Hey, its Beautiful Disasters (Betsy) My profile locked me out... I can't log on to it anymore. It is claiming my username isn't a username they have on their site... WTF Acne.org. So I will be posting on this name for now on I guess. Unless something gets figured out with the other account. I will still be posting under my original log though.
Day 105:
Wow, it has been quite a while since my last update. I apologize for that - been really busy with finals (which are now done). But only 45 days to go in the course! It's going so quick.
Arakhanna - I haven't been using the eye drops. I probably should be using them, but I'm too afraid they're going to make my eyes reliant on them for moisture. Even though my dermatologist told me that wouldn't be the case, it still worries me. And no problem about the lip balms
Betsy - Hey! I am glad you got your account back! Were you hacked or was it some other issue? Would have sucked if you couldn't get it back.
I haven't started the internship yet, but I start this Monday. I need to go buy some business casual clothes! I have like nothing in that department lol.
How have you and your course been doing?
My updates:
- Still no new acne except that small under-the-skin lump that is still on the corner of my forehead, which could possibly be long-lasting cystic acne. I've never had cystic acne last this long before, though. I will need to remember to ask my dermatologist about it if it's still around by then.
- My facial skin has seemed to be less dry over the past few weeks. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing. I'd say bad thing if it means my facial oils are starting to compensate for the accutane and thus, when I go off, that means they will start overproducing oil. Or maybe it's a good thing for some reason I can't think of...
- Still occasionally battling eczema on the top of my hands, my arms, and a bit on my shoulders. Not a big deal, though.
- Still battling dry eyes. But making a conscious effort to blink more often while at the computer and doing other things and I think that is helping.
- My lips have continued to peel occasionally. But due to the fact that the corners of my mouth are no longer cracking, the lip peeling is not that big of a deal to me anymore. The corner cracking made it SO much worse. But the vaseline solved that thankfully. Speaking of which, I apply the vaseline about once every one or two hours and before I go to bed. I also use the aquaphor still when I am out and about.
Brian
Awesome you have no active acne!! Hopefully I am right behind you! My account wasn't hacked or anything. I was having issues logging in. It was claiming that my username wasn't registered with them also my email wasn't. It was a bunch of BS, got it figured out though
You do need to get out and get some new clothes if you start on Monday. I can honestly say I hate shopping with a purpose. If I am going out and shopping for the hell of it I can enjoy it. Otherwise I swear I can never find anything that I like. I assume being a guy it is a little easier! Good luck for Monday!
Day 124:
Well, I still have 28 pills left, when it should be 26 .. so I must have missed a couple days? Weird.
Anyway, less than a month to go! That's great because the side effects are irritating me more at work than when I was going to school. Probably because I only had to publicly deal with the side effects 3-5 hours a day rather than 9 hours a day.
Work is going quite well. I'm enjoying the people and my project I'm working on.
Here's the update:
- Only acne I've had since the last update was a pimple on the top of my head. Otherwise I've been clear.
- The dryness of the face continues... It's really embarrassing when I eat lunch at work and a layer of skin is dangling from around my mouth area. During school, I had more time in the mornings to apply multiple applications of lotion to prevent that from happening. Now I must check the mirror after lunch.
- Eczema on my hands is also getting kind of worse since I've broken my twice-a-day lotion routine that existed during school. Need to work on a new routine.
- Eyes are horridly bad since, combined with the dryness due to accutane, I'm a computer programmer and thus the staring at the screen only makes the dryness and redness worse.
- Lips are also hard to manage at work sometimes. I sometimes unconsciously pick at them. Bad me.
That is great that you aren't breaking out anymore! I am so happy for you! I totally hear you on the eating and the skin around the mouth area. Same thing happened to me yesterday I yawned and all my skin cracked all around my mouth. So gross!
I hope you are enjoying your new job!!!
Hey again all. How do you guys prevent the dry eyes thing? I'm on the computer as that will be my job field. My eyes are pretty white, but if you aren't careful my left eye can suffer a lot of redness just due to hereditary veins. I don't want to have dry eyes...but I guess it's inevitable, sigh. Any recommendations on drops or remedies?

I use systane gel eye drops they work well! There is no preventing it I don't think, you just need to keep on top of it and maintain it. Not everyone gets the dry eyes though.

I need some advice on that as sometimes I've heard people get permanent dry eyes. I'm TERRIFIED of that. This is such a tough decision now. Ugh I'm really not sure what to do now. It's all just scaring me, my apologies. Do you guys know if it tends to be permanent? It seems like most people get the dry eyes though. I know I'd be vulnerable to that probably.
Well, this is it. The last pill of my 5 month course will be taken today. Man, I'm so worried that the acne will come back with a vengeance
Congratulations!!!! You will do great! Check in and let me know how things are in life after accutane I have another month left Im scared it is going to come back too!
Hey everyone!
I am now 3 months post-accutane. I have remained nearly completely acne-free since, with just the occasional small pimple around the mouth that goes away fairly quickly.
However, I am noticing some lasting effects and changes occurring with my body.
First of all, my eyes are still dry and red most of the time. This started occurring a couple months into accutane and hasn't gone away. It's unfortunate because it looks like I'm high all the time and eye drops don't seem to help much (I try to avoid them so that my eyes don't start getting dependent on them). I'm not sure what to do about this other than hope it goes away some day.... But I have noticed (after searching the internet) that a fair amount of other people also have this problem. I'm pretty pissed that this wasn't even listed as a side effect from Accutane.
Secondly, I still have a bit of a residual problem with dryness of the lips, which I didn't have before Accutane. But it is much better than when I was on Accutane. I don't have to panic if I forget to bring lip moisturizer somewhere.
Thirdly, I can tell oil is starting to return back to my pores. My face is starting to look oilier at the end of the day, like it did before Accutane, but to a lesser extent. I just hope this doesn't mean an eventual return of acne. Also, my scalp has become dry and flaky again. This was something I was able to control very well on Accutane, but now it has reappeared for some reason. I am trying to get it under control with anti-flake shampoos that worked while on Accutane, but it may take some more time. I liked not having to shampoo but once a week while on Accutane and was hoping that would continue after I got off it. However it looks like I may have to continue my life shampooing much more often...
Other than those three items, things are going great. The eczema that I occasionally battled on Accutane hasn't reappeared, which I am EXTREMELY grateful for. Likewise, I have mostly stopped moisturizing my face because it isn't really dry anymore.
I just hope the acne stays away... but I can't help but be pessimistic about it.
Hey Brian! Haven't seen you around these parts in along time! Great to hear from you!!!
So Happy to hear that you are still clear! It will be interesting to see what happens once the oil has full returned. I have been off for 3 days now so of course nothing has changed there for me. I hope that your side effects aren't long term. That would be a huge bummer. Hopefully they are under control soon and everything returns to normal. Normal minus the acne of course.
Are you still doing the internship? Was your summer good?
Talk to you soon!
