;(.
My two whiteheads have scabbed off and surprisinginly fell off with no red mark
BUT.. don't applaud just yet. Two new ones appeared right below where the other two were.. COOL.
I'm so over my acne lol, I'm not even surprised when I break out anymore. I would tell you the good news about my face but I'm scared the Acne.Org Gods will attack me and tomorrow morning i'll have jinxed myself..
I hope everyone is having a wonderful day! My boyfriend and I are taking the ACT Saturday morning so we're both going to the library to be a nerdy couple and study for it. He bought this like.. 30$ Guide for the ACT so we're going to kill our brains with it. I get til 3pm though to relax because he always works mornings in the summa.
What were your guys scores?
I get paid this Friday and neeeeed a few tank tops this summer.. what do you guys like to wear in summer? Is that a dumb question? Haha I'm just trying to focus the convo on less acne for a little bit so we all can get a mental break!
HAPPY WEDNESDAY!
Ugh! Mosquitos LOVE me. I don't know what it is. I could be outside for five minutes and seriously get 10 bites. Do they bite anyone else around me? Nope.
I hate getting them on my face. So annoying!
Hope those pesky new zits go away soon!
And I already said this in Betsy's log, but good luck with your test! I don't think I ever took the ACT??? I remember other people taking it, but I'm pretty sure I didn't.
I wear lots of dresses in the summertime!
Mosquitos love me too!!! The past 3 years I have gone with the same group of people to go watch fireworks on the 4th of July and my daughter and I are the only one's who leave with like 15 bites. I hate it. I saw these bands you can put around your wrist that give off a scent that they hate and you can't smell it. They look like those rubber band that everyone hands out of causes ya know. I am seriously thinking about investing in them. Mosquito bites are the worse. Horse fly bites are terrible too. Also I got bit by sand flies in FL those bites stuck around for forever. Like I still have marks where they bit me from over a month ago.
Taylor during the first month or 2 of my course I got whiteheads in the same spot all the time. Right when one would go away another one would seriously pop up right on top of it. Hopefully yours go away soon! Icky whiteheads.
I wonder if I didn't take a ACT test either Rachel... That might be why I don't remember my score. I also remember other people taking it. Odd
I just bought a bunch of new tee shirts out of that really light cotton fabric for the summer. I am in love. The fabric feels so nice! I got a few new tank tops too. I used to wear sun dresses all the time when I was your age Taylor. For some reason I stopped, I should get some new ones!! Im a capri or shorts person though. Also I wear sweatshirts all the time. I am such a freeze baby. It could be 80 outside and I will wear shorts and a sweatshirt. Weird I know, I've done it since I was a kid though. I love being warm.
Welcome back! I'm glad you got it all figured out, I can imagine how frustrating that must be to think you lost all the stuff related to your profile!
And ugh, mosquitoes are the bane of my existence! My mom and I get bitten as soon as we're outside and it's awful. I'm particularly allergic, so their bites swell up to penny sized in the matter of a few minutes. Does this happen to you guys too?
I loooove dresses for summertime! Taylor, you'd look really good in them! They don't even have to be expensive, just go check out Forever21 and similar stores... super cute and affordable
The ACT is more prevalent in the middle states whereas the SATs are usually taken everywhere else. Colleges accept both scores, though. Rachel, I got a 1300 too! My SAT only had verbal and math and was out of 1600 total, and I scored in the 90th percentile and felt pretty badass for a public school kid in a medicore high school
I know they added a new writing section a few years later though, and now it's out of 2400. Did you take it with the writing section too?
Stacey- it's awesome your daughter is a good test taker. I'm that way, too, and I think I saved my parents a lot of stress, haha
A ton of my friends shelled out thousands of dollars for test prep classes by Kaplan and whatnot, and they ended up getting like 1050 (back when the SAT was 1600 total... not sure what it'd be with the new writing part factored in), which isn't good at all if you wanted to get into even a decent state school...
I will tell you right now, you totally saved your parents a lot of stress!! Both my kids are good test takers and it has saved me loads of stress and being a parent is stressful enough as it is. 🙂 You're right that it is 2400 now with the writing but when you submit your scores the colleges still look at it as the reading and math total-I guess they think of the writing as bonus points or something but my daughter did well on the writing too so she was good to go. Now I just have to get my son through all of that, haha. So far he's done really well on all the state testing so I'm taking that as a sign. I feel bad for the kids who have trouble testing. Some kids can kick ass in school and then fall apart on important tests and that sucks.
I hope your skin is doing well, Lily! 🙂
Day 73
Happy Friday, everyone! I am so glad that the weekend is here. I dont have any plans, but I really want to sleep in this weekend. Thats always exciting.
So, I dont know whether or not I should just take one pill today or take my usual two. I dont think Im going to run out, so Im kind of stuck on what to do. Maybe Ill only take one.
Whats going on with my face? Not much different
Jawline It has definitely been itchy, and Im hoping that means that it is starting to heal.
A whitehead sprouted up last night. The cystic pimple from weeks ago was kind of scabby last night. There is an annoying whitehead right above that, which hasnt come to a head yet.
Chin Pretty much clear.
Cheeks My left cheek is clear. My right cheek however, different story. The whitehead from last week is still healing, and the red mark is still there. The two whiteheads right next to each other are still there. One of them scabbed and is starting to heal, and the other hasnt even came to a head yet. It looks exactly like the one from last week. Ugh, I hate cheek zits. (I hate any zit) Theyre so ugly.
Forehead Everything has pretty much healed up. I have a couple spots that get really dry and flaky, and I picked one last night, which left a raw looking mark. Woops.
No side effects right now, thankfully. I did scratch my hand yesterday, and the top layer of skin kind of just came right off. Crazy how sensitive our skin is on this.
Hi Katie! I was out and about most of the day yesterday so I am just now catching up on your log. I think your face is looking really good plus you're just naturally adorable with or without the acne. You have great eyes and great eyebrows! I hate my eyebrows so I'm always checking out other people's, haha. Anyway, you're a very pretty girl.
I think your pill situation is not that big of a deal, you should be fine. I'm thinking if you have enough pills you should just get back on track, I don't think that extra pill should break out or anything since your body is already used to the medicine and usually doesn't a dose increase take awhile to kick in anyway? Good luck!
I have to weigh in on the sister thing because ironically enough I am currently in an argument with my sister. We are 18 months apart but remember my age range, she's 46 and I'm 48, I mean shouldn't we be past this crap? She's constantly mad at me because our sons don't get together enough in her eyes. We live about 40 minutes from each other so it's no easy feat to get them together all the time not to mention my son is on a sports team which takes lots of his time. But here's the best part. Her son is almost 17!! I mean once you're that age aren't you making your own social plans?? Sheesh, let the boy grow up for crying out loud and quit making "playdates" for him. It's ridiculous. And my poor mom, my sister is always trying to get her involved and get her to take my sister's side - so juvenile!! And my mom gets upset that we're fighting-she shouldn't even know we're arguing.
Okay, got that off my chest and now I feel better. Hahaha. I hope your skin keeps getting better and better Katie!
I hope the extra pill doesn't make you break out, Katie! I really think you'll be fine though. A pill container would definitely be a good idea to help you keep track of your pills! I bought a pretty nifty set of pill containers a while back. There's an individual container for each day and they have separate AM and PM sides. (Plus, each container is a different color! Lol.) Like you, my derm told me to take both pills at separate times. I think I read that's actually better than taking them both at the same time?
We're opposites with our cheeks! My right cheek is clear, whereas my left cheek has two zits and all those tiny bumps. Weird. Cheek zits are the worst though. I feel like they're much more noticeable than zits anywhere else.
It sounds like things are clearing up for the most part, which is great! I still think that itching is a good sign!
Hey Stacey! Aww thank you so much! I wish my eyebrows would grow in a bit thicker, but I usually use a pencil to make them look darker and a bit thicker. But thank you!
You're probably right about that, I don't think that one extra pill is going to completely throw my acne out of whack and break me out. I'm going to take my second pill today and just forget I was stupid and took three yesterday, hahaha.
Wow, that sister story is pretty whacky! She definitely shouldn't be making playdates for her son, and getting your mother involved. I think that some people just enjoy making big deals out of simple things. I hate fighting with my sister, or arguing in general really!
Thanks again!

I hope it doesn't! Apparently I took three a day twice in the past month. I'm going to see if Walgreens or CVS has pill dispensers. I'm so forgetful, it's crazy. I think taking them separately is better than taking them at the same time, although I'm not sure exactly why. I know it's easier on my stomach. I remember I took two at the same time and my stomach was in pain.
Cheek zits are just awful. I caught my reflection in a glass door yesterday and the zits stuck out. Awful, I hate that. Hopefully our cheeks (& everything else!) clear up!
I'm not sure why it's better either. I read it somewhere, but I can't find it now. And stomach pain? Yikes! Definitely wouldn't want to take two at a time if it caused stomach pain! Maybe you didn't eat enough fat when you took them?
Damn cheeks! I swear those zits just stand out way more than others.

I tried looking on google, but couldn't find anything! I probably should start eating something in the morning with my dosage. The reason why I was taking them both at the same time was because I felt like they would absorb into my bloodstream faster after eating dinner. I don't eat breakfast during the week, I only sometimes have coffee. Hmm...I wonder if me taking my morning dose on an empty stomach is effecting my treatment? I think the stomach pain may have been from the meal I ate that night, but I'm not sure. I took both pills together for all three months of my last course, and never had a problem.
They really do stand out. They need to friggin' go away ASAP!!!
You just want to make sure you eat or drink something with some fat when you take your pill. I didn't eat breakfast before I started Accutane, but I eat something in the morning now just so I can take my pill. I'm really not a milk fan, but I drink a glass of milk in the morning and eat a slice or two of whole-wheat bread with peanut butter.
Don't worry though! I don't think you've messed up your treatment. A fatty meal just helps your body to better absorb the drug. My derm actually never even told me any of this... The only reason I know is because of all of my research on here and other sites. He just told me to drink some milk with my morning pill.
Wow, that's nuts that your derm didn't tell you to eat a meal with Accutane! I was taking it with my morning coffee, but this past week I haven't even been drinking coffee, so I feel like I should just take them both at the same time. Either that, or start eating a breakfast with my pill every day.
Yeah, he just told me to drink some whole milk in the morning. I guess that's fine, but I prefer to take the pill with a little more fat than that. He's a bit... Odd.
Definitely eat something in the morning with your pill or take them both at dinnertime. Whenever you can eat or drink something fatty is good!
My dermatologist never told me to make sure I eat a fatty meal with the pills either. On the other hand she has told me on three different occasions that I should take them at the same time. Because the accutane is stored in your fat its impossible for it to leave your system in 12 hours so splitting them up in a day is pointless according to my derm. I wonder why is it that yours would say to split them and mine would say to take them at the same time? I have seen on a lot of other logs that most people are taking them at the same time. So much easier that way anyways, I would never remember to take my second pill. The pharmacy did tell me to make sure that I take the pills with food or at least to make sure it's not on a empty stomach. I am like Rachel I figured out the rest from this website and doing research on my own.

It makes me glad I researched this drug a whole lot before I started taking it... My derm definitely didn't say much about it. Everything I have read online says to take the pills with a fatty meal though, since that increases absorption.
The recommended dosage range for Accutane is 0.5 to 1.0 mg/kg/day given in two divided doses with food for 15 to 20 weeks.
Failure to take Accutane with food will significantly decrease absorption.
Interesting how different derms instruct different things. I honestly dont think it matters whether you take them all at once, or separately either. Youre right the drug builds up in your system. Im definitely going to start taking them with my dinner. I feel like that would be much better for absorption. And hey, I did that way last time and it worked better than it is now, sohm. Im stupid for taking them on an empty stomach in the morning. Its sad that getting up at 6am makes me too lazy to eat breakfast & all I can think about is coffee, hahaha.
I honestly dont think that my dermatologist knows THAT much about Accutane, and its almost as though us patients know more just from browsing the forums and asking each other. She told me before I went on Accutane and was trying various topical and Solodyn that After youre on Accutane, and you break out again, what didnt work prior to Accutane may work. It sounded believable, but I knew when my acne started flaring in late 2011 that it was only going to get worse, and it did, even after trying topical and an antibiotic.
I don't think it matters if you take them at separate times or together either. I think it's just "recommended." No idea why. Maybe you'd have to eat more fat in order to absorb two pills as opposed to one?
My derm doesn't seem to know much about Accutane either. That or he just doesn't say anything. Who knows. That's why I think it's so important for us to do our own research and learn as much as we can.
I am thinking maybe I will take my pills with dinner too. I take them both in the morning and I wonder if I am not absorbing as much of it as I would if I took it with my fattiest meal of the day. Which of course would be dinner. I was thinking that a piece of toast with peanut butter would be good enough. I think I am honestly eating less and less if anything at all in the morning. I always eat a pretty good dinner though so that might be my best bet. Hopefully I can remember that. I already took mine for the day so tomorrow I will start doing that. Wouldn't it be crazy if all of a sudden I clear up? It would suck to know that because I wasn't taking it with the right amount of food I was slowing my own progress. I also wonder if it makes that much of a difference at all, I mean if our derms aren't finding it important enough to tell us then can it really make that much of a difference? I know that if I were a derm and results were going to vary with the amount of fat you are consuming with the pills I would surely find it important enough to bring up in the initial appointment. I might bring this up to my derm on Thursday..
I don't know why none of our derms mentioned this. I didn't read any of the papers that came with my Claravis prescription, so I don't know if there's anything in there about taking the pills with a fatty meal. However, if you Google it you can find a lot of information about this. All my Googling is the only reason I even know!
I'm with you on the breakfast thing Katie, I'm never hungry in the morning. I usually just have tea but my derm told me to take one pill in the morning with food and one at night with food. I've been taking the morning one with some sort of protein bar and sometimes a scoop of peanut butter for the fat. I'm getting a little sick of peanut butter that is for sure! You should definitely be able to find a pill box/dispenser at CVS or Walgreens. I actually found one for my daughter once at Target.

That's exactly what I've been worrying about for the past day! I'm worried that my taking one in the morning with NO food has been screwing with my progress on 'tane. I'm sure it really isn't, but if taking the medication with no food significantly impacts the drugs absorption, then damn, I'm definitely switching to taking them both with my dinner from now on. I know that my first dermatologist (WHO WAS AMAZING) who prescribed me Accutane made sure to mention to me to eat it with a fatty meal. I don't remember if my dermatologist now said anything, I'm sure she did, but since it's my second time I already knew haha. But I wonder if it makes that much of a difference?
And thank god for Google. So much stuff I find out through lovely google.

I can't remember the last time that I ate breakfast in the morning. I think it was over a year ago; I would have a bowl of cereal. With my commute to work right now, I have to wake up at 6am and the LAST thing I think about is eating something. That's bad, I know. To save myself frustration, I'm just going to start taking my pills with my dinner. Not only will that be easier, but I think that it may be easier on my liver since I was taking my first pill of the day with no food. Silly me, haha.
Day 74
Holyyyy crap, you guys! I woke up this morning, and my jawline IS healing. I guess all that itchiness really meant that my jawline is healing up. The zits are flattening, it's amazing. There are still red marks, but it appears as though the zits are finally starting to go away. That makes me so happy. Cheek zit from last week is flattening even more. The whitehead below that one is on it's way to healing. It's not as big as it was, so that's a good sign.
Maybe Accutane is finally starting to kick in?! Or maybe it's because I took an extra pill yesterday. (Hahah, jk.) But this is pretty awesome.
The only pimple that is bugging me is the one that surfaced within the past three days or so, on the right side of my jaw. That one has yet to come to a head. But it's whatever, with the progress that I see right now I'm pretty damn stoked. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that things keep moving in a positive direction. I am in the miracle month, after all...keep it up, Accutane!
So, I think I am going to go relax by the pool for a little while with my mom and sister. I am going to cover EVERY SINGLE inch of my body with SPF 30 because that did the trick last time. Seriously though, you guys, the sun + Accutane = NO BUENO. I don't know if I ever told anyone about my awful sunburn that I had on my previous round of 'tane. I was in the sun for maybe an hour at the most, on the beach. I did put on SPF 50, but I missed certain spots on my legs and whatnot. WORST BURN OF MY LIFE. I'm not even kidding. I could barely walk, I wanted to cry. I woke up the next morning (we were at a motel) and was dry-heaving in the bathroom, I felt so sick. Then I got up and was standing by the sink in the motel and I said that I didn't feel good...and then I fainted, I fell right on my face. I never fainted in my life, so that was so scary. Never again do I want that to happen. Sunscreen is my friend.
UPDATE UPDATE WHO WANTS AN UPDATE.
Hey everyone
So... Betsy I know will yell at me, but lets just say I got some sun alright. I did put block on my cheeks, which is the only area I get burned, and I still got a light pink tint on them. The rest of my face is tan and red at the same time.. The good news is, is that yesterday when I went to the lake, I came home and my body was red. I mean RED RED. I woke up and it turned into a tan that makes me look crazy mexican Yayyy. My face is pretty pink though hehe......... It will go away which is good. I do have two whiteheads that popped up on my temple, weird! Those hurt the worst in my opinion. I also have two TINY whiteheads that are in a row on my right cheek, but they're kind of close to the hairline, so unless you're looking at me from the side, you can't see them which is always a plus. I do have an active RIGHT near my mouth, it's so weird, I've never had one there. It is true when people say they break out in places really weird while on Accutane. All together, I have about 5 actives, which is kinda bleh, but they're very small so I am thankful. I always want to sulk when I get a pimple, but then I make myself think about those who have terrible cystic acne, and live everyday positive, so it makes me realize how little I have to feel bad about, but there are days where I just want to cry over it haha.. us girls
. I'm pretty happy though! The two whiteheads I had near my jaw got so dry that they just shriveled up, left two scabs, and now a couple days later the scabs are gone! Yay! MY FOREHEAD IS CLEAR! COMPLETELY. Que bueno
I don't care if I get jinxed about that, I'm enjoying it now.
Wow that was a rant. I don't really feel like posting on my log anymore, cause I always post on yours or Betsy's if thats okie . I feel really tired and waterlogged from yesterday, or however you spell it, plus I'm pretty weak from being dehydrated from all the sun, sooo I'm currently relaxing in my bed, with Friends on! O M G YOU GUYS. You have to go to Bath & Body Works if you have one near you and get the candle: Summer Boardwalk. FUNNY STORY TIME!
My friend and I went to the mall two days ago, and as we were leaving, we smelled something really good, and stopped dead in our tracks to hunt it down. I ended up sniffing my way into Bath & Body Works. I went up to the lady and said "WHAT IS THAT SMELL!?!" And she was like.. "uhm.. what smell? I'm sorry I'm so used to all the scents I can hardly tell the difference, what's it smell like to you" and I got so sad cause I couldn't describe it! But then she brought over a candle that they had lit all around the store, and THAT WAS THE ONE! YAY! I'm veryyyyyy cheap and don't like spending 20$ on candles.. so I got the mini one for 5$, I was so happy I got it though. They're having their semi-annual sale on Wednesday, so I'm going that Friday when I get paid to pick out the same candle except a bigger size Taylor's very happy.

Hey Taylor! Of course I don't mind you updating on my log. 🙂
I'm glad you used sunblock! Sunburns suck, but it seems like you took care of yourself well enough to not be in pain at least, right? And I swear that Accutane makes us break out in places we never broke out before, which is so strange. I never expected to have jawline acne like this after taking Accutane! And being waterlogged sucks. Be sure to drink tons of water to re-hydrate. I can't seem to get enough water lately, it's crazy. I drink like 5 bottles a day now. I love it.
I love candles too! I also love Bath & Body Works, so I may have to go there for their semi-annual sale too to get this candle you're talking about. 🙂
What kind of candles do you like? I love this one I got and I put it up to my boyfriend's nose and he looked like he was gonna gag . He's obsessed with mango smelling candles..
And yes thankfully the sunburn I do have doesn't hurt at all, it's just really pink which is fine with me since everyone right now is walking around red as a lobster. Since I woke up I've drunk 3 glasses of water and a bottle of water, and can't seem to get enough either.. It's weird what sun can make you feel like.
I'm sorry about that jaw acne but I saw that it's all healing which is AWESOME! Today's your day off correct?
I just bought a pretty big Pink Lemonade scented Yankee candle. I love it! It smells amazing. Mmm mango candles!!
Lucky you! That's good you didn't burn that bad. I used to live in the sun when I was younger, I was so tan. I miss being tan. Oh 'tane...and my paleness. Oh well, next summer, right?!
Yes, my jaw acne is finally starting to heal! I'M SO HAPPY!!!
