Woke up dis mornin and the invader's redness went down all thanks to Neosporin SUPER HERO! Hahah. What is a good thing is it's the only one on my left cheek, YAY FOR 1 ACTIVE ONLY, but it's so noticable because it's the only one, does that make sense? Anywho, for some reason when I get whiteheads and such, the whitehead isn't just red but it forms a huge territory of redness around it which makes it look HUGE. I don't get it. But the redness did go down around it which is good cause it's my boyfriend's birthday today and I wanted to curl my hair and such for him. Since I am saving all my money I made him a homemade card with a "love letter" and put that into a pocket of the card I made. And then I bought all the ingredients to make homemade molasses cookies! They're his favorite and he'll never expect I made them from scratch cause I've seriously never cooked a day in my life. I wish I knew how, but I never have had the time to really learn, so my puppa is helping me smile.png Woohoo!

You are seriously the cutest thing ever. 🙂

Day 63

Day 3 on 80mg.

Acne

  • Cheeks: Random pimple is surfacing on my right cheek. Strange¦ The ones from weeks ago have pretty much completely faded away.
  • Forehead: Pimples from weeks ago are finally starting to really heal and fade away. No new actives. Feeling pretty good about my forehead.
  • Chin area: Meh. Two whiteheads that are still pushing gunk up from last week.
  • Jawline area: This is where it™s all at. I still don™t get it. It doesn™t look good. The massive cystic zit that has been on my face for several weeks now has decreased in size, but it™s still there.

I really hope that this month can help turn things around for me. I am seeing improvement, but it™s slow, and sometimes I get scared that ˜tane won™t work for me.

Side effects

  • Dryness: My skin is noticeably drier than it was on 60mg. I went to the bathroom in work and parts look flakey. I™m really lookin™ attractive today, oh yeah.
  • Sunburn: My chest is still burnt. Everywhere else on my body is fine. I™m such an idiot for forgetting my chest! It feels better today though¦yesterday it was itchy and irritated.
  • Lips: Chapped, chapped chapped. Constantly applying Clinique Superbalm, Burt™s Bees, as well as Aquaphor. I don™t use Aquaphor when I™m out of the house because of how goopy it is, but I™ll use it when I™m home. The corners of my mouth were cracking yesterday, which kind of freaked me out.

I™m so close to being halfway done, which is awesome. I™m ready for clear skin. Hopefully I can get there...

Hi Katie, it's Stacey - I think it sounds like you're doing good but I know it's so hard. Today is day 29 for me and this morning I was feeling very discouraged with all the red marks and bumps on my chin - nothing currently active which I guess is progress but I feel like the 9 or 10 marks of vaious sizes and shapes on my chin and jaw will be there forever - so frustrating that it all moves so slow. But seeing you and others make some progress in encouraging!

I know what you mean thinking sometimes it's not going to work for you, I feel the same way but we just have to believe it is! It works more times that it doesn't so hang in there pretty girl! 🙂 Keep on top of those lip cracks and they shouldn't get any worse. Man, the constant maintenance is so annoying, right??

The corners of my mouth are cracking, too! Seriously freaky...and wondering why it only took 14 days to happen to me, not even on 80 mg/day. Wtf?

Of course you will! don't worry it'll work for you, if you're seeing action then its working. Hooray!!

I've definitely seen improvement. Everything has pretty much migrated to my jaw now!

Hey Stacey! I am doing good. I believe I am making progress. My face is looking clearer. My jawline looks crazy! I'm hoping it goes through it's ugliness now so it can heal up soon. Day 29 and only some marks? That is great! I have some marks leftover from old zits. I know they'll fade away soon! It is frustrating that things seem to move slow on this medication. Patience is something that isn't always easy to have when you want results!

You're right. Accutane is a great medication, and I believe that we'll see results by the end of our courses (as hard as that may be to believe sometimes). I really, really hope I can look back on my log at the end of this and breathe in a sigh of relief. I want that more than anything. We all deserve that! Lip cracks are a real pain though. I feel like I use 10 gallons of lip stuff each day, hahaha. I don't know where I'd be without my favorite lip treatments!

Accutane - a love/hate relationship! Crazy, crazy medicine that's two steps forward and one step back sometimes but it's all about the end result, right ladies?? (And gents too, of course). 🙂

My lips are like lizard lips. I have exfoliated them 2 times today and let me tell you they need it again! So gross. I just came home from doing some shopping and walked into the bathroom to wash ,y makeup off and all that jazz and holy crap they looked bad. It's hard not to pick at them when they are flaking away. I find myself screwing with them while I drive or when I sit watching a movie or something. I got to stop that, I can't Imagaine that helps the situation at all lol.

How does one 'exfoliate' their lips besides taking a fingernail to them? Haha cause that's how I do it! Share your secrettttt!

Hi Elizabeth, I'm Stacey. Welcome to the Accutane family! I don't have a log, I'm waiting til the end and plan on posting my experience on the Positive Experiences page because those stories helped me so much. My history is the same as everyone else's, had acne on and off since I was a teenager but it became cystic in my 30s when I went off the pill. I'm 48 now (48!) and I've had enough! I have a great derm and on April 30th I took my first pill. I'm on 40mg a day to start. My acne is usually cystic and nodular in general and mostly on my chin and jaw although it doesn't discriminate - I'm pretty sure every pore on my face has been effected at one time or another. 🙂

Good luck with your journey and keep up with these logs - they are really helpful and these girls (and a few guys :)) have been so supportive and helpful. My wish for everyone starting Accutane is always that they skip the IB or have a mild one. 🙂

It's certainly a love/hate relationship! So many ups & downs come with this medication. But it is all about the end result!

Mine are too! I sit in work and I bite them. I probably look like such an idiot, but I can't help it. I'm always messing with them too. It's hard not to. I'm going to need a new tube of Aquaphor soon. I loaded it on last night before I went to sleep.

How does one 'exfoliate' their lips besides taking a fingernail to them? Haha cause that's how I do it! Share your secrettttt!

That's a great question! I usually just take a fingernail to them as well. Maybe there is some secret to 'tane lip exfoliation? eusa_think.gif

Hey Elizabeth!! Welcome to the Accutane forum! I'm glad that our blogs could help you before you start Accutane! Don't be nervous, you're making a good decision! Most people only experience minimal side effects such as chapped lips and dry skin. The good thing about it is that you can go days without having to wash your hair. Just remember that it takes time and patience to get results, and that your acne may get worse before it starts to get better! That's one thing I didn't take into consideration before taking Accutane again. But just remember that it will get better. We are all here for support and you can ask us anything if you have any questions! surprised.gif

Day 64

I'm ridiculously thirsty. I've drank a bottle of water in the past hour since I've been at work. My mouth tastes like a sock.

One thing I didn't mention is that Sunday night I started experiencing UTI symptoms. I had antibiotics leftover from when I had a UTI earlier this year, so I took one. My symptoms are better; however, my urine is bright yellow. I'm guessing it's the antibiotic doing that...should I be worried?

This cheek pimple is getting bigger and it's sore. neutral.gif ....Just when I thought my cheeks were looking perfect....

I've also noticed that I'm still experiencing some loss of appetite as well.

I take a wet wash cloth and let it sit on my lips for a couple of minutes then I run the moist dead crap off. That way I am not tearing away at them and it only takes the already dead skin. Works well for me!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!! Just picked my accutane up from walgreens!! I am already laughing about the packaging they have these pills in. I am a nurse so have seen a lot of crazy drug packaging but nothing this extreme!!!

I am going to eat some lunch and take the first pill. Wish me luck!! I really appreciate you girls being here and glad we can support each other! I think my mom and husband are glad too because I have complained to them and stressed out so much about acne and accutane...it is great to have another outlet to vent!!

I am a 27 year old female, weigh 100lbs or 45 k. First month taking 20mg then depending on how I do derm will bump me up to my dose of 40 mg.

Congrats, nurse Elizabeth!!! 😀 I'm so excited for you, and I'm sure you will be very informed going into this journey. I can totally relate about crying and moaning about acne and accutane. It was more stressful making the decision than actually taking the first pill! If anything, taking this medicine has been completely worth it so far for me...I used to have draining pus and blood on my face every time I washed my face that would then scab over and then repeat. It was HORRIBLE. The side effects have been manageable, and you hopefully shouldn't be too uncomfortable starting out at 20 mg.

Keep us posted!

It's probably the antibiotic or accutane making your pee bright yellow. I would keep drinking lots and lots of water. This sounds weird, but you can even add a tiny pinch of regular salt or sea salt to the water to keep your electrolytes balanced when you're flooding your system with water. Or just drink sugar-free vitamin water. Sometimes our kidneys can get overwhelmed with all the medicines. Maybe you can call your derm to ask since you want to make sure it's not the accutane aggravating the kidneys, right?

I hate that about those random cheek pimples that just get bigger and bigger! I have one and it sort of drained last night. I'm hoping it doesn't refill!

After writing this, I remembered that when I took this antibiotic before it made my urine bright yellow. I'm just glad I'm not experiencing UTI symptoms - they're awful. I'm probably going to take the other antibiotic that I had leftover, and hope that things go back to normal. I'm not thirsty anymore after guzzling 2 bottles of water, so that's good.

This one is freaking me out. I'm sure by Friday it'll be large & puss-filled. *shiver* crazy.gif

I LOVE water lately! 🙂 I was drinking soda there for a while after work, but it started to make my stomach burn. So I've just been drinking a lot of water. I try not to drink too much before bed because I hate waking up to pee!

Ugh, you guys! I'm going to throw a fit. I think I feel a pimple forming on/above my lip.

Please be a false alarm. I can't handle a lip zit. dontgetit.gif

Lip zits suuuckkk! (Wait, that's kind of ironic, isn't it?) Haha I haven't had one in a long time. I used to more often and I think it's cause I would touch that area of my face more. Not sure, though.

I had a painful eyebrow zit a few weeks ago that felt like a dull headache all day long. Accutane zapped it though and it hasn't come back, thank god. I had no idea there were so many nerves on our eyebrows that a pimple there could cause so much pain!!!

Hahahaha!! They are just awful! I had one before I started Accutane in March and it made me miss a St. Patty's Day party because I didn't want to show my face. AWFUL. I felt like I had herpes or something. I'm praying this thing doesn't grow. I just looked in the mirror at work & it has a small white-head. Very tiny. I will go into reclusive anti-social mode if it gets larger. I think I'm experiencing a slight "initial breakout" from the dosage increase, which sucks. I also see some clogged pores on my cheeks, eeeek go away!!!!! crazy.gif (That's my facial expression whenever I see a new zit, hahahaha.)

Eyebrow zits DO suck! Two of the worst places to have zits appear is on the eyebrows or lips. The last time I had a zit on my lip I couldn't do anything about it, even touching it hurt. Oh Accutane...work your damn "magic" asap!

Ahh so out of the loop! Don't worry about the bright yellow pee haha, I have had that and realized I haven't been drinking a lot of water. Even though it's recommended to drink 8 fl oz x 8 glasses of water a day, I think on Accutane you're really supposed to drink that plus more cause our skin is so dehydrated along with the rest of our body. I've been drinking more water and it's helping somewhat.

Hi Katie! I am a UTI expert - I got them for years until I ended up at a Urologist and he's cured me so far - it's a long and ugly story but the point is I wanted to tell you to drink cranberry juice. Real cranberry juice, not cranberry cocktail, it's a little on the tart side by tolerable. It makes it very unhospitable for the bacteria in your bladder and can totally help you feel better. And of course water, water, water. As for the bright pee, I'm definitely thinking it's the antibiotic, they always used to do that to me too.

I'm trying to send evil vibes to your new zit in hopes that will help it go away. I hate the ones that throb and hurt and basically remind you all day that they are there. Go away potential lip zit on Katie!!!!! 🙂

At least the good thing about eyebrow zits is that it's somewhat covered by the eyebrow? Haha I'm going to start marketing big bushy fake eyebrows that you can stick on to hide zits. Won't work for the lip zit though, unless you want to rock a moustache :P

I'm trying to send evil vibes to your new zit in hopes that will help it go away. I hate the ones that throb and hurt and basically remind you all day that they are there. Go away potential lip zit on Katie!!!!! smile.png

Hi Stacey! I should have know that it was the antibiotic causing the darkening of my urine - silly me. I've had so many UTIs in my life. Wow, you must have been getting them a lot to go to a Urologist. Funny thing is I have Cranberry supplements in my medicine cabinet, I just never take them. As soon as I felt the symptoms of getting one, I took two of them as well as the antibiotic. Overkill? Haha. 🙂

Thanks for your evil vibes! It's a small little whitehead, very tiny, but of course still bothersome. I'm hoping that the 3 new pimples I've gotten since starting 80mg will be the last. That may be asking for too much though! We'll see what happens!

At least the good thing about eyebrow zits is that it's somewhat covered by the eyebrow? Haha I'm going to start marketing big bushy fake eyebrows that you can stick on to hide zits. Won't work for the lip zit though, unless you want to rock a moustache tongue.png

That is so true! HAHAHA zit hiding false eyebrows. I would so pick up a pair! Too bad I'm not a guy...us women just have to deal with fugly lip zits when they come out of nowhere! Lame, right? 🙁
